You will know once you walk into the dining room and see shelves of card and board games. With that in mind, food was secondary to us. Having a huge collection of board games to enjoy for hours while someone serving you food and drinks was a bonus. The fact that their pizza and caesar salad were all tasty was a plus. But it didn't make sense, because on the very right was a make your own pizza and it said cheese zero dollars and then the rest would be added on top so we got nine toppings it should be about $18 which would equate the same as a pizza on the left side. So we went ahead with 9 toppings and our pizza ended up being $35. Didn't have the energy to chat with them after, so we just took the L and decided that we would never come back here unless we really wanted to play games. The pesto pasta was nice.

I love their rating system, and the staff of course are very knowledgeable with recommendations. We ended up buying a few of the games when we got back home since we didn't have room in our suitcase. Since my fiancé is the DM of our D&D game, he got inspired by the books, minis, and scheduled games that take place at the shop. Such a neat place... We'd definitely be regulars if we moved here but for now, we'll settle on making this home base on our future trips to Vancouver.

This is one of the cleanest and most well-maintained gaming establishments I've seen. Even though Screen Free is a bit more family friendly in terms of their overall products compared to other tabletop gaming stores (they have games and puzzles for all ages, not just for fantasy / sci-fi fans), this shouldn't be a reason for the other places to operate without a basic level of tidiness. I would have no problem busting out my decks here for some pick-up games, unlike some other stores I've been to that were just downright NASTY. Nasty as in, even though my cards are all in deck protectors, I still would not be comfortable laying them out on those other places' stained and sticky tables. Yes, thank goodness for personal gaming mats, but then I still gotta clean the bottom of the mats afterward, ya know? Thankfully, I would not have that problem here... I could share some truly horrific experiences at some of those other establishments, but I'll refrain for now. Staff I interacted with were all very friendly too; none of them gave me the vibe of l33t nerd status, which sometimes runs rampant at similar places. Supplying many of these hobbies have been relegated to a few shelves in big-box craft shops like Michaels and Hobby Lobby in the US. Once I found Imperial Hobbies on Yelp during our vacation and it was near our hotel, I made my plans. I dropped my wife off for her spa day and this was going to be my spa day ;) The store is in a group of buildings almost at the end of the runway of Vancouver Airport (YVR). If you hang around, you'll see tons of airliners approaching for landings and roaring off on take offs. I just couldn't believe the selection of plastic models of planes, armor, cars and trucks along with complete selections of paint and finishing materials. It's these types of stores that I would spend hours in as a boy, but could only stare wide-eyed because I never had much money back then. But now as an adult with a job and disposable income, I probably would have gone broke if I didn't have to pack everything into my luggage to fly home. The favorable CAD$ to USD$ exchange rate also helped a lot in my shopping. I ended up with a couple of scale plastic model kits and a flying model rocket that are rare, out of production kits or very hard to find, even on-line.
