This hidden gem is amazing! The staff was responsive to our early check in request for business reasons on our part. The location is convenient to Austin, Tx. The air conditioning actually cools the room down, so bring a sweater or hoodie if you're a Millennial! The Rockdale Police Department responded to a small public service request and found a solution to our "pickle" ... kudos to Officer ? ... and the dispatcher. We were in town for a family wedding with our young daughter. This hotel not only met but exceeded our expectations. The small courtyard is beautiful the rooms are small but perfect for lodging in! There are benches and seating all over the grounds. Not to mention this is considered the oldest hotel in Texas! The grounds also have a few cats who don't bother anything but give this hotel a home like feel. As far as the staff they are amazing always checking on us and treating us like family. We stayed in a single queen room which was a little on the small, but had such comfortable beds and atmosphere. It was also very clean, and cleaned daily. Local things to do and eateries were very limited, but to sit and read in the courtyard was a wonderful treat. However, we will definitely be back to stay at Rainbow Courts!! read more

Horrible place cockroaches in the room and everywhere. The room Smelled like crap. Very uncomfortable beds. somebody came into my room when I was gone and turned off the TV and rearranged my stuff. The staff yelled at me when I complained. They treat you like crap for no reason. I guess it's a small town and they have nothing better to do but Gina, who is the manager her name should be changed to Karen because she was acting like a Karen for no reason horrible customer service, very rude, and I talked to the owners as well joe and Dan and they were extremely rude as well old grumpy men they should just retire they will get the karma they deserve for treating people like crap. I'll be surprised if their business makes it through. Maybe they should just retire or sell the place to someone who can take care of this property properly. When I called to complain about Everything They told me to leave and that they were going to call the cops on me for literally no reason. When I'm the one who got treated very poorly. that's not how you treat guest. for no reason do not come here the worst hotel in town go to a different hotel. I'm warning y'all beware save your money save your stress. Also, there's no black out curtains in the room so at night it's just a bright light shining in because of the outside light that they have near the buildings. The AC does not stay cold and the TVs are old small and they suck also the carpet smells horrible who has carpet nowadays it just soaks up smells and dirt. After they treated me so horribly. I drove home crying the whole way home. Do not come here. Go to any other hotel in the town. This place is horrible they're sooooo rude. Go to another place where they have better training with Customer Service and everything. They have nothing better to do then to fight with u over complications on their end. Rainbow is a fantastic, historic place to stay while in the Rockdale area. We used 13 different rooms for our wedding. We had the Garden Room as our honeymoon suite and we loved it. Definitely NOT your typical roadside motel! Charming, quiet accommodations, with all the luxuries of home. They offer both single and attached units at various price ranges. We stayed in The Garden Room - single unit. It had an enormous combined living and sleeping area and separate kitchen and bath areas. The outside patio with table and chairs was a bonus! Our parents, who traveled with us, stayed in The Cottage - another single unit. It had separate living and sleeping areas, along with wet bar and bath areas - and charming back patio! This isn't the Ritz; so why the 5 stars?? In these small towns, sprinkled throughout the great state of Texas, this type of place is an anomaly and we very much appreciated the nice touches throughout our rooms. I have been staying at the Rainbow Courts Motel for nearly a decade when we visit family nearby. All in all it was an enjoyable stay and we kept coming back. Before tonight I would agree with everyone else that this was a 5 star place. Tonight has changed my mind forever. Came to the motel after a long night celebrating with family and travel to find that the lock on our door doesn't work properly. A large tear in the comforter and my favorite the giant cockroach in the bathroom while I washed my face and brushed my teeth. Called management since no one is in the office at 9 pm and spoke to a "lovely" gentleman who asked if we are from Texas (we are ... I was born and raised) and that we should just get used to cockroaches because that is the Texas way. Are broken locks and super old linens that are falling apart the Texas way too? As a Texan I've never heard of that before. read more

Last weekend my family gathered in Rockdale for a reunion. Those of us coming from other parts of the country stayed at Rainbow Courts. We spent Friday night on the grounds catching up and enjoying delivered pizza. We all marveled at the wonderful designs of each room. They are tastefully decorated along a basic theme, however each room is its own special place. Saturday we were in and out of our home base. Each time we were greeted by one of the gracious helpful staff. They were knowledgeable, friendly, and very helpful. We enjoyed ourselves and plan to repeat the weekend. This place is anything but 'motel' status. We stayed here for a week prior to our son's wedding in Hempstead. The rooms are tastefully decorated and curated, including many pieces of antique furniture and decorations, the owners, staff and maids are so welcoming and friendly. The grounds are gorgeous and there's several lovely seating areas to take advantage of. My only complaint was the WiFi is not terrific. My 19 yr old still has online classes due to COVID. He was able to access those classes in our room, both video and live, but not able to access it in his room. read more

wow, i totally fell in love with this place! why does it deserve 5 stars? here ya go... -it's in the hill country - it's a 20 min drive to some of THE BEST BBQ, dare i say it, THE WORLD -it's historical, nearly 100 years old -the owners pay attention to detail. the mattresses, bedding, toiletries - amazing -the property itself is down right cute & oozing with charm -the courtyard is BEAUTIFUL, peaceful and relaxing - AND they are very affordable. it's now one of my quick getaway spots when i am short on time, but have to get out of dallas. we really enjoyed our quick stay here. totally recommend! read more

No other place in Rockdale compares! Its a top notch B&B type place (without the breakfast) ...History...it's been here in the same family for more than a hundred years! No need for long descriptive reviews here...if u want the most beautiful, clean, quaint, unique, amazing, well appointed suite/cottage in this country town then book here! It'll give u a run for your money when up against more exclusive towns across the states...extremely fair priced for what u get. Same room, slow season in Ojai (or other pricey small quaint towns) would be $250-350/night minimum. The owner is really amazing, super sweet and genuine, she will cater to your every need. As a side note, she orders top of the line mattresses and linens and in all my (Ahem..) years on this planet, this is without question the most fabulous mattress in a suite, hotel or share that I've experienced! It just feels good to be here. Have you stayed in a place like that. It's not just a place to sleep, but a place to "be." This is how I feel here. I cannot begin to say enough great things about this nostalgic motor court. The grounds are picturesque. The rooms are great. Joan & Dan are great hosts. If you watch old movies you will see motor courts. Staying in this one is a real experience. It's close enough to Austin, Temple, Round Rock, etc. that I stay here, then drive in for meetings. There aren't many of these motor courts around. You have to experience this piece of the past. This was built in 1918. FYI #32 has the most comfortable bed I've slept in. I don't want to leave. I told Joan & Dan that I'd like to be buried here, perhaps under the magnificent Live Oak. They smile & think I'm joking. Wait until the casket shows up. read more

This is one of the worst hotels; The owner, Dan, is a bully...I couldn't believe all of the good reviews for this place, but then again, I've heard of people getting discounts to write 5-star reviews, so who really knows? Since even before moving in, there were problems. I have a serious back condition that requires a lot of icing throughout the day, so I asked if their fridge would be cold enough to freeze ice; A lot of hotels have fridges that do not freeze ice. Dan was extremely rude about my injury & seemed to take his day out on me; I don't understand why...Life's much easier when you're a kind person. So, already, before even moving in, Dan showed that he's not a very hospitable person. I didn't have anywhere else to go because I just moved to the area, so I booked the room. When I moved in, I realized how filthy the carpet was; It was so disgusting that I had use my own vacuum to clean it...I'll be showing pictures of this. Dan said, "This is the cleanest place to stay." My friends from home laughed about that comment after I showed them how much dirt my vacuum picked up. The bedding smelled like strong fragrance, which I'm allergic to, so I couldn't use it & had to wrap myself in a scarf to keep warm at night. The inside of the oven was all scratched up, which is extremely toxic to be eating from, but I was starving...As the night progressed, I realized the windows were so dirty that I had to pry them open w/ all of my strength...Annoying! There were barely any utensils to cook a decent meal, and every pan was scratched up & unusable, so I had to go buy kitchen wares from Walmart because I was starving after eating gas station food for days on the road. I can't even tell you how many bugs I've seen crawling on the carpet in the ONE WEEK I've been here, but I will be posting some pics. I honestly wonder...how does a hotel that charges so much money not have black-out shades? Ridiculous. This area is not good & you will not be able to find an Uber or taxi service, so if you're unable to drive, you'll most likely need to make travel arrangements prior to your stay. There's a loud train that runs through the town during the day and night, so if you're a light sleeper, definitely plan on using earplugs because it's LOUD. There are junkies walking around the neighborhood, so please be careful, people. Tonight is when things got ugly. My neighbor was blasting music to the point where I couldn't even think & I started to have a panic attack; The sound was vibrating the entire room, so I turned my fan on & my volume up to hear my own computer...Then I heard what sounded like him kicking the wall like a toddler, so unfortunately, I had to call Dan...He said he would 'take care of it', but when I got off the phone, the sound was LOUDER...Apparently, me calling Dan struck a nerve w/ Mr. Wall Kicker. Dan decided to walk by my apartment and heard me playing a YouTube video on my cheap $10 COMPUTER SPEAKERS; He told me that my music was too loud, which was ridiculous & infuriating. So, it's okay for the guy next door to blast his music but not for me to watch a video at a reasonable volume? Instead of just telling me to turn down my volume, he said, "You have to leave. You're not going to work out here. You have to check out by tomorrow." What kind of 'man' does this to an injured person who just moved all of their stuff in? I'm still in pain from having to lift all of my luggage & I literally have everything I own here...This owner is HEARTLESS & one of the worst people I've encountered...I'm pretty sure people sue for this type of thing. The whole experience here has been achingly disgusting. No one has ever kicked me out of any apartment or house. Many people don't like themselves and therefore feel the need to hurt others...just to feel more important; That's how I feel about Dan. Look at the other reviews about roaches & bed bugs being here...I saw a roach in the laundry area, which was also FILTHY...I did not even want to wash my clothing in their machines. I spent a good 30 minutes just cleaning up the dirt in the laundry room before doing laundry...YOU'RE WELCOME. I'm still having a major panic attack after dealing w/ Dan's absolute hostility towards me; There's a way to be & there's the dark path, and Dan is obviously not someone who cares much about others. It's good that I took pictures of all of the dirt and bugs because now there's proof that this is not a nice place to stay...Maybe it will save someone from the nightmare I've had to deal with. Anyway, I have to pack up all of my stuff tonight & deal w/ a nightmare trying to find a ride out of this terrible place, and I'm temporarily disabled because of a twisted ankle, so I hope someone's praying for me because this place seems Godless. Please do not stay here; It's not a good place & the people are awful. I'll be posting pics of the bugs and filth soon...Seriously, stay away from this place! read more

My husband and I spent three nights at this wonderful historic motel on Memorial Day Weekend. We were attending my sister's small country wedding and celebrating our own anniversary. We stayed in the very private, free-standing room called The Carriage House. It had almost all the modern amenities of a fancy city hotel but with the quiet charm of a country B&B. Although it is not a full Bed & Breakfast, there were some great little restaurants within five minutes to enjoy delicious country meals. I would highly recommend stopping here for a few nights if you are looking for some comfortable peace and quiet. read more

Small town charm with Texas-sized hospitality. Built in 1918, this motel is rich in Texas history. We had passed by the Rainbow Court dozens of times on our way through Rockdale to east Texas without ever needing overnight accommodations. However, on a recent overnight trip to College Station we discovered every hotel within 50 miles was either booked or was gouging Aggie parents for 4x the normal rates (Parents Weekend). The Rainbow Court showed up in search results and had very positive reviews. Even though it was an hour away from College Station, my wife and I decided to go for it and make the round trip back out to Rockdale for the night. The positive reviews were well-deserved and we were not disappointed. Although the room was small, it are extremely well-maintained, well-furnished, and, most important, clean. I've stayed in 4 and 5 star hotels that were not as clean as our room at the Rainbow Court. When we travel, my wife actually brings a special tote back full of cleaning supplies and wipes to preclean the hotel room (even the nicest hotels) before the rest of the family can even enter and use the facilities. That was not necessary for our room at Rainbow Courts. We complimented owners Dan and Joan on the cleanliness as we were checking out. It turns out that Joan had previous experience in the health care industry and brought the same level of surgical room attention to the Rainbow Court housekeeping policy. Although Hwy 79 and the active Union Pacific Rail is within a stones throw of the office, our room had a dehumidifier and well-maintained AC to create soothing white noise, blocking out any road or rail noise. The mattress was much more comfortable than our high end Simmons at home and I slept more sound than I had in weeks. Even the landscape is well-maintained and planned, something we would not have expected in a "motor court". One of the most dominant features of the Rainbow Court property is a near perfect specimen of a Texas Post Oak which must be well over 150-200 years old judging by its size. Had time permitted, we could have lounged under that tree all day. We look forward to the next opportunity to stay at The Rainbow Courts. read more

Lounging in the yard while the kids run was nice. Very quiet. There were even free muffins at snacks at the coffee machine in the am. The kids also found a pear tree that the owner let us pick from.
