About a month and a half ago, we were visiting family in Cleveland when we noticed our sweet boy…read moreBruce--our precious Shepherd/Retriever mix :) -- was irritated by his ear. He was itching, it was inflamed, as well as warm to the touch. Historically he has been through many ear infections before this due to suffering severe allergies, so we had an idea of what was going on. We go to a holistic approached, integrative vet in Charlotte, NC where we currently live. We gave them a call and got some ideas for holistic treatment for in-home, but were advised to go to the vet locally if it did not improve in about a day. Since I am writing this review, it obviously did not improve with in-home holistic approaches this time. So I researched for vets in Cleveland, and to my absolute joy Shaker Square came up. AND I read it was an integrative medicine vet...yes...PERFECTION!!!!! I was so excited, not to mention it is is only a few blocks down from where our family lives. ALL communication with the staff was seamless, and they made obtaining records and information from Bruce's current vet smooth as can be. They were friendly, efficient, and as concerned about our B-Dog's comfort as we were. So an appoint was easily made. We arrived for our appointment time to a clean environment (with a good smell--you know some vets do not accomplish this) with two ladies welcoming us at the front desk. There is coffee and tea for your enjoyment, and plentiful seating to wait until the appointments start. My pup is pretty comfortable in new environments, but you can tell when he is REALLY at ease, and he was. Just like he is at his home vet. Dr. Kim is amazing!! I have to brag a lot here..... I mean... he makes his own treats for the pups here--both dried and frozen. He is brilliant. Dr. Kim is an honest example of holistic and mindful. He is efficient in his work and deductive reasoning, he communicates his thoughts and treatment plans, and he is patient to answer any and all questions. He gave love and attention to Bruce, and was patient when Bruce though listening to heart tones was play time (he thinks everything is a game, honestly). He swabbed B's ear and ran thorough testing. Indeed, Bruce did have an ear infection, and a fairly severe one at that. Bruce had a lot going on in his ear and we all agreed medicine was the best way to go. Bruce was given an ear cleanser and medication. He used his (again HOMEMADE by his own hands) frozen slurpie to distract Bruce as he showed us the best way to clean and medicate the ear due to B being VERY irritated when someone gets close to his ears. It worked like a charm and he sent the frozen slurpie home with us to use when we treated in-home. I could go on and on, but 100%, come here. Dr. Kim is amazing, the environment is great, and I am SO grateful to have a place to be comfortable going when visiting Cleveland, which we do often. And Bruce 99% of the time travels with us. I trust them here like I trust our home vet, and that says a lot--Bruce is our #1 and we never go anywhere for him without initially vetting thoroughly. So, COME HERE for your vet needs--both traditional and holistic (aka: treatment and preventative)!!!

I lost my best buddy Monday, and their next appt for him was the following Thursday. The decline between them seeing him and his admission to the ER was substantial. I have to suggest you do not bring your animals to them unless you have limitless financial resources. With my experience part of me wishes I could give them 0 stars but I went with one because they were able to accurately diagnose my dog with lymphoma. Their attitude changed however when we told them we were not able to afford treatment and would not take out credit cards for thousands of dollars. They went into a high pressure sales pitch about getting credit cards to pay them, I couldn't realistically get into more debt though and be able to keep afloat, feed myself and my dog, or keep my home. They prescribed a high dose of steroids from the jump which cleared his eyes (one of his biggest symptoms from the cancer) and gave him energy. They said to expect 2ish more months with him. Paying for all the tests and palliative treatment was already expensive and drained any savings I had, they knew this. However when I called a requested a refill on his medication, something that was helping, the vet said they wouldn't prescribe him any more without coming in (paying several hundred dollars to them) and making sure that the eye issues were actually from the cancer and not an unrelated cause. The eye issues were the primary signifier of his cancer, they told us this. They intentionally did not want to help him because we said we could not afford their (mind you many thousands of dollars) of treatment. The lack of any real care for my dogs health in his final months of life was more than disappointing, it was devastating. They had the option to help and chose not to out of in my opinion pure greed and punishment for not going through their recommended treatment. Just know when it matters most they will choose their bottom dollar over your pets comfort in their final days/weeks. I did not bring him back to them to be put down, in my opinion it would be cruel to put him in the hands of people who truly do not care. I especially no not recommend Dr. Film, she doesn't care about you or your baby.

When I first took Romeo to PawsCLE, they were super open and helpful and let me see the layout so I could determine that it would be safe for Romeo to stay there due to his limited sight. I was anxious about leaving him somewhere new, but everyone was so helpful and thoughtful. Fast forward four years, and Romeo can't wait to go to daycare. He learned to climb steps because of PawsCLE, gets excited when he realizes we are driving to daycare, and literally runs toward the staff when I drop him off. They go above and beyond to accommodate his blindness, from tapping on the floor and surroundings to help Romeo orient himself, to giving him a lift up when he doesn't feel quite sure of himself. When Romeo had to have his second eye removed, his schedule got thrown off and going to daycare was the only thing to keep him on schedule and sleeping through the night. We are forever grateful to PawsCLE for helping us keep our sanity and keeping Romeo happy. I feel so safe dropping Romeo at daycare. Dr. Prueter has always been conservative in his management but thorough. Dr. Laskin performed several extractions on 2 of our dogs' teeth and has helped us manage them so they don't have to have any more. One of our dogs is particularly accident prone and Shaker Animal Clinic makes a point of working him in immediately without a considerable wait. We have a cat with chronic asthma that Dr. Prueter has been managing for years. From the front office staff to the assistants to the vets themselves, I have never encountered a rude or unpleasant person employed there myself nor seen another family treated with anything but courtesy, and I am there a lot. In fact, I have always thought they were particularly sweet to all my pets. I am grateful that the antibiotics or pain medicines are available immediately so I don't have to make my sick pet wait while I go get them. We use a different flea and tick medicine than the one for sale at the Clinic and purchase it online with the Clinic's assistance and no hassle. Same for the asthma meds and prescription dog food. As of 2017, the entire staff of the clinic has changed, Drs. Prueter and Larkin are no longer there and the practice has been purchased by Dr. Welsh. The name is now the Shaker Heights Animal Hospital. Although the building is the same, it is a completely different veterinary practice. My first impressions from a couple of visits and telephone calls is that there have been significant changes, but it has been too soon to say if they are for the better or worse.

I came back with another sample after the meds were finished and was told I'd get a culture bc how else can you prescribe the PROPER medication without one?! Her infection was already acute and I was told her results wouldnt come back for 7 days. This is now going on 2w of her having an acute infection that wasn't being treated w the right medication when they could've and should've gotten a culture the first time to see if those meds even worked and now i'm being told it'll be another 7 days of waiting. Then I get a call saying their lab had a power outage and the results would be DELAYED on top of everything. The results come back... again with NO CULTURE saying the infection is cleared when ik its not bc shes still symptomatic.... They told me come back in week with another sample. No. This has been 4w of wasted time and money. I'm now spending more time and money trying to get her PROPER care as she appears to be getting sicker. This clinic is unethical and lacks transparency. I'm a low income person. This whole ordeal has hurt me financially AND MY DOG. I'm incredibly livid and disgusted and no one there seems to care. The vet totally blew me and my questions off and told the receptionist to tell me if I'm so worried take her to the ER..... Disgusting. The heart is not in the right place there. Avoid it. Save UR TIME and possibly your pet. I'm now taking her to Dr. Morse who hasn't had his talking head receptionists blowing me off but instead talking to me DIRECTLY and treating me and my dog like family and explaining to me clearly everything he needs to do to actually RESOLVE THE ISSUE so it doesn't WORSEN like... getting a fucking CULTURE. My dog could be in PERFECT health right now if that had been done the first time. Now Im worried about kidney damage or worse as I try to get proper care. I think they count on ppl to not know anything or that they're being TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF. I'm utterly disgusted with their ass backwards procedures up there and priority to profit off the ill of living beings.

Murphy has had a lipoma for the past few years under his left arm, but in May it started to grow rapidly and began to hinder his ability to walk. We had always gone to Gateway Animal Clinic in Tremont, so we took him there and they basically said that his best days were behind (rather callously) and all we could do was make him comfortable, without taking a thorough look at the lipoma. So we took him home and tried to keep him comfortable, but eventually, part of the tumor started to become necrotic and bleed, so we decied to take him to the local place, Cleveland Heights Animal Clinic. Dr. Kleinman was very kind and understanding of our situation, and although she also thought that there was nothing to be done about the tumor, she gave us medicine and a treatment plan for the necrosis and told us to come back in a week. The following week we went for the checkup (at this point thinking he had maybe a week left before we would have to put him down) and to our surprise Dr. Kleinman reassessed the tumor and decided that it would be removable. She came in on her July 4th holiday to spend 4 hours removing Murphy's tumor and did so successfully. When they took it out it weighed almost 9 pounds. One month later Murphy is completely back to normal and healed up. He could live another 3-4 years it seems. Just a month ago we had resigned ourselves to the fact that our best friend would be leaving us, and now he has a renewed life thanks to Dr. Kleinman and the staff at the Cleveland Heights Animal Clinic. Throughout the entire process we were extremely impressed with the attention and care they gave to our dog, and we will always use them for out vet needs while we live in Cleveland. In addition to quality care they are timely, professional, and reasonably priced. If you are looking for a new vet, there is no need to look further

In my experience, some emergency vets are always on a state of high alert and lose the empathetic aspect of their work serving pets and pet owners who are in a state of worry. If you are taking your pet in right now, due to COVID restrictions, you should know that you will not always be able to go with your pet into a veterinary room, which can be scary. Dr. Christine Danish was telling us our dog was "not sick enough to be here" after our dog refused to eat or drink all day, had liquid diarrhea all over the vets office floor that she was dealing with for 3 days already and was visibly in physical pain limping. Dr. Danish's professional opinion was that our dog had a stomach ache and a sprained paw and needed to go home. Coincidentally enough on her discharge paperwork she left a "suspected tick disease" note. However, we were sent home with parasite medication for our pup and a $500 bill. Three days after the initial visit, my dog's health had drastically declined even while closely following the medication schedule we were given. Her breathing was becoming labored and she needed to be carried out of the house as she could barely hold herself up. Expecting to be given the run around again, we were very grateful for Dr. McHenry for quickly diagnosing our dog with Lyme Disease due to her symptoms of limping, diarrhea and refusal to eat. Had we waited any longer to get our dog care, she would have gone into kidney failure. Unfortunately, those three extra days we waited were long enough to have lasting negative effects on our dog's health, making her anemic, prone to chronic joint pain and needing to closely monitor her kidney function for life. This entire week watching my dog's health decline has also taken an emotional toll on myself and my young kids. As upset as I am with our initial visit, I am giving 2 stars since our experience with Dr. McHenry was so pleasant and our pup has been showing visible signs of recovery. Overall, I would not recommend this practice. They did not offer any incentives financially for their initial misdiagnosis, which was very disappointing considering what we've gone through this week at the hands of their misdiagnosis. I would not risk your animal's health or waste your time or money going here.
