Both the vet and staff were amazing! It was just a routine visit but I felt listened to and taken seriously. My dog does not like going to the vet and can be difficult to work with. They were so good with him. He responded really well to them. Did not wait long for my appt to start. The vet had several suggestions for an ongoing problem that I feel will be beneficial. I've stopped going here and am now taking my cats to Just Cats on Mayfield and my dog to Mandel Veterinary Hospital on South Taylor. The reason is because they were very impatient with our cats. We even had one tech toss a syringe, and throw up his hands when he was unsuccessful at getting blood from my cat. I nearly cried. I left without saying anything (feeling it was our fault maybe?) but called to tell them I no longer wanted him to work with my pets. I should have learned but I still came back, then another vet was also unable to get blood from my cat. They made me feel like I had an difficult cat, and I couldn't believe it! I have since been taking this very cat to Just Cats and they have had ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS with my cat. I'm sorry to post a negative review as I was once a fan of this establishment but I don't think they did a good job with my cat at all! read more

I visited Rainbow Veterinary Clinic on a Tuesday morning, and I was delighted with the experience. This visit was an intake visit after adopting my cat, Sabatha, from the APL. Rainbow Vet is one of the few clinics in Cleveland Heights that offers free vet visits after an adoption. My vet on this occasion was Dr. Mitchell, and she did a thorough exam on my cat and made me feel involved in her care. She tailored everything to my level of knowledge and she and her tech provided excellent anticipatory guidance along with a kitten starter pack that gave some good information about starting out as a cat owner. Ultimately, the experience was wonderful for both me and my cat, and I'm looking forward to coming back for my checkup in one year! read more

The team at Rainbow Vet were my saving grace in getting my 4 month old puppy who unexpectedly passed away on Thursday 3/2 a referral for a necropsy when every other vet I talked to refused to help me. TL;DR: For about 10 years, until the natural deaths of feline companions, the entire staff at Rainbow Vet took amazing care of my cats. As my cats aged, they patiently walked me through at-home procedures I could do to maintain a high quality of life for both of them. ************ I was initially referred to Dr. Mitchell and she remained my primary vet. Like any good doc, she came into each appointment completely prepared. Well cat visits were quick but didn't feel rushed at all. I'm wary of change, but after watching Dr. Alcorn work, I was confident my cats would get great care from both. I'm the guy that worries about the cost later. When my cats were sick, both docs and staff did everything to keep me informed at every step. When a problem could be addressed by a specialist, they didn't hesitate to refer out. And when a problem was at point that nothing more could be done, they prepared me for my loss. Until I needed it, I didn't realize they had a separate room for compassionate deaths of beloved pets. When I did need it, I was so grateful it was there. I plan on bringing aboard a new fur-beast soon. BEFORE I adopt, I'll be giving the call to make sure I'm doing everything right and know what to expect early on with my soon-to-be-adopted ball-o-fur. Oh, and of course they will be my primary vet. Of that, there is no question. As long as I live in metro-Cleveland, they are my vets. read more

Cannot speak more highly of the staff here at Rainbow Veterinary Clinic!!! It's clear that every single staff member was there because of their love for animals. We came here off of a friend's recommendation and conveniently they offered free checkups for adoptions from Cleveland APL. We brought our three month old kitten here for a checkup and vaccinations and could not have been more impressed. No question was too stupid and no concern was too dramatic and we felt completely supported the entire time we were there. The energy at the clinic was incredible and we loved every second there. Our kitten was in amazing hands there and we truly felt the care he received there was top notch. We didn't feel like they were trying to sell us anything or recommend unnecessary shots or tests and all advice they gave was genuine. Our kitten ended up not feeling too great after his vaccines and upon calling the clinic, they recommended we come for a check just in case and we didn't feel like a burden or dramatic for freaking out over a little lethargy and body aches- if this doesn't show the level of care you'll receive here I don't know what will! read more

I needed to take a stray cat in for shots/exam but I have a crazy schedule and Mr. Cat being a stray wasn't always available. Rainbow Vet went out of their way to allow me time to bring Mr. Cat in. I have been taking my doggies the Rainbow for about 10 years so they are very familiar with me, yet they treated me like a new patient by making sure they gave me tips and advice on incorporating Mr. Cat into my home. They even sent me home with an information folder, never taking for granted that I already knew all of what cat parenting is about since I've been with them this long. This vet, Dr. Alcorn, is fantastic. Had to have my kitty's teeth cleaned and ultimately extractions had to be done. Very thorough service. The vet techs are amazing, everyone is friendly and my cat was immediately relaxed when they started petting him and talking to him. A cleaning is pricey but please know you are helping to avoid serious heart problems down the line, as well as infections that can occur. I called around and the price for a cat teeth cleaning in this area is pretty much in the same range no matter where you go; just know that if you take your pet here, it's the very best care. I've been to many east side vets, and this ones a keeper! read more

After some bad experiences at another local vet, we went here on a recommendation for our two cats, Ron and Carlos. Ron is fat - he likes to eat as much as I do - and the awful old biddy at the other location would always ridicule us for overfeeding him. We once put him on a diet, cutting his food intake by over 20% and replacing one meal a day with wet food, and he gained 2 pounds. The poor fatass was miserable, and it broke our hearts. But the ol' coot was relentless. "You're overdoing it... he's morbidly obese... a field mouse has 40 calories. I'm missing my crossword puzzles." Ron weighs 18 pounds. He can jump over a baby gate and keep up with our 10 pound Carlos just fine. He's big boned, so what? Anyway, we love the whole staff at Rainbow. They love Ron and all of his ampleness, and they love Carlos, too. They've gone above and beyond giving us all kinds of time and money saving (and vet visit saving, I might add) advice for our new pup, Coltrane, a beagle/something mix. They're just wonderful people, and they quite obviously love what they do. In return, we love them back. read more

I am IN LOVE with Rainbow Vet Clinic. Dr. Mitchell is the vet my cats go to and she is awesome. The staff is very friendly and nice to my kitties. Neither of my cats had gone to the vets for about 3 years before I took them to Rainbow. They both needed shots and they both had bad gingevitis and needed teeth pulled. Vaccines and checkup costs were reasonable. I did some checking out about the surgery costs and Rainbow was very comparable to the other vets in the area. Both my cats had 3 teeth pulled and were taken extremely good care of at Rainbow. I will continue to bring my babies to Rainbow for as long as I live in Cleveland. read more

I've been taking my cat (well...used to be cats) here since I moved to Cleveland Heights. Normally, we see Dr. Alcorn. She's amazing. First off, I had a cat (who passed away in Septmber) that I think may have actually be Satan in a cat's body. She was old, mean, crotchety, cranky, smelly, and hated everyone and everything. Yet Dr. Alcorn treated her as if she were just another special animal and was able to perform her exam and even a couple of surgeries on her. When she passed away (unfortunately at the vet's office), Dr. Alcorn sat with me as I cried and even called later that evening to make sure I was doing okay. My other cat, Oliver, is the second largest cat at the vet's office, or so I've heard. I've never heard anything mean about his weight, although it was suggested that I put him on a diet to prevent health problems (which I have done and he hates me for it). However, the staff reassured me that Oliver is in fact a big cat and is only "slightly chubby". The staff there are great - they treat Oliver as if he were their own and are always gentle with him, even when he's trying to rip their hands to shreds. Reasonably priced as well. They're fabulous when I call about something mundane and give great time and money saving advice. Overall, love this place. I can't imagine taking my pets elsewhere. read more

The vets, techs, assistants, and staff here are WONDERFUL beyond words. Despite having many clients, they take time to form relationships with both the human clients and their furry clients. Every time I go in, they remember me and my pets, even if they aren't with me. We typically see Dr. Alcorn, but in October, my poor pup got terribly sick and saw Dr. Mitchell based on availability. Sadly, Mason died from heart failure, but I will FOREVER be grateful for the urgency, care, and compassion they showed during this time. Recently, a stray cat found it's way into our basement and I took it in for a well visit/ exam today. Again, the entire team knocked it out of the park! Everyone fell in love with "Stray Kitty" and gave her so much love and attention, while also giving me great advice on how to be a temporary cat owner. If you're looking for a vet that REALLY cares about your pet AND you, look no further! read more

I believe he also drew my cats blood at my last visit and was nothing but professional. The other nurse was also helpful. I was very dissatisfied with my experience. i pulled into the parking lot 5 min late. my new puppy was in distress from the car ride. i sat in my car for a couple minutes calming her down. I walked into the office 8 min, late to be told that when someone is 7 min late they usually resched but that she would check with the dr. She came back to tell me that we could wait and the Dr. would see us but wasn't sure how long we would have to wait because the Dr. had an emergency situation with an animal. I said so we would've had to of waited anyway? she replied no the Dr. would've seen you at your scheduled time. I walked out because it concerned me to know the Dr would have put off an emergency to see us. just wouldn't recommend this place read more

Terrible service! They killed my dog! He walked in for surgery happy, and came out on a stretcher. There was no communication, I had to call them only to find out that he was ready. When I got there, they immediately took me to a holding room for payment. After paying, I was then notified that my dog was not in good condition and internally bleeding. He later died at the emergency. If you are looking for a place to take your pet and receive proper care, definitely SKIP this place. read more

I love Rainbow Vet. I honestly call them about once a month. My phone call always goes as follows: Me: Hi this is Laura, My dog Riley just ate ___________ (think, "The entire Thanksgiving Turkey" or "A box of 128 Crayons"). Do I need to be worried? Rainbow Vet: Hold on lemme go ask the Drs....(Pause)....Well... And then the tell me exactly what to do (and they have never once asked my as to why I am so stupid to stuff a Thanksgiving Turkey with a box of Crayons) with my incessantly hungry dog. Nor do they tire of my questions! That's just the kind of Vets Dr Mitchell and Dr Alcorn are. Really good, really nice, super caring vets. The office staff are great (they obviously care a lot about animals) and usually after any kind of non-standard-beyond-a-check-up-visit give a follow-up call to determine how lil' Riley is doing. When I got Riley as a puppy they had an information packet put together and walked me through the steps I could expect as the proud mom of a Labradoodle. I felt like I went from knowing nothing to knowing at least more than half of what I needed to know about being a dog owner - which is a LOT especially calculated in dog owner years. I would arm wrestle my friends if they were going to take their pet anywhere else. I'm throwdown serious about this place. I can not say enough about RB Vets. After going to a couple different vets in the area a friend told me about Rainbow Vet. I was very pleasesd with them from my first visit several years ago. Sadly I had to put my cat Misfit down recently. Dr. Alcorn and the staff made her and I as comfortable as possible. A few days later they sent a card with several notes and signed by Dr. Alcorn, Dr. Mitchell and a lot of staff members. This really meant a lot to me. I adopted a new kitty from the Cleveland APL and will return to Rainbow Vet. with my new boy. Thanks for all you do! read more

Expensive & Low Quality Service When I scheduled my appointment for my dogs annual check up and shots, Dr. Alcorn was randomly assigned to service my dog. On appointment day, I had high hopes because a neighbor says the service at rainbow is wonderful. I disagree. First, Dr. Alcorn examined my pet. Then, she left and in comes her technician to administer the shots and draw blood. My dog yelled and cried during this process and nearly passed out. I have never seen her in such pain and discomfort even though I have witnessed this procedure on her in the past. On one occassion, her blood was drawn at a pet supply store event, she was not happy about it, but NOTHING like this. On another occassion, again for an annual checkup, I had her blood drawn at another vets office. The veterinarian who drew her blood was so skillful, the dog barely noticed her blood was being drawn. And so, I decided to afford her that luxury from then on rather than pay $60.00 for shots administered to my pet at a pet store event. This was our first visit to Rainbow and I was mentally unprepared when Dr. Alcorn left the room and turned the process over to a tech. My dog has never been so unhappy. I've never seen so much blood come from the spot where they drew blood. Second, the veterinarian never came back in even to ask if I had further questions, or to see how my dog was doing, or anything. The tech just "handled" my dog and dismissed us when she was finished. The service cost nearly $200.00; for that kind of money, I expect more attention from the vet. Further, the tech should have training so they know how to calm a nervous dog and make the process less painful for them. read more

Dr. Mitchell saved the life of my 15 year old cat who then lived to be 25. I also love that they have a couple resident cats walking around....Stinky Al is my favorite because he always knows when I need a "cat hug." The doctors are okay and I have been going here for years but I will not go here anymore. I was four minutes late -- four lousy minutes -- and I called en route to let them know and they said it was okay....no problem. Upon arrival, they did not have my file pulled, told me (not asked) to wait and after 10 minutes informed me that they could not see me because they were double-booked and I was late. My advice...for what it is worth. First of all -- don't double-book people (which de facto means they will have to wait) and then refuse to see them.. Second -- don't expect customers to wait to see the doctor (either because you are behind schedule or double-booked) and then penalize them for being four minutes late. Finally -- Consider loyalty in your decisions. I have been coming here for years and had never been late and never once was I ever in the exam room at the scheduled time. To refuse to see my dog because of four minutes after I was loyal customer to them for years is ridiculous. I was also not comfortable with the way the receptionist treated me. read more

Excellent. Excellent. Everyone at Rainbow Vet is so helpful and sweet and patient. I took my kitten there this morning because a friend referred us to them and I could not be happier with this clinic. How do kittens get conjunctivitis? Can I catch something from him? How do I put this in? How long does it take? What's that? What's this? Why? Why? Why? I felt like a three year old with all of my questions but they kindly explained everything before, during and after. My wiggly little kitty likes them too. On top of it, my visit was very reasonably priced. Always a plus. read more

Rainbow Vet is AMAZING. Their staff are so great and I've always been so happy with the care my dog and cat have received here. Dr. Alcorn is my vet and I cannot say enough wonderful things about her. (Dr. Mitchell seems great too, I just haven't had that much experience with her.) I have a 12 year old Siberian Husky, Shyenne, who's pretty illness-prone and Dr. Alcorn has always taken care to find out what's wrong and treat it as quickly as possible. She's performed a couple of surgeries on Shyenne and they've always gone according to plan and have cost as much as the estimate said. When Shyenne began to have seizures while we were on the other side of the country, Dr. Alcorn spoke to me on the phone and did her best to keep up to date with blood work etc until we were able to get back to Cleveland. After I adopted my cat I began taking her to Dr. Alcorn as well and have been so happy with the service I receive. Aside from the actual care we've received Rainbow provides detailed invoices and records, so you're always able to go back and figure out exact what happened and when. They work with my pet insurance company as well, which is really great. They always call you with test results and updates when they say they will and the office is always clean and inviting. No complaints! Rainbow Vet is the best. read more

I've been working with Dr. Mitchell for almost 20 years - her entire career, I think. She's perfect at knowing when to take a step (whether it's performing a test, just keeping an eye, or helping a pet make the transition). She an expert in her field and has successfully treated just about everything you can imagine. She is surrounded by a terrific staff of techs and assistants who feel like family to me and my pets. I often schedule appointments so I (and the dogs) can say "Hi" to particular staff members. I feel lucky to have Rainbow Vet in my life. read more

Dr. Mitchell and her team are amazing! I picked up my dogs from a weeklong stay at a nearby boarding facility and was horrified to see that my older dog appeared to have been bitten on the ear and the wound was left untreated for several days. I called multiple vets in the area and understandably so, no one was able to fit in a new client (I recently moved here) on immediate notice. When I called Rainbow Vet, however, they told me to bring him in immediately and that Dr. Mitchell would find some time to see my dog. I was completely frazzled by the time I got to the office and the staff was wonderful with both my dog and me! Dr. Mitchell carefully irrigated the wound, sent him home with antibiotics and pain meds, and even recommended other boarding options. It's always a stressful situation to see your pet in pain and the fact that Dr. Mitchell and her team made time for mine meant the world to me. I absolutely will be using them for both dogs' routine care now. read more

Dr. Linda Mitchell cares for my 2 rescue dogs. She is amazing! On first meeting each one, she got down on the floor and played with them. Now, they both love going there. My older dog has needed to have a few teeth pulled, and once a treatment for ear infection. Both times, Dr. Mitchell's care was expert, and dog-side manner wonderful. My other very high-energy dog can be a handful. But Dr. Mitchell and staff have always loved him up and have no problem quieting him for his shots, which they give quickly and painlessly. Overall, I recommend this practice, and Dr. Mitchell especially, for anyone needing expert veterinary care. read more

I wish there was a Board of some sort to put this place on a watch list or out of business all together. I went there once and it nearly cost my cat his life! I was horrified by their incompetence. You will not see a veterinarian, you will see a tech with much less education and knowledge to spot issues with animals beyond the $99 charge and let's see what happens. Maybe you'll need to spend another $99 for their next guess at a diagnosis. My cat Moxie nearly lost his life. I brought him to Dr. Dan the next day because I could see in his eyes he was still suffering and constipation could not have been the cause---my gut told me they were wrong. Thank goodness. I've heard other stories about this place from others. One is that it changes ownership frequently and is staffed by techs 100% of the time, no actual doctors. read more

I have only gone to this vet a couple times but honestly a couple times is all it takes to form my opinion. The receptionist was very nice and welcoming and some of the staff were nice. My issue is how i overheard the staff being treated and the conversations that were going on outside the room waiting to be seen. talking about other clients, making fun of them. I worried I would be one of those clients they talk about. Not something I want to wonder at a vets office. I saw Dr. Mitchel and she was ok, seemed rushed and distracted-but probably because they were running late. I showed up 10 mins early for my appt and had to wait 35 min to be seen ( are you kidding me ?!). Also overheard her tone with the staff, I felt bad for them. She was down right nasty. I would hate to work for someone like that. The other Dr. also had absolutely no bed side manner the second time I brought my dog in, she had a bad attitude and when I asked about local Breeders for my Grandma who is blind and needs a service dog her bedside manner got worse ( did not think that was possible).The tech Dianna also rolled her eyes at me and outside of the room made a comment along the lines of "go to a pound selfish b***" I was disgusted. Overall I had to wait, the Dr had to be reminded twice about my main concern of bringing in my kitty the first time and the whole enviroment just seemed toxic. They may practice mediocre medicine if I caught them on a better day but not going to risk it. Also the clinic stunk like cat pee and I felt the service I was provided was way overpriced. read more

I've used this clinic for a couple years for my cat even though it's a more expensive than other places because it's close to my house and Dr Mitchell is great. However, the rest of the staff is not great and you can't always get Dr. Mitchell. I've decided to stop going here because I called them one Saturday when one of the Soft Claws my cat wears was cutting into her paw and I needed help to get it off (and willing to pay) I was told that even though it would take 1 minute for them to do this and she is bleeding - I don't have an appointment and have to wait until sometime next week! Really? Let the cat bleed a few days because we can't take 1 minute? Wow. Shocked. Maybe it was just the receptionist telling me this but as I've experienced, other than Dr Mitchell the rest of the office is not good. read more

Danielle got a blood sample faster and more comfortably for my 18-year-old cat than any vet tech at anywhere has ever gotten it. Grotesque Negligence. The fees and prices charged at this veterinary clinic are by far the highest I've seen at any animal clinic I have been to before. I've been bringing my two cats there for approximately a year now, and though the care they've received has always bordered on nearly adequate my latest experience with them turned into a complete nightmare. My 7 month old kitten was suffering from a severe eye ulcer that was only becoming worse over the course of 3 weeks of treatment. Though he showed signs of feline herpes and came from a shelter that had a feline herpes outbreak when I adopted him, Dr. Mitchell failed to diagnose him with a herpes induced ulcer and despite the ineffectiveness of the treatment she prescribed insisted on continuing it until the ulcer reached a point that his eye nearly ruptured. One $2500 emergency surgery later, at the Metropolitan Animal Hospital, barely managed to save my kitten's eye. We both now have many months of more vet bills and future procedures to look forward to thanks to Rainbow Vet Clinic's failure to make a simple diagnosis that could have resolved this very serious problem with a few weeks of anti-viral medicines. I've since learned that feline herpes induced eye problems is such a common affliction among kittens, especially those from rescue shelters, that the fact that a "trained" veterinarian dropped the ball in a situation like this truly boggles the mind and can only be described as malpractice. Needless to say I am done here. Only take your pets to Rainbow Veterinary Clinic if you have excessive money you want to get rid of and don't care about your animal companion's well being. read more
