    Phenomenon!

Repeated, we must!! We showed up again; due to my reservation I messed up, the restaurant took care our seating regardless people at that time were building up. To night we ordered the veal and lamb chops, at least none of these were disappointing, we again really enjoyed the delicious cooking! So long and we hope them the best 'till next time we return. Mushrooms w butter, veggie burgers and fried brie

This was hands down one of my favorite meals in Porto. I completely stumbled upon this place by looking up restaurants on google maps...I started reading reviews and thought it sounded pretty good so I decided to walk in (around 9 pm on a Friday night) and had no problem getting a table. It's super cute inside with a great ambiance - dim lighting with candles at each table. All of the food i had was unbelievable. After reading some reviews, i decided to order the mushrooms with herbs butter, the vegetarian burgers with caramelized onions, and the fried brie. Oh my loooord the veggie burgers were some of the best I've had and I'm not even a vegetarian. I finished off the meal with the chocolate cake and a glass of the 10-year port wine (my first and only glass in Porto!) I'm not usually a fan of port wine since it's typically pretty sweet but I knew I had to try a glass since I was in Porto! I asked my server for his suggestion on which one I should get and he recommended the 10-year...it was amazing! Paired perfectly with the chocolate cake. YUM. The service was great, awesome vibe (very romantic), and truly just a wonderful overall experience. I would highly recommend stopping here when in Porto!

WOW what an excellent meal at Raiz. The veggie burger was so unique, crispy, and out of this world. Tomato rice was delicious, so simple but made well. Our kids devoured this. The bread was also delicious. Highly recommended...one of our favorite meals in Porto.

This is our second eating here. First time without reservations, so we sat by the window in a tight 2 seater table. 2nd time, we made reservations. Unbeknownst to us, we had to climb stairs to the 3rd floor. No one was seated on the first or second floors as all the tables were empty when we got there. Another couple had to climb the stairs as well. When we left, only 2 tables were taken on the 2nd, and no one was seated on the first. I'm not sure what's up with that. So, be prepared to climb tight stairs if you decide to eat here. The food is good.

This place is a great dinner spot. Breaded Brie was amazing and so tasty! We ordered several tapas and shared them. Affordable and really hits the spot. There are a few floors in the restaurant so try to sit upstairs by the windows!

Sweet potato pudding with DELIGHTFUL mandarin sorbet, enjoyed immensely.

Very hot inside. Turkey nuggets dry. Pork entry tough and difficult to cut. Cod average at best. Would not return

The Wine Box - Pairing aged white ports with sweet stuff

This was another spot I visited while I was in Portugal that was *not* on my list - a truly…read morewonderful seafood restaurant around the corner was, that I got to before noon because I wasn't sure when they opened (turned out: 12:45 that day), so I was wandering around with an hour to kill and found this place. They have flights, including one that's 15 euros where you let them know what you're looking for and they pick out the 3 bottles, which is very neat. I told them I was in Porto mainly to try Port wines, and didn't have much familiarity with other, non-fortified Portuguese wines, and would love an intro flight, but no roses. Got a mini-lesson in the wine regions of Portugal, along with a wonderful green wine, a great Duoro valley red, and a truly fantastic red from Alentejo, a wine region I had not previously heard of, but immediately went on my radar the rest of the trip. (They also sell bottles; I bought a bottle.) Note, they said they only guarantee they'll do flights (as opposed to full-priced full glass pours) after 4 pm, but if they aren't busy for the food lunch rush, they'll do them earlier in the day (on a rainy Thursday in January they were more than happy to.) Actually liked the place so much, I came back the next afternoon and had another glass of a different Alentejo red - they only had one open for tasting in the price range that fit the "intro"-priced wine flight, so I spent... I believe 11 euros on a glass of a fancier bottle they recommended. It was also quite good, though I think I actually preferred the first one. Also had one glass of a very reasonably priced tawny Port while I was there - they had several, but obviously, I was already well into my plan to taste Port directly from all of the nearby tasting rooms across the bridge, so I just picked one here. (Unsurprisingly, it was also quite good.) They do also sell food, but I can't comment on it. Great place for quick wine tasting, though.

Overall, a great experience. Originally found this via my Lonely Planet guidebook (yes, the…read morepaperback book, lol; old school, I know.) The space is upscale and has good air conditioning. I find the American country music playlist pretty amusing. The service is polite and the server spoke English well enough to explain where this wine came from, pairings for thiss and that wine, etc. I was only there for wine tastings, and maybe a snack to pair with. Good stuff overall. I love the menu! It's very explanatory; you could spent 30 minutes reading and absorbing some of the info about Portuguese wines, so definitely keep it after you order to browse and read. Pro tip: They have spit buckets. Ask for one and use it. Can taste more wines with less intoxication. Only miss was that they served me the aged white ports, which are chilled, a few minutes before the desert things that I was pairing them with. This let them warm up a bit before I could pair them with food, especially since I asked for small pours. Bathrooms: Spacious, bougie, clean, and functional.

The wait staff was attentive and friendly, the food tasted exceptional. We were lucky to be seated in the small dining room facing the river, so the atmosphere was intimate and view was impressive. DeCastro Gaia, situated on the second floor of a stunning building right on the waterfront on the Gaia side, offered us breathtaking views of Porto. Seriously, if you're having dinner here, go at sunset for a dramatic backdrop of one of Portugal's most beautiful cities. The room they seated us in was intimate and cozy, and we ended up lingering for nearly three hours. The food itself was good, just not exceptional. My duck rice fell a little short of expectations, with some undercooked grains and duck that could have been more tender. That said, the service was phenomenal. I still wholeheartedly recommend this place if you're after a memorable meal in Gaia with killer views of Porto.
