    Vintage & vintage inspired clothing.

My boyfriend has shopped here for years! When we make the sojourn from The OC to LA we always include this Ralph Lauren store as an addition to our other haunts nearby. Anyway, while very expensive the clothes are well-made, unique & fit great! Not for everyone or every body type but even if you can't wear the clothes there are expensive accessories you can dream about. Tooled Leather bags & belts, Saint Christopher charms, bandanas, shoes etc. The emphasis is on vintage or vintage-inspired, southwest or biker, men's mostly with some woman's styles as well. Lots of Denim & cotton. The store itself is cool! It's a converted olde time gas station that fits into the vintage vibe perfectly. The customer service is excellent. Thomas has helped my BF for years. He must be good because whenever I see my BF wearing a great shirt, pair of jeans or jacket it usually came from Double RL.

I had stopped in to the RRL Store on Melrose, I was taking the long way home after visiting some clients in LA. I had been wanting to go the RRL store on Melrose since I had such an amazing experience at the Malibu store. Plus I was in need of a new weekend duffel bag and I wanted a leather RRL one. All the RRL stores I have been to around the country had impressed me, they are part antique store, part clothing store, and part museum. Now since I had been out helping a client install a new display in their shop, I was in a pair of jeans, a regular tee shirt, and my chucks. Based on the look I got walking into the store you would have thought I walked in and pissed on the rug, the staff looked me up and down and made a value judgement that because I was not in full hipster regalia I should be ignored. I went on about my business, headed towards the bags along the back wall, I found a few I liked; but I saw a style I liked in a smaller size and wanted to see if they had anything similar that was in a larger size. I attempted to get the attention of the guy working up at the front but after he looked right through me for the third time I just took the bag to the front to ask my question. Instead of a polite yes or no, I got "You realize that bag would be about $1,500" to which I replied "Yes I understand, but do you have one?" I could tell I was bothering him, but he did really try to help... he looked up from where he was, leaned to look around me at the wall of bags I had just come from and said, "Don't see one" he quickly returned to whatever distraction I was keeping him from. So I returned the bag to the shelf, and left, on the way out I was again not acknowledged, with a "thank you" or "come again". The overall feeling was that I was disrupting the staffs morning. I got the feeling that had I pulled up in on of my vintage cars, had on my Rolex, and been dressed to the nines I might have gotten a better service. Heaven forbid anyone wear work-wear into a RRL store to buy vintage inspired work-wear, from people who have never worked a day in their life. So be forewarned that if you are not wearing ultra skinny jeans, carrying a man purse, or sporting dubious facial hair you will likely be treated as a fashion pariah and draw the disapproving stares of the staff. Now on to the store itself. The decor is what would expect from RRL, its amazing, the shop looks like old service station and is filled with cool motorcycles, vintage displays, hard to find books (most I already had), and some great vintage fixtures. It's a lesson to anyone wanting to see branding done right. From the old leather jacket with the AMA patches positioned next to an old Triumph motorcycle, to the industrial machinists tables and well worn leather sofa, its a place I would spend a lot more time, that is if I was welcome. I guess the laid back guy at the Malibu location will get some of my business when I make it all the way out there.

Everyone was super kind and patient, and they helped me make sure I got the proper sizes and the dresses I wanted. A special shoutout to Mia and Bryanna, they deserve raises. I felt very taken care of by both of them. They were so supportive, and I was able to get the dresses I needed for my events. They used to have separate stores for men and women, not sure if that's still a thing but it made it easier to browse depending on your style preferences. I've sold here plenty of times, and the commission is fair for what you're getting. The shopping experience is smooth, and the store offers a great mix of authentic, pre owned designer pieces. Most recently, I received an Officine Générale turtleneck that had been described as being in "Very Good" condition. It arrived with significant pilling, appeared dirty, and smelled strongly of cheap women's perfume. It was not remotely consistent with the condition advertised. What happened next was even more troubling. I contacted Customer Service expecting a straightforward acknowledgment and resolution. Instead, I received responses that repeatedly failed to address the actual issue being raised. The conversation devolved into a discussion about whether I would accept compensation based on the purchase price of the item, despite my making it abundantly clear that I had no interest in keeping it at any price. The concern was misrepresentation and quality control. I cannot recall another customer service interaction that felt this tone deaf. As someone who has worked with major organizations, including Apple and Spectrum, on matters involving customer experience and communication, I can honestly say I will use this exchange as an example of exactly what not to do. Customers understand that mistakes happen. What they do not forget is being ignored when they clearly articulate a legitimate concern. My concerns extend beyond this single transaction. As a consignor, I have increasingly questioned whether the standards applied to sellers are consistent or fair. A pair of Tod's loafers yielded a net payout to me of just $9.72. A brand-new pair of Theory shoes, still in the box with tags and obviously never worn, was graded only as "Good" condition and generated a payout of $7.00. The RealReal positions itself as a luxury marketplace. Luxury is not just a logo or a price point. It is attention to detail, thoughtful service, accurate representation, and respect for both buyers and consignors. Unfortunately, this experience failed on every one of those measures. Mistakes happen. Indifference should not.

Does Flirt Clothing live up to its name?…read more If you're expecting an inanimate building to ask your name and number, then no. And if you're expecting the employees to ask you "come here often?" before motioning the barkeep to bring you another of whatever you're having, then still, NO. Or maybe yes. Just not with me. Pffft. The clothes are definitely fun and flirty, though -- if you wear them. Flirt is the typical Melrose kitsch store -- one-offs and private labels abound. Not too many jean choices (mostly charcoal gray), and not that many T-shirts, but the ones they have will have you going gaga, lady. What's a boy like me doing reviewing an exclusively girl's store? Well, I have no intention of wearing that off-the-shoulder blouse or sundress (hmm... with the right belt and handbag, I -- nevermind), but the store is definitely a pleasant place, even if you're just waiting on girls to finish trying things on. You can stand there awkwardly listening to the early 1990s era boombox that's pumping out KISS FM all day (Lil Wayne seems determined to make me his fan), or check yourself out in the mirrors on the wall. "Oh you are quite the looker, aren't you..." Anyway, speaking of incredible, psychologically unhealthy narcissism (or not, whatever), the pink-curtained dressing rooms have matching pink folding chairs -- everything in the store has either touches or tons of pink, which sounds like a Hello Kitty nightmare but is actually kind of cute in a flamingo-pecked-my-eyes-out way. When you try things on, it's with a soft background of Pepto Bismo, but it does make that hotgasmic pair of koolats stand out in palatial, plaid glory. Sweet Heavens, but you're beautiful. Now close your curtain -- that weird tattoo guy with his tattooier girlfriend can see your thong. Hey, the stuff you're trying on is on sale, too! At least a fourth of the store is half off, so you'll have more money left over to blow on things like shoes, handbags, and rent. Service is fast, friendly, and helpful -- they'll make useful suggestions that aren't lame attempts at plus-selling. Flirt Clothing does lose one star because they forgot to remove a security tag on a $240 hobo bag. Now I'm going to have to come back tomorrow -- with receipt -- to have them remove it because SOMEBODY'S too busy (*cough* gainfully employed) to do so herself. I'm going to play like it's mine. It looks cuter on me anyway :-)

I bought a beautiful purple scarf with brown leopard spots on it the other day. The material was like that of a soft sweater. It was only $19.00. I could've gotten a better deal on it if I bargained with the lady there, but I didn't since the price was already low. Also, she was nice and showed me how to tie it since I wasn't sure how to wear it. I always leave scarves untied up until now. She showed me and it was easier than it I thought it would be. I really appreciated that. Also, it was great that she could actually break a $100.00 bill. Some places can't. If you're not familair with the area, you might not know that due to lots of competition, sometimes the shop owner or manager will give you a discount on clothes and other items if you ask them for one. Sometimes they are so eager to sell, they just offer you a good deal. I didn't want to appear cheap though, so I didn't bother asking. It was also nice that she didn't bug me or follow me around like a lot of the shop employees tend to do sometimes. This is a great place and I'll come back here next time I'm in LA.
