I went to Ralph's today, and gosh darn it, that cowboy knows how to cut hair. I brought in some photos of what I wanted and he totally got it and delivered. My hair hasn't looked this good in a long time--since I lived in a major west coast city and paid major west coast prices. That said, Ralph is a character. He might not be for everyone, but I appreciate a good looking cut. He knew that the last person who cut my hair used my part to decide how to cut my hair. Ralph said he was going to cut my hair not according to the part (which I usually style over) but rather according to how my hair behaves. If you can put up with a sort of gruff cowboy type who takes hair cutting seriously, consider trying Ralph. read more

I don't buy into Ralphs booking clients, weekly and if you don't book regularly he has a tendency to make you wait with other ladies that have the same appointment time. Ralph caterers to his "inner circle of friends" that can walk-in for a quick hair fix, while I wait and wait. I made an appointment and had to cancel due to being exposed to Covid, in Saddlebrooke. After the waiting period I called back and a nice young man made the reservations" today. Ralph, called back to cancel telling me I never give cancelation notice and he said he will refuse service to me" today and in the future! Ralph caters to folks that have $$$ their hair done weekly or 2-3 times a month, brags about being invited to clients social events and discriminates against folks like me that travel, get cuts from other great stylist and tip according to the service. Let me paint the picture. I have been seeing Ralph for just over 2 years. A few weeks ago, I called the salon and left a message that I wanted to make a haircut appt for myself and my sister. My sister was moving here from WA state and needed a hairdresser. She had already been to him in March 2022 when she visited. He did not return the phone call, so I called back the following week. Still no phone call from him. I happened to be driving by and thought I would go in to see what was up and make the appointments. When I opened the door, he turned and looked at me with an angry look. I said, "Hi Ralph, I have been trying to get ahold of you, but you haven't returned my phone calls. I was beginning to wonder if I was still a customer of yours." He angrily responded in a loud voice, "YOU'RE NOT A CLIENT of MINE." There was another customer in one of the chairs. I responded with "You could have least called me and told me in a civil way that I was a not a client." He spoke over me and said," But thank you for coming in", as he walked away with his back toward me. The entire exchange took less than 20 seconds. I am normally a very nice person, and accept what comes my way, but there is absolutely no excuse for such behavior from a hairdresser or from anybody else serving the public. His behavior towards me was totally uncalled for and extremely unprofessional. Telling others in my circle of friends and other hairdressers what happened I have been told there is a history of his erratic behavior. I am one of the lucky ones who did not sit in his chair, one final time, and allow him to give me a butchered haircut to get the point across that he did not want me as a client. Everyone knows Ralph and it is not good. Oh yes, give the devil his due- he gives a good cut when he wants to. read more

I love Ralph! He knows hair color and cuts! I'm so happy to have found such a talented designer after just moving to this area of the country! He's made my cut so easy to maintain and style! I get lots of compliments. I've never had to wait for him or have been disappointed with my cut and color. I have been going to Ralph for many years. He is a great guy and a great stylist. There has been only one time in 10 years when he did not show up and it was a mix up. I do not recommend Ralphs Hair Salon to anyone! I had given someone a $100 gift certificate to get her hair highlighted/perm, he charged her an extra $100 with the gift certificate (total $200). Prior to yesterday's appointment he charged her total $160 for highlights/perm. This is totally wrong for the Salon to do this to my friend, she is a disabled woman in her 70's and to charge someone so much money, wow. Having put up w/Ralph always running late & one time not showing up at all, I wrote this character off! Buuut theeen...my hairdresser got pregnant & has taken time off so...ok one more try. About 15 miles n. of Tucson is tiny Catalina and tiny Ralph's shop. I won't call it a salon because it is not chic, not status-y and rather rustic. Ralph's a local guy, animal lover and hardworking person who is a naturally-talented stylist. I have never had as good a cut in pricy Chicago, Boston or Miami salons. My reverse bob is perfect and everyone asks me who cuts my hair. I drive 45 mi. every 4 weeks to see Ralph. I will admit, Ralph is occasionally a little abrupt, especially if you are a little snooty or pushy. He is also generous, kind and funny. He is booked, generally, all day every day and is a real "find". Lucky you if you can become a client. BTW, I am completely objective, not a relative or paid reviewer....just very glad to have discovered Ralph's. read more
