This was to be our stay after day two of driving from Northern Michigan to Las Vegas. Sunday, late afternoon in March and we didn't get as far as planned. Sterling ended up a mistake in numerous ways. Starting with the Ramada. Once a great stay, this facility is so run down, we handed the keys back and headed for Fort Morgan. Even the woman at the desk recommended we take a good look at the room before paying. Good thing. Clearly dilapidated over the years, it's clearly time to renovate or just plain knock it down. Very sad. While that second woman was polite and a godsend to us, the first clerk we dealt with was rude and abrupt. Snapping at my wife that she saw two dogs in our car and will be charging a large fee for both of them. Shame on me for not walking in and getting names. 03/24 read more

Lowest priced place in town! So starting off with 5 stars. First thing I noticed was a woman sitting on the curb out front smoking a cigarette. When we exited the car to check in, she got up and went inside to do our paperwork. Ok. Couple other things I noticed right off the bat was the room door was missing the security latch, and a bulb was missing from one of the lamps. The light-bulb was not an issue... yet, but the reduced security was. So looks like we're down to 4 stars. The air-conditioner did everything EXCEPT maintain a steady temperature no matter what I tried regarding the settings. It went from cold (needing blankets) to breaking out in a sweat. And guess what I do for a living. That's right, I repair air-conditioners. And speaking of sweat, that's exactly what the bathroom smelled like; old sweaty clothes. Revised rating: 3 stars. There were various items that had damage as you can see in the photos. But the biggest of the bunch was the bathroom door. The bottom looked like it was gnawed on by a lion (or wild animal of your choice). That didn't bother me too much. But you know what did bother me? That you had to shove the door with excessive force just to get it to close. We are now at 2 stars. But wait, there's MORE! Remember the light-bulb? The room already struggles for lighting due to the small window looking out to a dark courtyard. I asked three times for a replacement bulb, and they said they would give me one or have maintenance replace it. Never happened. And without the light it made things difficult to see. Not a major deal, but the biggest issue is maid service. My wife asked if they would clean our room the next day, and they said "yes". Didn't happen. She asked again for the day after and that also didn't happen. Apparently they don't do exterior cleaning service either. The room next door put out their garbage, and it sat for more than a day. The toilet paper roll was half used when we arrived. A few days later, since there was no cleaning service, my wife asked the receptionist for a new roll. She was told that they ran out. So she asked them if she needed to go to Walmart to purchase a roll. I think this is sufficient to deduct another star. So here we are: 1 star. In all fairness, since none of the beverage machines worked after several attempts, at least the receptionist was kind enough to give us a couple beverages from the snack shop. So was there anything positive about our stay. Indeed there was...... PRICE! But remember, ya get what ya pay fer. read more

Their rooms are perfect for a pleasant stay and the tv is clear and large. Pet friendly which was very helpful when needing to find a place last minute! What is the deal with the pool in the middle of the hotel? It's like they made a courtyard inside. Which makes the noise a lot louder and harder to get away from. And it goes to ALL the interior rooms. Seriously, what a weird space. And the restaurant is shut down, though the remnants of the restaurant are all around in some sort of strange post-apocalyptic mishmash of stuff just being in the parking lot and in the space. Front desk staff was nice enough if a bit clueless. It was clean, I don't really have any complaints. Could have used more outlets. And the walls were occasionally a bit broken. What is with this "by Wyndham" thing anyway? Everytime I stay at a "by Wyndham" hotel, it's like it's a crappier version of the original hotel type. I 'm writing this review to help me remember that if I'm ever in this part of the country again, never stay at this hotel. I was brought up not to talk bad but find something positive to say. This was a challenge. I'll admit the electronic key card was in great condition; that's about all. Some other positive things include a well working air conditioner and good water pressure. Things that could be better include 1) replace the door handle that sometimes works, sometimes not; 2) clean the mini fridge (it looks like it hasn't been defrosted in a couple years and I'm not sure what the pink/red stains on the ice buildup is; 3) replace the mattress (that should have been done a couple years ago.); 4) While the sheets appeared clean (except for a couple bugs), the mattress pad and the bed spread have obvious stains, If not able to be cleaned, should have been discarded; 5) replace the lampshades that have obvious tears and burns; and 6) I recommend removing the random nails/screws that are in the wall, clearly left there from a previous purpose. I'd like to end on some positives. The location was close to the freeway; the armoire/TV stand was clean and in fairly new condition; TV worked fine; and the complimentary toiletries seemed quite reasonable. (PS. No effing way. We checked in to this rundown hole in the wall "hotel".. it was probably nice 40 years ago. No a/c in room so front desk gave me a filthy box fan. Outdoor door to the side entrance was taped up with masking tape for some reason and door did not close-.. security risk. It needs a major upgrade. We left did not stay even though our room was pre paid. We were waiting for "IT" to appear from somewhere in the large empty atrium. I think we were the only ones there. We have a tendency to not look at Yelp when booking hotels because honestly, it's just a quick night. A roof over our head, a bed, a tv, a breakfast (if we're lucky) and according to the kids, a swimming pool. We really aren't picky and as long as they answer the phone and say yes we have a functional pool and at least a continental breakfast...we're game. What we've discovered is that Yelp hates hotels...the only people who post reviews are aggressive and angry and usually berate a single employee or complain about a chipped floor tile or loud bands playing in the attached restaurant. No one happy ever reviews a hotel. Ironically...i'm not here to change that...but I will be changing that habit. I will start glancing at some reviews before booking. Unlike other hotels, most of the reviews on this hotel are actually from people with more than one or two posts and in hindsight, DAMN...every post is straight up 100% FACTUAL! Do not stay here! Keep driving...hell...sleep in your car if it suits you...just avoid this place like the Bate's Hotel! Ramada...you should be ashamed to put your name on this building. It appears to be an old Motor Lodge (Two separate buildings, with an office in the front, and a parking lot in the middle, with a quaint swimming pool)...then some genius decided to build a couple of end cap walls, toss a shitty i-beam roof over it all, throw down some carpet over the parking lot and not nearly a bright enough lighting scheme in a warehouse sized space, and call it a Ramada...by Wyndam...seriously? You can look at the 'interior' rooms and realize that is exactly what happened. I guess you get points for trying to make a pool friendly in a dust bowl that is Sterling...and maybe even a few points for making a motel next to a prison safer with interior rooms...but it's still a turd. Honestly, if just this...I'd still give it a 3 (primarily because i'm not an Asshole) and where I waver around a 2.5, i'm willing to give a 3. HOWEVER...EVERYTHING IS OUT OF ORDER! They told us about the hot tub when we called ahead. What they didn't tell us about: Soda Machine, Ice machine, Computer Station, Out of Milk, Out of Juice, and a broken Mother Flippin' Coffee Pot! We were directed to the gas station next door for Coffee! Everything had a 'sorry for the inconvenience' hand written sign slapped on it! I get it...you're in the shittiest location on earth and you run out of stuff and things break but some of those things look like it's been 6 months. I'm not sure if the computer has worked since Y2K. From the looks of the 'workout facility' (a few exercise bikes in one of the motel rooms with the door propped open with some barbells)...there is nothing about this motel that one would consider an amenity. I'm a realist...I get it...life is tough...business is tougher...but damn, take my $95 and buy a coffee pot...baby steps people...baby steps. And in case you missed it...DON'T STAY HERE! read more

I would never recommend this place. Complete trash. Drug deals outside - This is my experience when inRented two rooms for my family halfway to our vacation destination. There were burn holes in the bedspreads, the pool was full of hair oils and was not clean, on one of the air conditioners there was blood. In the other room one of the bedspreads looked like it had feces smeared on it, grasshoppers and tons of flies in both rooms. No outside security cameras. A side door did not even close. read more

We needed a place that would allow our dog to stay in our room, for that reason we stayed here. This place is not as classy as a dump. There is no pride of ownership shown by this business when they rent out rooms that are just overpriced and plain right dirty. See my pictures. $20.00 pet deposit? Our dog kept roaming the room seeking out other pet's smell, this left us wondering how clean the room and the carpet was. No ice bucket in the room, but was given a plastic trash bag so I could get some ice at the front desk as they didn't have any available. Classy huh!?! Bathroom toilet ran all night and the tub faucet was dripping. They have the nerve to post a sign on their towels about the "environment", yet do not care about water running all night. The sink faucet was so worn I had to keep adjusting the handle to get it to quit running and finally even got it to quit dripping only to have to mess with it after next use. There were two queen beds in our room, yet one box spring was a full that did not fit the frame that was a major trip hazard for any guest. Bent table lamp with filthy lamp shade. Walls patched from (?) and never attempted to paint, wall paper peeling from wall under sink counter top visible for any seeing person to see. Don't waste your money here. I won't ever stay here again nor at a Ramada Hotel as they have absolutely no standards. read more

We booked this coming through town. Now we wished we had gone some place else. I rarely leave bad reviews but we are very disappointed. Dated, okay I can live with that. Doesn't really matter that much if the price is decent and everything else is good. But dirty. I would go so far to say run down. Typically someone comes to clean up the room in between days. No one has come so far. The key card we've had to get them to fix 3 different times now. The fridge isn't working in the room. No microwave. TV just shut off. The door keeps opening and doesn't shut properly. Water keeps draining in the tub when we were trying to take a bath. So the one star would be because the bed was reasonably comfortable. This is by far the worst hotel that I've stayed at and I am a frequent traveler (international and within the states). First off the rates do seem like a deal but NO. I got adjoining rooms with my best friend and her boyfriend (my daughters 5th birthday celebration). We arrived around 10pm and had been driving for 16 hours a piece. We were too tired to find another place but immediately the room disgusted me. I felt bad yelling at my child not to touch anything but during covid times they should know better. SHAME ON YOU! Toenail clippings on the floor, mystery red sauce on the floor AND bed, MOLD on the bed (the lady at the front desk kept saying it wasn't but I wasn't born yesterday), a huge red spider in the bathroom (shower curtains were ripped). I could go on and on but I will just include photos. We should have slept in the car with my baby instead of risking our health. I called corporate and will be contacting the CDC. The lady said that they were short staffed due to Covid but if you can't be sanitary then SHUT DOWN. Skip this location. read more

We were stuck in Sterling (along with a bunch of other families) because the interstate was closed and even though the Ramada was sold out the staff was incredibly nice and worked round the clock to make sure we had somewhere to stay even though we didn't have a reservation. The staff is friendly, the rooms are average (be aware not all have external windows, I got stuck in one that looks out onto the indoor swimming pool, and smells strongly of chlorine), and for the price, it's what I expected, and even a little better. BUT. Finding a warning sheet in your rooms to not let infants consume the tap water due to elevated levels of nitrates is of concern, so please be aware of you are visiting and have kids. I'm sure it's not the fault of the hotel, but it is a consideration. From the sheet, the water was tested in November 2010, and is being monitored until it is safe again. A real positive is that they are providing bottled water to the guests, free of charge. That's a thoughtful gesture to hot, tired travelers like myself who crave some water! Speaking of hot...no A/C...only a swamp cooler. Which would be okay, if I weren't tired, hot and disgruntled from driving all day. Staff was very helpful in trying to get my unit to work, however, letting me know I should wait an hour or two, and if it doesn't cool off, they'll move my room for me. But seeing a fan in your room as standard equipment is a little unnerving. But, I like white noise at night, so I'm counting that as a positive. On-site restaurant and lounge, easy access to town. Only real downside is prison right behind the hotel. Hoping for no Code Blues! read more

Not bad at all. It is a great place to stay when seeing all Sterling has to offer. I love the proximity to the prison. I am sure those that are here visiting inmates enjoy that as well. This hotel isn't new by any stretch of the imagination but it was a place to sleep. I enjoyed the pool immensely. Only downside was the cows mooing outside my window every morning. Oh dear, I really wanted to like this hotel. They were so nice on the phone. Reservation was messed up, and we had to change rooms the next day. We needed two queens not a king bed. The hotel is so run down, it is really showing its age. Apparently an animal had been locked in the bathroom and destroyed the bottom of the door, it would not latch. So much for privacy! Broken sinks, duct tape on the carpet, curtains off the rod, stained chairs, it is so shabby and not in a chic way. read more

Stopped here after a long day of driving cross Nebraska...parking lot has plenty of room if you are hauling a trailer or an RV. Staff was friendly, rooms were clean although the AC didn't work in my room. Has a great indoor pool and a 24 hour restuarant attached to the hotel witha full bar. Good job! read more

We were stuck in a room on the second floor near the starcase on the side. There were some noice running loudly throughout the night. When we told the front desk the next morning, the clerks just gave all kinds of reasons - air conditioning running, blah blah blah. Then their computer was down and we were not given a receipt. We always got worried when that happened. As far as the room is concerned, the bed was clean, the bathroom had soap, and adequate shampoo bottle (I meant adequate for one wash). There was free WiFi. No breakfast included. There is a restaurant inside the hotel. For the price, we just got what we paid for. However, we will look for another hotel if we pass by the area again. read more

Yeah this is going to be interesting. Came in at 2:00 am. Got to our rooms with the key and to our surprise the room had not been cleaned from the last guest staying there by housekeeping which was odd. I had never had that happen before. It was clear the housekeepers hadn't come through to this room because the bed was all messy and there were bottles everywhere and the bathroom light was on? So I go downstairs and the night attendant was extremely apologetic and gave us a new room. I thank her for her hospitality. The rooms are a bit outdated but I've been in worst. Yeah the state penn is right across the way but no one is going to be breaking out of there soon guys come on grow up. It did have a shinning movie feeling to it and I suggest they do a major remodel and update. I'm just a little worried about the bugs I've seen so far. read more

Our room was listed for $159 per night but we got a discount and paid $71. I thought it's huge deal until I checked in my room. The first room we had has dents on desk, stained and smelly carpet, very old towels and wrinkled bedding. Then we got changed to a different room, it's not much better but at least it smells good. We've used Ramada before and had great experiences, but this experience was honestly just horrid. When we got in, it looked great. Lovely inside, the pool and Jacuzzi were right outside our door, inside the hotel. Unfortunately, the pool and Jacuzzi were ice cold, so our four year-old son, who had been looking forward to swimming after a long car ride, wasn't even able to do that. As we were all starting to fall asleep, we heard loud banging noises from the main hotel area, and called the front desk. We were told there was a birthday party (this was around 11 pm). My husband was dumbfounded, and asked the woman on shift if she could do something about it (it had been going on for at least 10 minutes, sporadically). There is a restaurant attached to the hotel. My husband went for coffee this morning, and was gone for 20 minutes. It apparently took them that long to refill the coffee, or just get some from the restaurant part of the hotel. Never. Basic, but clean & comfortable! Bed felt brand new. Staff was super-friendly & helpful. There is a restaurant in the hotel (Country Kitchen) that was very good (steak was excellent, burger was good too, portions are generous), & the staff was amazing. The people in a nearby booth had several dietary restrictions, & the wait staff talked through everything with them & made a meal that worked well. We had been on the road & only napping in the car for the past 36 hours, & this Ramada & the restaurant was exactly what we needed for a 12 hour sleep, at a price we didn't lose sleep over! read more

Ramada, you are lucky that I am giving you two stars, because I hesitated when I first entered one star. This place is a dump! Everything is dirty, there are scattered pieces of furniture at laying around the parking lot, we were assigned a room in the interior part of the hotel, which I guess was just a parking lot converted into a auditorium area with a swimming pool in the middle, which creates tons of humidity and directly goes into your room with no way of removing the humidity. The air conditioner is a ventilation system that has not been maintenance in probably 10 to 20 years, because even setting the temperature low and the fan on high we could not bring the room below 73 degrees. Tacky carpeting and everything missed matched as far as the appearance of the room and hotel. Our key cards to the room barely worked, one did not work at all, and the other one you had to slide at least 3 to 5 times before a greenlight would open the door. The maids did not even bother finishing cleaning the room because there was a used soap bar sitting near the sink with and trash in every trashcan in the room. There were barely any free electrical outlets to plug our devices into. (I had to unplug a lamp just to free up an outlet to charge my portable speaker). I guess the only positive thing about our stay was the price was cheap probably due to COVID-19, and the coffee was decent in the morning. Other than that there's not much more I can say except you're better off staying at any other hotel or motel. read more

It's on par with many of the places that I have paid $100 or more dollars for a night. The management emphasized to contact them if there are any issues. Pitiful, pitiful hotel. For one thing, there are flies in the room and sometimes cockroaches in your bed. You're lucky if room service shows up at all. They can't print your boarding passes at the front desk--they say they don't know how. The restaurant is mediocre. There's peeling paint on the exterior. They can't help it that they have a view of Sterling State Penitentiary. But they could work a whole lot harder here. read more

This is an old run down motel. I could not stay in the first room assigned to me. The second room was better- I could see daylight around 3 sides of the door. June bugs had gotten inside through the bottom of door, holes in walls, chipped paint, worn out carpets, etc. I did manage to sleep. Would not stay here again. Near as we could tell, this is the cheapest place folks can stay when visiting the Sterling Correctional Facility, of which we had a lovely view. This is the rump of Sterling. Our stay at this hotel was the worst experience in any hotel I have ever had. The check in process took about a half an hour even though we already had a reservation. Once we got in our room, it was about 90 degrees in the room. When we asked about the issue, they said it couldn't be fixed and that we couldn't be moved at all. We made it work the first night, but when we got back the room was even hotter. When we talked to the front desk again, they were only able to give us a box fan. We requested some kind of refund or compensation, but were told that management had to approve that so we would hear from them within 48 hours of our stay to resolve the issue. Now it is 5 days later and we have heard nothing and they will not let me speak to management directly. If I could put zero stars I would. Avoid this place at all costs! read more
