Had a friend attend this facility for severe depression. They didn't over medicate them which was good. Came out better than they were before. read more

This is a terrible place - do not send your loved ones here! My 91 yr old father was sent there to manage his dementia meds. Not only did he get worse, he was also hospitalized 3x while there in the span of 6 wks. The third and final time he never returned and he died shortly after. He aspirated food while being fed and developed pneumonia. The administration, social worker, and drs do not return phone calls and are never available. His treatment plan changed regularly because they couldn't figure it out. There was a man crawling all over my father's bed that did not even have a sheet on it while we were visiting him. He was so over medicated that the hospital had to wean him off most of the meds he was placed on. It is a horrible place - they should be investigated and shut down. read more

My brother was hospitalized (voluntarily) at Ramapo Ridge for a psychiatric evaluation. With no formal diagnosis, my brother was drugged with 3 heavy psychiatric drugs, no one on one therapy and placed in a dementia unit. He wasn't allowed a book, a tablet, a phone. Nothing. Two of the three staff psychiatrists determined that he did not have dementia and shouldn't be on the drugs. It took numerable emails and phone calls to Christian Health management including the CEO, Medical Director, VP of Mental Health, Heads of Social Services and Nursing to get him out of this hellhole. And he lost 17 pounds in 40 days. Ramapo Ridge drugs patients, they don't treat them. Don't ever let one of your loved ones go there. They should have their license revoked. And I have reported them to the New Jersey Department of Health. read more

My husband was supposed to be there 2 weeks. He had alzheimer's and needed medication. For paranoua. 2 weeks turned into twelve weeks. I was only permitted to visit 1 hour in the morning and one hour in the evening. They could not get his medications for paranoia to work. I told the nursing staff he was in distress two days in a row. His belly was distended. I was ignored. On the third day they did a routine blood test and sent him to the emergency room. He was in acute kidney failure and severe malnutrition. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the shape he was in. Nothing but skin and bones. He was only 70 yrs old. My husband died after 10 days in the hospital. He was not responding to any treatment, and I thought it best to stop his suffering and use hospice. read more

Disgusting. A family member of mine had voluntarily chose to seek help for depression and they automatically made her stay for days. How do you expect someone to seek help when they are afraid you are going to force them to stay and take pills? Staff is absolutely rude. They keep patients away from speaking to family members. Refuse to give information on what medication they are giving your loved one and treat it more like a jail than a help facility. I had to call the Police to find out if my loved one was in their care or not. I will be seeking action with the board. This treatment would drive anyone to act even more depressed. Imagine all your freedom and rights taken away from you for seeking help voluntarily? Shame on the staff. In my opinion it's all about the money. This is just my opinion and experience. Lots of reviews get filtered or removed for little things like stating something as fact (they do this to hide the bad reviews) so I'm making clear this is my experience and opinion only. read more

Horrible. My husband was a patient in 2017, hospitalized for depression and suicidal thoughts. Doctors rarely spoke to patients except to prescribe medication and bully them into acting positive. The psychiatrist in charge of my husband's case released him saying he was all talk and no action. He killed himself a month later. The psychiatrist was informed but never called or contacted me to express sympathy. My husband complained of tooth pain, was dismissed as exaggerating for attention. Turned out he had an abscess and cracked tooth that had to be extracted. read more

Never ever send any of your loved ones to this horrible place. I was placed in the wrong unit(geriatric unit) I did not belong there. A patient came into my room and tried to attack me. I tried to call my family to come and get me. My son came to this place and no one would answer the phone or door. The psychiatric unit was no better. I finally met with a social worker who told me that I didn't belong there. She helped me sign a paper to have me released in 48 hours. Prisoners in jail are treated better than this place. read more

Awful. My 82 year old mother was sent her following a brief hospital stay. She is a dementia patient and we were told she was being evaluated. She was over -drugged and abused both physically and mentally. She was covered in bruises and they told us she fell. The Drs were MIA and incompetent. I wouldn't bring my dog here. If there was an option for 0 stars I would have selected that. read more

A dude threw a trashcan at a pregnant woman. He'd scream all night about how he was going to kill someone and junk. And when I say all night I mean ALL night. No one could sleep. They locked him in a solitary confinement room and strapped him to the bed so he'd only get angrier. Rumor has it that he punched a hole through the closet in that room. But it was okay because they'd let him walk around unsupervised during the day so he could freak out more. And then the hospital gave this kid some medication that didn't work with his epilepsy so he ended up seizing until his heart quite literally stopped beating and he stopped breathing. Don't know what happened to him after that. I hope he's okay but I don't know because we never saw him again. Then there was this girl who used the metal part of her drugstore surgical mask to cut up her wrists. So naturally, they threw her in solitary and she screamed all night about how she was going insane. So my point is that Ramapo Ridge likes to do things that put their patients in more danger then they already were in. Tbh I sometimes have hard flashbacks to those days. Real traumatic for everyone. If you ever have to go here, just pretend to be better until you get out and then go find an actual ward. Good luck, soldier. ​ read more

The last place I wanted to be was in a psych hospital! The four days I spent there was anything but a vacation. I have to say though, my experience was good.....as good as it could be. The staff was very professional and caring. I don't know about longer care there or for elderly patients, but for my situation, I'm glad I ended up there. Definitely recommend. read more

They are always short staffed! Not enough staff to take care of your dear family members. Patients fall and break legs, doctors see patients only for about 1-2 minutes. Staff is very dismissive and not concerned with true healing. Disappointed. read more

This place is awful for an elderly dementia patient. Our relative was sent there for a "dementia evaluation", which is a joke. There has been no evaluation, just a continuation of medications that were tried previously and were unsuccessful. The medication is not even recommended for elderly dementia patients in the first place. I find it very sad that these people are forced to be isolated from their loved ones to make it more convenient for the staff. I think that any elderly confused person needs to be surrounded by their loved ones. It is like sending them to jail here. The staff is unfriendly and rude. Stay away if you can. read more

My mother was sent here from a local nursing home for evualtion and medication protocol to treat her worsening Alzheimer's symptoms. This place was so bad on all levels! Her care there was a joke, after spending (3) weeks there the only changes to her medications were changing her blood pressure medication from a $3.00 monthly generic she had taken for years to a higher price formulary drug. Medications for mood disorder and anxiety remained the same, when my sister put pressure on them to release her back to the nursing home and to share her medical plan they sent her to St. Joseph's ER saying she had pneumonia which the hospital never diagnosed. They actually shipped her off via ambulance without her dentures, medical paper work or advance directive, then just called and left a message on a phone my sister had told them numerous times was inactive. Then they said they were not responsible for discharge documents for her return to the NH that the hospital would have to complete them. Our family was kept or limited from visiting, my sister would arrive after work and it would take 45 minutes to bring her to the visiting area leaving only 30-45 minutes of time left during visiting hours to visit. Once they even brough out the wrong patient!!! I traveled from NC and sat for over an hour for the aide to bring my mom out and then was told she was to agitated to have visitors. I explained I had traveled 9 hours to see her and asked to discuss what was going on with her nurse, since I was just there two days before and she was ok. After waiting another hour I was told the nurse was too busy to speak with me, I sat and watched her nurse work on paperwork 15 feet from me and he wouldn't give me 5 minutes of his time. My mother left there one month ago and we still haven't gotten any documentation on her care there. Stay away from this place if your loved one is a dementia patient!! read more
