My wife (Ada) had her second cataract surgery at the center, and the treatment and care were outstanding both times. From the receptionist Erica to the Pre-OP Rn Kate and Micko all are compassionate and caring. Maria was fabulous and her Post-Op Rn Micah is the best. Kudos to Dr Gordon the anesthesiologist. 3.5 We had a pretty good experience here, with mostly friendly staff and good communication. There was an issue with billing that needed to be corrected but unfortunately it seems par for the course in Healthcare settings. Some of the nurses and assistants wete friendlier and more careful than others. Lots of waiting once you actually get in from the general waiting area...perhaps no way to avoid this based on how many people they schedule on the window. They also have a little snack and coffee area downstairs where you can make a coffee (though it was broken today). The parking lot is big and easy to navigate. read more

I had second cataract surgery on July 9, 2025 Ramapo Valley Surgical Center. The surgical team that works together are amazing. Receptionist Riana was very professional, friendly and sweet. My preoperative registered nurse Micah, was so sweet to me very knowledgeable and professional. OR RN Micko sorry I don't remember you I was loopy from the Valium, but I'm sure you did a great job. Thank you. OR Jared once again I was loopy from the Valium thank you for your service. RN Micah, wonderful professional, friendly made me feel very comfortable, and anesthesiologist, Dr. Gordon I believe his first name is Robert. Very caring. And Dorta postoperative registered nurse who was there with my first eye surgery. She is my beautiful Polish nurse, beautiful girl very professional. Sorry if I left anyone out but Rampo Valley Surgical Center is the best place anyone would want to go to. I was amazed at the teamwork. Dr Andrew Spinak, my surgeon thank you for letting me see beautiful vibrant colors again. I feel like I have the eyes of a 20-year-old since my cataract surgery. I would strongly encourage anyone thinking of having a surgical or medical procedure at Ramapo Valley Surgical Center in Ramsey, NJ to think twice about your decision, as the nurses do not practice adequate post-procedure pain control or after-care - nor do the doctors and anesthesiologists care about your pain control when the lack of it is brought to their attention. After having combination eyelid / eyebrow surgery there in late March 2017, I was told that I could not have any more pain control medication right after the surgery even though my eyes and eyebrows were on fire with the pain from multiple sets of incisions and stitches. Only after I made a big deal about the fact the medication was not addressing the pain (and kept complaining about the fact that the pain was up to an "8") did the male nurse suddenly reverse himself and give me a little bit more medication through my IV. Before that, he just told me "the doctor will speak to you." This dose into the IV did bring the pain under control temporarily, although the same nurse informed me it would wear off shortly. No patient in a surgical center should have to beg, plead and practically make a scene in order to receive adequate pain medication; it's humiliating, medically inadvisable because people's heart rates shoot up when they are in pain, and also completely unnecessary if they just listen to you and adjust their actions to what you're experiencing. Having never taken any recreational drugs in my life and being a complete non-drinker and non-smoker, you would have thought the all-male nursing staff would have focused a little more on pain control here -- especially because on the Pre-Surgery Anesthesia Questionnaire I prominently indicated that I had always been anesthesia-resistant, and I also made a big point of it during the verbal pre-surgery consult with the two anesthesiologists - one of whom kept trying to brow-beat me into using hand veins when they couldn't find a good vein in my arm even though I told him there were multiple strictures there preventing me from using hand veins. It's that kind of a place, where they just don't give a damn about the patients; only their own egos, ease and convenience. As the final coup de grace, instead of providing two regular ice bags for what the male nurse knew would be the hour-plus-long Uber home after the surgery, the Ramapo Valley Surgical Center was so cheap that this nurse filled two plastic surgery gloves to the maximum with crushed ice, tied them together and told me to use that instead. The large, tied-together surgical gloves bulging with a huge amount of crushed ice proved to be too heavy for the surgical wounds regardless of the position on my eyes and could not be used for more than a second or two to relieve the swelling, causing additional unnecessary pain on the ride home and defeating the entire purpose of using ice bags post-surgery. The Ramapo Valley Surgical Center may look like a pleasant, OK, competent place because it's located in a modern office building in an upscale suburb of New Jersey, but you should try to have your surgery anyplace else in either New Jersey or New York rather than have to beg and plead for adequate pain medication or light- or medium-weight ice packs that are not made out of heavily-weighted, overstuffed surgical gloves that someone tries to save a few dollars with. read more

Today, I had an injection for low back pain and this was my first visit to RVS and it was a smooth run from beginning with Meredith who checked me in... Didn't wait very long at all. Then a nurse Natasha came to get me and set me up which was smooth. Everyone who walked by me asked me if I as cold or if I was comfortable. Those little things mean a lot to me in a setting like that. I was very comfortable. James is the nurse who met me when it was time to get dressed and leave.. he as very nice also. The anesthesiologist Dr. Gordon was a nice guy too.. funny guy who had a sense of humor and made you feel comfortable especially coming from a guy who really does have your life in his hands. Dr. Robinson was nice too, explaining what he was going to do during procedure. It was a good experience from beginning to end. read more

I had a very poor experience here. While completing pre-surgery paperwork, the receptionist, curt from the beginning, asked me who was with me. I'd taken an Uber there and planned on taking one home. When I told her this, she dropped her pen and repeated, "No. No. You can't do that." She told me someone had to bring me and return me home. I was already there, so that was out the window. I told her that I could have my son--who was studying for a test--pick me up and I called him IN FRONT OF HER. She decided that was not good enough, that he had to personally appear in front of her before I would be medically treated. When informed of this, I told her that I was going to leave. I wasn't going to be treated like a misbehaving child. She got another worker who then changed the rules again and told me they now needed to personally speak with my son on the telephone. At that point, i decided I wasn't going to be treated with suspicion by two rude incompetents, and be embarrassed in front of an entire waiting room of people. I left and Ubered it back home without being treated and $50 poorer. If I could give ZERO stars, I would. read more
