(I actually can't even speak for the rest of the campground, but why would you want to camp there when you could be on an ISLAND) You have to boat out and that ended up being the biggest challenge for us. Year One was alright, we rented a canoe from the campground and were able to comfortably make it out there with 2 people and our camping equipment. Year Two, in an effort to save money (the cost of the canoe for each day was higher than the cost of the campsite) we borrowed a canoe from a friend but also had 4 people to get out there. The water was ridiculously choppy during the time we were there and it was actually kind of scary with the amount of weight we had in the canoe. Anyway, scary boat rides aside, the trip was awesome. The island sites are spaced so far apart that you might as well be on your own private island. I would recommend planning accordingly with the boats and if needed they do rent them, but be sure to book ahead!

Fall Back Who knew a…read morerest area could be a "must-stop" if one ever finds themselves on a roadie to Rangeley, but yet here we are. Rest areas are usually for stretching, picnicking, and pooping (not necessarily in that order fwiw), and while this place certainly allows for all of the above, it's the nature that makes this a top-notch hiking spot, as well. The Good: *Several pit toilets (don't look down) *Picnic tables *Parking lot isn't huge but it's ample enough. *Series of small cascading water falls with trails along the edges and access to the water. I'm honestly not sure how far back the trails go, but by the time I got to the top it looked like you could keep going for a bit. *Great spot for leaf-peeping The Meh: *The road around the lot is gravely, so don't drive too fast or you'll kick up rocks. The Ugly: *Those pit toilets are...0_o *Yelp Mods who can't read a map to save their lives. I've already had them adjust the pin on here several times and they never get it right--there's LITERALLY A PIN on the map that says "Small Falls Rest Area" and they just stick it in arbitrary places. I'm pretty sure they're fucking with me at this point. 0_o Conclusion: If you find yourself in Rangeley Maine or thereabouts, then be sure to add this place to your list of things to see.

This lodge is a picture postcard of New England, surrounded by beautiful mountains, and only a quick drive to a small park with a waterfall that looks straight out of a vacation video. One drawback is the cold weather. It legit snows here straight through May. But, if you love to snowmobile, ATV and/or dirtbike, this place may have the longest season in the country. One thing that is NOT "picturesque" is the main road that runs right through the center of Colebrook. It is a main highway frequented by 18 wheelers carrying goods across the country. Stephen King's sister lives, or lived, here and I think this might be the road featured in pet Sematary. THE DEAL: if you love the quiet of the mountains, Colebrook is your kind of town, and the Bear Rock Suites is the best place to stay in it. Simply stay off the main highway for video-worthy views!

Even the towels looked and felt very old. The room was very small, stale & dark. BAR: There is a bar on site, which attracts some of the locals...but didn't entice me. THE DEAL: For $100+, it's a rip-off.

(I was thinking about buying a truck and MC is definatley Chevy Silverado territory.) Comfy mattress for a great nap. And probably the one time of year where an AC window unit was a must. MC was a great retreat at the start of Covid. I would consider going back to complete the circle after its all over. Owners were great and helpful and not overly attentive.

They've thought of everything and their pride comes through in how everything is maintained. Private and common area in back which is very pleasant.
