    miso ramen
    Elsie Z.

The ramen here is so so. The broth was very salty and that made it hard to enjoy. My miso ramen itself rang up to $20.33 which is extremely expensive for a food court style place. Need I say, I won't be coming back and I would probably pick other food stalls over this one.

This place does Yokohama style ramen. Original ramen was so so. The chashu tasted below average, as was the stock which wasn't very complex. The saltiness of the stock wasn't accompanied by the usual umami richness. Spicy cod roe & mayo rice bowl didn't seem to have mayo & tasted below average. It was mainly salty.

We walked in at around ~7 pm on a Saturday and it was looking busy - however, we were seated pretty quickly given there was only 2 of us. Lots of seating inside for different groups, and I appreciate how there was some bar seating that accommodated single patrons. We ordered takoyaki and 2 ramen - I had the regular Tori Paitan while my partner had the God Fire (level 2). You had the option to customize your bowl from beginning to end - from softness of the noodles, saltiness of the broth, extra toppings - this place really reminded me of the local ramen spots we went to when we were in Japan. Despite how busy the restaurant was, the food came out quick!! Takoyaki was delicious and piping hot. The broth for both ramen came out very flavourful and I will say - while my partner loves spicy food and I do not... I cannot imagine what level 4 would taste like, level 2 definitely had a kick! The staff were amazing and navigated a small space so well. We really enjoyed our dinner - we were in and out within an hour. I'll definitely be coming back and would highly recommend!

You can also get some side dishes and added toppings. Space is a decent size, and there's individual seating as well if you come here alone. It's a great place to come and talk as well, because it's not a loud atmosphere. And the service is amazing! Servers are very attentive, refilling your water and check in to make sure your table is doing well. They also hand out punch cards where you can earn toppings or items based on the number of bowls you get.

The place fills up quite fast and the seating is minimal. I ordered the cold ramen and it was delicious. Therể was still so much flavour even after being chilled. Perfect for the hot weather!

My friend had the King of Kings as our server said this is one of their most popular choices. I opted for the Spicy Charsu. Now I understand some people can't handle heat but I live off of Purple Tongue hot sauce which is made with some pretty hot peppers. I asked for a level one and the lady explained that the spice level on the Charsu was a whole series of levels higher than the King of Kings. I get that . Give me the heat. Anywho, she was comfortable with giving me 0.5 but said I could make it hotter if need be. Ok, better to start smaller I guess. They put some sauce on the side which I added to my bowl. Personally I found the 0.5 a nice tingle; it was good. Made my nose run. But I'm totally getting the level 1 next time. My friend however tried a sip of my broth, spit it out and said poison poison because of the heat Mind you, his King of Kings was a level 1. Which to me tasted creamy and delicious. I love a good pork bone soup and I opted for the Spicy Charsu because of the pork bone base. I loved the broth. It was perfection. The noodles were so fresh . The portion size was enormous. I kept eating and more noodles appeared. The Charsu had an amazing flavor to it . Smoky and delicious . My friend is a larger man and even he commented on the portion size saying he would be ok with a smaller size as he was so full. Good portions for your money. We also had the Gyoza and the TakoYaki. The TakoYaki was soft and loaded with the delicious sauce. The Gyoza were enormous. We were both 100% satisfied with our visit and will be back for sure.

The concerned server told me that it may be painful, but being the chili head that I am, I gladly took on the challenge. It was a larger bowl than their regular size and my ramen came topped with lots of corn, some mushrooms, bean sprouts and 6 large pieces of chasu. The broth was magma red, but it was not as spicy as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, it was spicy but not to the point where it would warrant a warning. The spicy broth tasted like a mix of Buldak sauce and Capsaicin, but didn't have much depth. I finished my ramen, broth and all and enjoyed most of the experience. The least favorite was the chasu and the egg as chasu did not taste fresh, and I could not taste the char on them at all. The egg was over-cooked and under marinated which was disappointing. It's still one of the few ramen options in Durham but can't say it's comparable to the other Kenzo locations.

I've…read morebeen disappointed by countless bowls over the years, from Michelin-recommended shops in New York to overhyped social media darlings that make you wonder whether the people promoting them have ever had truly great tonkotsu ramen. Konjiki is good, far from great, but very solid. The broth has the right consistency with a satisfying richness, falling just a touch short of the deep, creamy intensity I personally look for. The noodles were cooked perfectly, maintaining just the right amount of bite. Nothing ruins a bowl of ramen faster than overcooked noodles. The soft-boiled egg was equally well executed, with a perfectly jammy center, and the chashu had excellent flavor and texture. My biggest criticism isn't what's missing....it's what's added. Like many ramen shops outside Japan, Konjiki includes pickled ginger, pickled takana, and braised bamboo shoots. For me, none of them improve the bowl. In fact, I think they distract from what should be the star of the show: the broth. In hindsight, I could have easily asked for them to be left out, but I've never really understood why they're included in the first place. Even so, this is a very respectable bowl of tonkotsu ramen and one I'd happily order again.

Initially looked busy and thought there may be a wait, but the line was actually for the dessert place that shares the same entrance. I usually switch up my order between the Clam Ramens (shio and shoyu). Can definitely say that these are always made consistent (at least on every visit I've had), so there's no surprise. My friend ordered the Avocado Vegetarian Ramen as part of a set. We were both intrigued by the taste of the broth. It was creamy, but not super thick, and had a fresh, vegetal taste. One miss this time was that my friend ordered a drink, but unfortunately it did not come out at all while we ate. We mentioned it when asking for our bill and asked that it just be cancelled, which the server was apologetic about. Interior is kept clean, which some table seating along both walls and also a long high-top bar (communal) in the middle. There's isn't any parking designated to the restaurant, but there's options for paid street parking a short walk away.

The black garlic ramen, veggie gyoza and Takoyaki were all savoury and fantastic. The portion sizes for price were appropriate and I ended up taking some of it home. They're all beautiful dishes on the plate. Service was friendly and quick, we were greeted, seated and served within minutes of walking in. Soon after we sat down, the restaurant filled up with other patrons which is a good sign. However I also judge a restaurant based on its cleanliness and the washrooms leave much to be desired. If a restaurant's washrooms aren't clean, it gives you a window into how dirty the kitchen and back of house are. The washrooms are in a serious need of a cleaning. There is black filth on the white doors, everything has a bit of a grime covering multiple surfaces. Overall, the food is delicious, I would return but maybe for take-out next time.
