If you are a San Diego hiker and haven't done this hike- WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR???…read more And for those of you who see these photos and think damn I need to go do that, please be aware of the temperature because it is dangerously hot down there at lower temperatures than in other areas. The hike goes down into a canyon and the heat settles down there. Even if it's not as hot as you think coming up can be extremely dangerous. Every year I hear about somebody dying from heat stroke on that hike so don't take it lightly. I always check the weather on the actual trail using the AllTrails app. I saw that the weather out there was max 65° that day and I was like hell yeah. The hike really isn't that difficult, 3 miles down and then 3 miles back up. Lots of nice switchbacks, and there are a few sun shelters for shade. The views are gorgeous all along the trail. I've done this hike, probably 20 times over the years. It's the best in the spring and in the fall. In the winter it's way too cold. The reward for this hike is the gorgeous rock bowl and waterfall that the locals call Devils Punchbowl. This past Thursday when we did this hike, there were a lot of young folks at the Punchbowl when we got there. Some of the guys were climbing up and jumping into the water. I would not recommend it, even if the waterfall is still flowing that water is not safe to swim in. In the fall, the waterfall doesn't flow anymore after being dried out over the brutal summer, but the trees at the bottom of the canyon turn a beautiful gold color. One of the few places in San Diego you can actually experience fall.

The mountain views were indescribable. Pictures do not due it justice. The roads were a little scary, narrow with big drop-offs on one side. I'm glad I wasn't driving lol! If you get the chance to check it out, I highly recommend you do! If you want to hike, be sure to use proper shoes and bring sunscreen and lots of water.

It was just challenging enough to feel like we earned it, but was still enjoyable. We had a picnic on the top and the whole peak to ourselves for a picnic as the clouds rolled in below. Make a plan before you go, many areas have a parking fee, easily payable online. AllTrails lists a lot of trails in the area that I've bookmarked for hikes this Fall/Winter. I stay towards the beach more in the summer months, but I look forward to updating this review when I explore new parts of this beautiful forest!

The views of the bay, ocean, beaches and city are spectacular. The Visitors Center is packed with historical information about the landing of the first European, explorer Juan Cabrillo, at the bay. Naturalists offer special programs throughout the day about wildlife and other features of Point Loma. We saw a gopher snake during our visit. An overlook at the site offers explanation of ships and sea life that can be observed from the point. We found plenty of nearby parking at the Visitors Center. A short walk from the visitors center is a massive statue of Juan Cabrillo, the first European explorer to set foot on what is now San Diego Bay in 1592. The statue was created by sculpture Al Varo De Bree of Lisbon in 1939. We took photos by the statue. Old Point Loma Lighthouse is another prominent feature of the Monument. The lighthouse was one of the first lighthouses commissioned on the west coast of the U.S. During low tide, tide pools, on the north west side of the park, offer visitors a glimpse of ocean wonders. You can see sea-life up close. The tide was high during our visit, but I will return to check out the pools. Numerous trails lead up and down the point. The trails are somewhat steep, but offer spectacular views of the ocean and bay. Plan at least a four hour visit. Bring water and snack. Hiking stick is useful if you want to hike. Bathing gear is handy if you want to explore the tide pools. Go mid week to avoid the crowds. Wear hat and sunscreen. We found plenty of parking.

It was a bright, shiny day. We were surprised by how few people were there…read more It was going to be DOWN DAY, but my Partner suggested going to the CABRILLO National Monument. As for me, it was all a surprise. We had an amazing time at the Cabrillo National Monument, beginning at the lower level. We spent about 15 MINUTES there, on the nice bench!!! I would like to thank them for having a disabled parking spot amongst their parking spaces. We then drove up to the LIGHTHOUSE. I was dropped off, and Gonzalo parked down below. We saw something for the very first time, lots and lots Military Helicopters flying by from North Island. I then walked around the mini Museum and Lighthouse. It was then off to the Juan Rodriquez Cabrillo Statue. It was particularly windy up there, and we loved it. It had turned into a nice day, even though it was meant to be a DOWN DAY. We started at Starbucks, moved to CABRILLO NM, and ended up at Poma Delicatessen. We were surprised the most by how few people were there at the CNM. I was at the Juan Rodriquez Cabrillo Statue, and there were ZERO PEOPLE. Indeed, there were more military helicopters than people!!!

We stayed at the Legoland Castle hotel for the first time recently and we had a fantastic time…read more When you go to book the hotel you'll notice that it is a little bit on the pricier end (Though it is still cheaper than staying in a Disneyland hotel and it provides more!) We went back-and-forth with if we wanted to stay there and pay that cost, or if we should stay at another local hotel for our visit. We are glad that we stayed at the hotel. Though the price is high, they provide a lot of great entertainment and things for the children to do right within the hotel. Also, the theming for the hotel is so cool for kids. We loved that there were two separated spaces for adults and kids. We ate at the hotel as well for breakfast and dinner. The food was good enough. It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad at all.

It pains me to write this review as we Love this hotel, but stay away from the 3rd floor especially…read morerooms facing the park as they have air conditioners right outside the windows . Also since they removed the carpeting sounds from whatever maintenance machines inside tend to be loud all the time. The front desk is pretty much useless in solving this for you so please don't make the mistake we did. What is usually a great trip has been rough due to this setup. Advice - call and book the rooms furthest away from elevator and air conditioners. *we chose these rooms since they were remodeled and had a new theme. So not worth it. The rest of the hotel experience remains fun and exciting.
