It's not as structured and stricked as other studios, but just enough to keep the class under control and focused. This is our daughters first time doing any kind of martial arts and she was very intimidated about joining at 13 but she quickly got over it. Jon's daughters are also part of the class and made her feel very welcomed. I love that it's not competitive and the focus is truly on teaching the kids how to defend themselves and good form. If you are in the Escondido area you have to check this place out, my only regret is not starting years ago!! There is a great energy coming from the mats and it all starts with the owner/professor Michael and the other experienced students. I have been welcomed and encouraged with a friendly, positive atmosphere even though this a "no frills" style of jiu jitsu. I feel that even when class is full, I still get the instruction and attention I need as a newer white belt. Safety and cleanliness are top priorities at this gym which was very important to me. Well you're in luck because you found a great spot to fulfill both of these desires. Impact Martial Arts is a very well rounded program. My son is in the Tigers 3-6 year old class The class starts with a warm-up and talk about the word of the day (whether it's discipline, respect ,etc.) Then they work on form and technique and work on different types of strikes with their hands and feet. Then the last half of class they focus on weapon training. They typically have two 30 minutes classes per week. They offer classes every day including Saturday. Our son has been doing it for 3 months now and loves it. It's really helped hmm him with his confidence and learning to speak up and speak louder. So far I'm very happy with this place. We are glad we chose Taekwondo because it incorporates hand strikes , kicking and weapons and seems well rounded. It definitely keeps his interest and attention and that's what we were looking for. Our son has been going here for a few months now and it's been great. I would definitely recommend this place

I like the lessons being taught, especially about finding good friends. My daughter had so much fun, especially kicking the board and mom using the pool noodle to test out her defense training. If we were local to Poway and the San Diego area still, I'd definitely look into signing my daughter up for some classes.
