I can't say enough great things about Impact Martial Arts Self Defense! My daughter has only been training here for about three months, but the difference has been incredible. She is so much more confident, stronger, more disciplined, and always excited to go to class. It's been amazing to watch her grow in such a short time. Mrs. Stacey is an amazing instructor. She's patient, caring, and truly takes the time to help every child learn and improve. You can tell she genuinely loves working with the kids. Mr. Hoa is awesome too! I hold this establishment in high regard, having been a member since I was three and a half years old. It is here that I achieved the distinction of becoming a world champion, which remains a proud accomplishment for me. The instructors at this institution have had a profound impact on my life, instilling in me a strong sense of discipline and the ability to defend myself. As a result of my upbringing in this environment, I have adopted the practice of addressing others as "sir" or "ma'am." Although I do not attend as frequently now, I make an effort to visit when my sister has her classes. We tried out Impact Martial Arts after my 6yo daughter watched Mulan and wanted to learn how to use a sword. My daughter was immediately hooked. She's always been bright, but also timid and not very physically active. After 10 months, she has shown drastic growth in her confidence, discipline, and leadership skills. The teachers here are so great and really know how to motivate the kids in a fun and positive way. There's also a really great sense of community with special events, parties, summer camp. I'm sure you are here because you can't figure out what type of martial arts to put your kid in... or you're trying to find a good Taekwondo spot. Well you're in luck because you found a great spot to fulfill both of these desires. Impact Martial Arts is a very well rounded program. My son is in the Tigers 3-6 year old class The class starts with a warm-up and talk about the word of the day (whether it's discipline, respect ,etc.) Then they work on form and technique and work on different types of strikes with their hands and feet. Then the last half of class they focus on weapon training. They typically have two 30 minutes classes per week. They offer classes every day including Saturday. Our son has been doing it for 3 months now and loves it. It's really helped hmm him with his confidence and learning to speak up and speak louder. So far I'm very happy with this place. We are glad we chose Taekwondo because it incorporates hand strikes , kicking and weapons and seems well rounded. It definitely keeps his interest and attention and that's what we were looking for. We attended a party here and Ms. Stacey was excellent! She was great with the kids. Very welcoming, and remembered each and every child's name at the party and there was approximately 20 children. All the kids had such a good time! I like the lessons being taught, especially about finding good friends. My daughter had so much fun, especially kicking the board and mom using the pool noodle to test out her defense training. If we were local to Poway and the San Diego area still, I'd definitely look into signing my daughter up for some classes. read more

We just had my son's 5th birthday party here, and it was a hit! The instructors were great with the kids and they had a blast! The party package includes almost everything you would need: pizzas and water for the kids, decorations, goodie bags for the kids, tables and chairs for kids and guests, table cloths, plates, silverware, napkins, hand sanitizer. They do all the set up and take down/clean up. All you need to do is show up with a cake, and extra food/drinks for the parents. The party package says unlimited guests, but you do have to take into consideration that the place is not huge. We had 16 kids and 25 adults. I couldn't really wrap my head around how we would fit everyone until I saw how they set up the space. There's some seats inside for parents to watch the kids. They set up a food table behind those seats. Then there's another table and chairs outside just for the kids. It was nice outside so it was not an issue to have some parents hanging outside during the party because not everyone could sit. However, if any of the parents wanted to watch, they could just stand up inside or take their shoes off and sit in one of the corners of the mat. My son got to wear a black belt during the party, cut his cake with a real sword, and break a board. You can order extra pizzas if you want, they're Costco pizzas and it's the same price that you would pay at Costco. So I just added a few extra to feed the parents, which makes life so much easier if you've ever had to pick up pizzas from Costco around lunch time! You can also buy extra boards if you want the other kids to break boards too. I would recommend booking this place at least one month ahead of time. We recently had my kids birthday party here. Around 20 kids were there and all of them enjoyed the 30 minute session. Instructor who was conducting the session was patient and funny with the kids. They provided all the stuff required to host and feed the guest so it was less hassle planning. Will definitely consider enrolling my child here. read more

Location: convenient, easy and plenty of parking, next to major shopping and businesses. Pricing: fair Best: very accommodating and flexible hours, dedicated passionate instructors who teach not only the Taekwondo skills but also discipline, respect, dedication, confidence, listening skills. Very family oriented. Cons: the studio tries to encourage and push the kids a little bit for their commitment, therefore sometimes it feels like the Belt Test happens too quickly, even when we were not 100% ready. There are different levels of capability and commitment here. I feel like there should be two different levels: the participation belts to earn and the capability-commitment 110% belt to earn. My son wen to a birthday party here ages ago and brought up he was interested, and then COVID-19 happened. We tried ZOOM classes and my daughter ended up really liking it, but my son tapered off in interest. My daughter has gone through a few cycles and loves it, and now my son is on board as well! It is so nice to have a structured physical outlet for the kids since they are cooped up in the house all of the time otherwise. The outdoor classes are great and they follow very strict cleaning guidelines and do temperature checks, and masks are required. I can't say enough nice things about this school. My 6 year old son has been coming here about 6 or 7 months. He loves it and the staff are truly great. They do a terrific job with the kids, are amazing at positive reinforcement and work hard to foster a sense of community. My family always feels welcome. They focus a lot on character values and also on self defense in addition to the TKD curriculum. I'm so glad i found this school for my son. Long term, this school isn't cheap (I don't know how they compare to other TKD schools in the area) but it's been worth every penny so far. read more

Having studied martial arts in my younger years, I was looking for a great school to take my children to for training. I had asked many friends where they took their kids and looked around a lot. I was so impressed with Impact from the first phone call to get information on classes. They allow the kids to participate from the very first class to see if they like it. Mr. Ngyuen runs a fantastic school! The instructors are so good with kids and adults alike. Classes are fun, fast paced and my kids love it. I have also seen a great change in discipline at home as well. Impact Martial Arts Poway is an excellent martial arts studio. Not only is the taekwondo training outstanding, with several state and district champion students, but the patient instructors teach so much more. Impact Martial Arts teaches their students respect, self-disciple and leadership skills that will benefit them throughout their lives. Plus, their students have a great time training. In Addition, I've always been impressed with the way Impact Martial Arts supports our community. Each year the studio hosts community events like Trunk-or-Treat and school assemblies. As a parent and former elementary school foundation president, I'm also always impressed at how supportive the studio is in assisting elementary schools with fundraising. However, during this difficult time caused by the Corona virus, the studio has gone even further to support our community. They have been teaching all their classes live on Zoom and made them available to the community to take part. They even provided the studio's families with masks to protect them during this time. I don't know what other martial arts places are like but we love it at Impact. Mr. Nguyen and Ms. Stacy are great with the kids. We came in for a free trial and right away I was impressed with their emphasis on leadership and character building. Each session they have a different word they learn about whether it's discipline, honesty, belief. They teach self-control, self-defense, how to deal with bullies, and strangers. They often host camps and date night out. It is an investment for sure, but we found it to be a great place. read more

Although self-defense is generally what I think about when I hear "martial arts," this studio has gone way beyond that in the development of our children. I believe confidence is the #1 benefit that both of our children have gained from this program. Providing a chance for children to gain experience leading the class (with many students older than they are), teaching other students at a lower rank, and presenting their skills in front of the class or judges at graduation, provides a rare opportunity for any activity geared toward children. We have a 9 year-old boy who just became a 2nd degree black belt. He is a spirited, yet sensitive kid, and Mr. Nguyen has taken him under his wing and turned him into a champion, both in karate and in his life outside the studio. He'll compete in the world championships this month. Our 7 year-old daughter can be very shy, but she has gained self-confidence, strength and flexibility through this program. We've realized that Black Belt is a title that our kids will have for a lifetime. Long after they have forgotten a winning season in baseball or soccer, they will always remember the significance of becoming a black belt, and the confidence they gained will last a lifetime.
