Ordered online a Thule roofbox and had it shipped to the store. Website was great, easy to navigate and order. Fast delivery just as advertised. Once I arrived for pickup, I was directed by a cashier to the correct place, over in camping, she called over for me to verify my order was ready and I was greeted by two associates who walked me straight to my item for inspection and then offered to help me install it. I was very grateful for the help and said yes, I pulled my car right in front of the store and they were already walking out with it. Not only did they help me install it, they also showed me HOW to install it so I can do it myself in the future and also explained the features. Friendly, personal service that went above and beyond. Highly recommend. I wish I'd have asked for the employee names, because they really were great. read more

I had a wonderful experience in the Succasunna store yesterday. My visit was directly after chemo therapy and I was feeling a bit low. As i was wandering around busy employees were happy to help and provide guidance. One young lady really stood out.. Josie! she had given me guidance on one request, and then although she was busy and rushing around she saw me again and helped me, by taking the time to walk me across the store and pointing out the items I sought. so pleasant and professional. High quality gear that leaves you with a lighter wallet but absolutely no regrets about digging a little deeper for equipment that has stamina and longevity. Being out on a lake or in some desolate part of the southwest is no time to kick yourself in the ass for cheaping out on inferior hiking boots. This sporting goods store has just about anything you can think of. Camping, hiking, kayaking winter clothes and gear for those who crave the outdoors. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get what I came for, no fault of the establishment. Like the run on toilet paper and sanitizers left the supermarket shelves empty at the beginning of the pandemic. So has gun ammunition, and trying to locate any has become an Easter egg hunt. Finding a needle in a haystack would be easier. Nevertheless this place is one of my favorites to shop at being that it's close by. A wise old man once said "when the going gets tough, the tough go fishing". So instead of heading to the range for some trap and skeet shooting I'll head to the lake for some peace, tranquility and insults I'll be sending the fish under my breath when they don't bite. You guessed it, I lack patience! But the force is strong with this one and I shall persevere in my quest. Wish me luck. read more

Ive bought a bunch of things from here, including a new fisihing pole today. The staff here is usually really helpful, they sometimes seem strange or bothered maybe i don't know if that's the best word but its hard to describe but they're really friendly. They have a good selection of stuff. i love there fishing section, it really does have a lot to offer. You can also get your NJ state licenses here for fishing and hunting, just be aware that they only except cash for these. Also if your a NRA member you get a discount on things. 10% but i don't think its on guns or ammunition, which in my opinion is rather ironic but go figure. read more

Apparently you can't use coupons on sale items all of the sudden when I have been using them for the last 15+ years. Staff is rude and make it seem like a burden when you ask them for help (esp at the gun/ fishing license counter). Like supporting local businesses but will have to find another. read more

This is the letter I sent to the store. It serves as my review Hi, I'm not sure this is the correct forum but I wanted to share my experience with one of your employees. My husband, 6 month old daughter and I went to your store located in Succassuna NJ today to purchase a child carrier for hiking. We were met by a sales associate who was great but had limited knowledge. He asked for assistance from a fellow worker who goes by John the Bearded Wonder. Well I can see why they call him that. You see John was not only EXTREMELY knowledgeable but also kind and social. He helped us for over an hour take our daughter in and out of every carrier in your store. He showed us how to adjust every strap and adjusted and re-adjusted them over and over to help us find our perfect fit. He interacted lightheartedly with our daughter and never scoffed at my overzealous concerns about hip dysplasia and seated position of my daughter. He was able to give tips on how to wear the carrier accurately so my husband was most comfortable. John was so helpful, patient, kind, knowledgeable, and overall a pleasure to talk to. We ended up purchasing a carrier today. We feel confident and happy with our choice. Its all thanks to John. Please acknowledge his exceptional 'job well done' in some way. Thank you! read more

I am fortunate enough to live right between both the Ramsey location and the Paramus location, either one of which I'm not fan of. However if I had a choice, I would go to Ramsey. So one day I was in need of something and they didn't have it, they graciously called their other stores and it was off to the Roxbury Mall I went. Figured it would get me out of doing yard work disappearing for an hour or two. This place is night and day compared to the other two locations. It's bright, open, you know where things are when you walk right in. You're not banging into people, the floor space is terrific. It's honestly a shame it's not closer! read more

I don't know the history of this store, but I know it's been operating in this area for many years. The new location (over by the Home Depot in Roxbury) is great. It's much brighter and larger than the old location. I find the people who work there to be quite knowledgeable about outdoor activities. I spent about a half hour last night with a salesperson who was giving me some real good inside tips on backpacking. I spend time in other outdoor stores such as REI and Campmor so I have something to compare to. Both of those other stores I mentioned are great too, but Ramsey is located closest to my house. I like supporting a local "mom & pop" store. The prices are competitive and sometimes they have sales prices that hit pretty well below the belt. I have found an accidental bargain when I wasn't even looking. There's a reason this place has been in business for years and I hope they'll be around for many more. read more

Ramsey Outdoor is such a great store, huge selection. I have come in for one thing and ended up with a bunch of other cool stuff. I got my coal starter here, other grilling tools, they have these great long sticks for marshmallows so you don't have to burn your fingers..ha ha..The best purchase was my winter work boots. They have a great selection and the ones I bought are the best I have ever owned. I have had them for 3 years and they are still great! I always get the urge to do more outdoors activities when I come in. The staff and management all know what they heck they are talking about too, which is great. Excellent products and selection. Very fair pricing. As a kid I always assumed Ramsey Outdoor is some kind franchise. It seemed that way based on its size, stock and organization. I only learned it isn't when I randomly found my way to the website while trying to order a specific item online 2 months ago! Now, I'm fixated on this North Face my dad just gifted mom which he reportedly found at RO--and sure enough their price is (still) as good as any other retailer's--so I placed online order #2 today. I'm *thrilled* to order from a local business that's managed to A. stay competitive by selling at the same price point as any other bigger company and B. adapted quickly to changing times with a very mobile-friendly site and seamless online shopping experience. I come here often with my husband as he's a tech gear nerd. He's def shown me that some clothing is better based on it's function than the look. Overall just about anything you need for many outdoor activities you can find here. In general I find that a lot of it is ovepriced and you might do better online if you're willing to take last years design or a weird shade of moss green. Ramsey does often have a great clearance section the only downside is that because the discounts are so low all the good stuff gets snatched early and you're left with XS and XXL to choose from so if you're in the market for some clothing check back often. I've bought a pair or two of shoes here and wished I hadn't cuz I found them cheaper like a day later but whatever live and learn. For overall selection and shopping experience I'd give it 4 stars. read more

I've only been to this store to buy ammo, and sometimes that can take a while if there are other guy in the back looking at guns (which is understandable). However, the staff that works with the firearms are very friendly and helpful and the selection isn't half bad either read more

Came in Thursday to get set up with new fishing equipment and get my reel re strung Matt in the fishing department helped me and walked me through every step and even showed me new rods and explained every small detail and did everything to make sure I knew what I was doing. Very disappointing experience with their online store. I purchased a Petzl headlamp from their online store. Turns out, they didn't actually carry the headlamp they had advertised, so my order was cancelled. They never sent me a notice that my order was cancelled, so I just kept waiting for my headlamp to show up in the mail. After 2 weeks passed and it hadn't shown up, I sent them an email asking about it. I did not get a response. Days later I called and left a voicemail asking about it. I did not get a response. I called again the next day and finally talked to someone. He notified me that my order was cancelled. He apologized that I did not get the notice. I asked if there was anything the company could do to compensate for their 2 mistakes (1 - not having the product they advertised, and 2 - never sending me notice that my order was cancelled), and he offered me a lower quality headlamp for the same price as the one I'd originally ordered! Needless to say, I did not take him up on his unimpressive offer. Super frustrating! read more
