Let me start off by saying I've been going to Ramsey outdoors for over a decade. I've always received top quality customer service since I've been going there with the exception of today .I took my son and his friend there to get his fishing reels new lines. The guy took the the reels and proceeded to re-line the reels. After a few minutes, he started saying what a mess this is. Keep in mind. These are brand new reels that were never used. I told the guy that his response was somebody use these reels and I know for a fact nobody did cause I bought them brand new. We were there that seemed like an eternity. With this guy bitching and moaning and complaining finally when he was done ,my son and his friend went to pick up the reels and he said you better learn how to fish and how to use those reels. Otherwise you'll be back here again. Just to let you know I've been fishing for about 50 years and my son's been fishing for about 15 years. There is no need for him to say something like that if you're having a bad day stay home. I'm all about customer service and he doesn't know a damn thing about customer service. Buyer beware. This review is for an online purchase and rejected return. My husband is a Big and Tall man and he needed some base layer tights. I ordered several different pair from different places, returned them and had zero issues. But it was a totally different story here. Apparently they do not accept returns on underwear (which is fine) but I have never encountered base layer tights being considered a hygienic issue. But it's still fine if it was clearly indicated, but it was not. Additionally, they indicated that the tights didnt have any tags on them and I didn't include the original packaging. There was nothing special about the packaging. It was packaged in a plain bag with no tags attached. They were basically just tossed in the bag. I will never buy anything from them again and do not be surprised if they dont accept your return. read more

I've been trying to purchase a kayak for the past two weeks at the Succasunna location. Instead of supporting the big box stores I chose to support a local business. I've been to this location three times in the past two weeks but I continue to get ignored when trying to purchase a kayak. Initially I thought It was just me but yesterday I had my wife accompany me and the same results. I also walked over to the Patagonia section and all three woman in the section also ignored me as I looked at the hats near the small register area and they never asked if I needed any help. I went to the Ramsey store today to pickup a gun purchase. They had called me to tell me my NICS check was back. Upon arrival, Joe looked into the state system and advised that my permits had not been entered. I called Roxbury police who informed me that their part was done and that it was up to the state to complete. So, I could not pickup the gun. I departed very frustrated and was on my way to the state police barracks to see if they could help me. About 10 Minutes later Joe called me again and told me to come back that Benny went into the system and solved the issue with my permits. So, I went back and sure enough the problem was solved. If it were not for Benny I might have had a very tuff time trying to wade through a bureaucratic system to find the right person to solve this. He (Benny) took GREAT initiative by getting on the phone for me to solve the problem. I want to commend Benny for taking the time to make sure one of Ramseys customers was well taken care of. Thank-You Ramsey's for have such a great employee like Benny to serve your customers. In todays world were employers are finding it hard to even get people to come to work, you have an employee that is willing to go the extra mile to make a happy customer. Ramsey Outdoor Store is where  you want to go, if you are looking for excellent products and advice  regarding fishing, hunting, camping, canoeing and other activities.   Years ago, I received the best fishing advice I have ever received from  an employee in this fine store.  Far better than from some  professionals who have written books on fishing.  I went from  practically never catching a trout to limiting-out sometimes.  Also, the  staff have never tried to sell me anything that I did not need and have  always been very generous with their time.  They have always tried to  save me money and even referred me to another store one time, for a  purchase.  It reminded me of one scene I saw in the movie- "Miracle on  34th St."  That was a movie, but Ramsey Outdoor is real!  Also, the  employees are very generous with their time and go out of their way to  act as consultants to customers.  There have been so many staff members  who have been personable and true friends to customers, I have found  over the decades of my shopping.  You may find a lower price on some  items, at times, but no other store will provide the excellent advice  you will receive in this store.  They will help you find the right  product for the specific activity you are interested in, explain how to  used it, demonstrate proper usage of it and make sure that what you  purchase fits you personally.  I have not found such superior customer  service in any other sport shop ever.  Off hand, I can't think of any  other store of any kind with better customer service.  These people are  experts.  The names of staff members that I remember include Andros, Joe  and Jan.  The cashier and other staff are excellent, but I am sorry  that I cannot remember their names. More recently, the cashier whose initials are JLH was helpful, personable, polite and efficient.   "Bean"  was personable, helpful, knowledgeable, efficient, polite and  professional and so was the man who was sitting at the desk in the  camping department on 9 18 20 in the morning. 12 04 21 update:  The last two times I called this store, the employees were knowledgeable, polite, helpful, patient and professional.  One person's name that I remember was Lee! January, 2022: The employees continue to be very knowledgeable, personable, professional, helpful, patient and honest! This is the "small" Ramsey Outdoor. There are, or were, two much larger stores that have a far better selection of camping equipment, but unfortunately the Paramus store closed. There is still one in Succasunna. Despite its small size and limited selection of camping equipment. the selection is well thought out. And unlike Campmor, Ramsey Outdoor carries fishing and hunting equipment. In fact this location seems to focus on hunting and fishing more so than the other location. The staff is knowledgeable, but can be on the annoying side. If you tell them once you don't need help that should be enough. It's a bit much when they ask you every 5 minutes if you need any help. read more

Great customer service - until you need to return something. I purchased a bunch of stuff from Ramsey's Ledgewood location for Christmas. One item was duplicated and I wanted to return it. God forbid they track customer's purchases to make returns easy, but without a receipt the best they could is store credit. That was OK, but when they gave me nonsense about lowest price in their system, even though the item I was returning had the price tag still on it - I decided for the markup most items have here, customer service should do much better. Save your money, don't shop here, because they really don't care if you come back. This negative review could have been avoided for $5. They luckily had the exact model I was looking to buy...perfect. The older employee helping me had an attitude. He wouldn't even take it out of the box/wrapping to see it. I've been shopping at the ROS for over 40 years. I've recently purchased a shotgun and a handgun there and have used their FFL services for some firearms I've sold. I went there today to ask about using their FFL services for a rifle I purchased on line. They told me because they sell the same rifle (although they have none in stock) they would charge me $100 instead of $50. They have lost me as a customer. I find this store to be completely lacking in all aspects. Their sales reps, managers, and cashiers are all lacking in professionalism, knowledge, and friendliness. Their products are extremely over-priced. Other outdoor stores and online shopping would be much cheaper. I try to support local, private businesses but not when they are run like this! I also overheard two cashiers talking about a manager that was fired because he was conducting himself in a very unprofessional manner, including making many of the female workers feel uncomfortable. I wish I could say that my experience was better because I like to patronize small businesses but sadly, it wasn't. I went there with my family to buy some camping equipment for our son and while the selection was decent and the sales person was knowledgable, there was a definite vibe of indifference as well as a lack of customer service skills. The salesperson would help us and then walk away so that we had to keep asking her to help with the next item and the cashier was just downright rude to us. I attribute both of these issues to the fact that both were very young and clearly untrained in customer service but if management doesn't care enough to train their staff, why should I bother to shop there? read more
