It's a funny ole place, is the Ramsgate. I've known of it and been local to it for more years than I care to mention. I've seen it in many guises. I've lived away and come back with fresh eyes. I've been there with friends. I've been there on dates. I've been there for family occasions. I've eaten there, drunk there, seen live music there. But I've never really warmed to the place. It's such a magnificent heritage building. Absolutely stunning. Full of promise. Inside just lacks character for me. Hard to pinpoint exactly what. Friday nights seem to be the young crowd. Sometimes the taxis are queued up as it's so busy. There are events there, like the recent cider festival. There are rooms to book for functions. You can get a decent meal there and the wine list is good. So, by all means, join the many who enjoy it here. There's nothing wrong with it. Okay, I can't say that I was ever a regular at this place, but the Ramsgate and I do have a pretty decent history. Since we would regularly come down to Henley Beach when you received those emails (or text messages) calling everybody to come down to the beach on those really hot Adelaide days, I would always find myself at the Ramsgate after we had a frolic on the beach. The Ramsgate is one of the Adelaide institutions that I could never imagine every disappearing, and in fact when I came back here today all I can say is that nothing, absolutely nothing, has changed. It is still the great pub that I have spent time either having a meal with friends, or simply sitting out on the pavement watching the activity over on Henley Square. read more

The Ramsgate Hotel is a big, beautiful old-fashioned pub on the seafront. I'm no regular here, but I have on occasion stopped in for a brew. It is certainly a nice place to drink when Bacchus (directly in front of the beach) is full, which is always. Although management have done their best to destroy some of the feel by installing massive flat screen tv's, the old pub is still really nice. The bistro looks a bit like an NSW RSL club, but hey, no complaints here. The Ramsgate isn't particularly 'trendy' (and it isn't very trendy to use the word 'trendy') but I'd have a few drinks there on a sunny afternoon. read more

After having lived on the other side of town for a long time, making the trip to the Ramsgate at the beach was infrequent. However, one Saturday night I made the trek across Adelaide and was pleasantly surprised. First of all, the most important thing to mention is that it's a favourite watering hole for past and current football players so if you're into your footy there is plenty of opportunity for C Grade celebrity spotting. The main bar is spacious and they leave lots of the tables out even late on a Saturday night which is great if you are there with a group and would rather sit and chat than dance the night away. The bar is quite big, however I still had to wait quite a while for a drink, even on a reasonably quiet Sunday night. We also went to order some food around 9pm and they had closed the kitchen a few minutes before which left us frustrated and disappointed. Lastly, the toilets are pretty gross and definitely need updating. Considering the modernity of the décor and furniture in the main bar area and restaurant, you would think they could extend that to the toilets. read more

I like it here. Perhaps part of the appeal is that it's not often that I decide to venture this far out (I live in Torrens Park), and therefore the novelty has not yet worn off. Plus now having spent time here during both day and night festivities, I must conclude that the Ramsgate Hotel has got it going on. When I came here for lunch, I sat outside and made the most of a quality burger with chips on a beautiful sunny afternoon. Part of the Ramsgate's appeal is it's beautiful beachside surroundings. In fact Henley Beach takes the cake in my eyes, just quietly. After coming here again more recently in the evening, I must again conclude that I was more than satisfied with my overall experience. The Ramsgate boasts a large layout within such a beautiful and authentic pub exterior. Overall I found it "rawer" than other pubs of its sort, with the ability entertain more efficiently than newly renovated places such as The Cremorne or Highway Hotel. It may also be worth noting that a large crowd poors in on a Saturday night. Summer time has well and truly arrived at the Ramsgate! read more

I am not a frequent traveller to Henley Beach and this was my first time at The Ramsgate Hotel. Situated just behind the beachfront in this attractive old heritage building is The Ramsgate. On a cooler Saturday we head in for lunch - a bit after the peak time I expect. The restaurant was empty but near the sports bar there was a handful of groups enjoying a long lunch over drinks. I ordered the Graziers Wagyu Rump (300g) served with steakhouse chips and salad with gravy and it was excellent. Cooked to my liking, medium, with just the right amount of char... juicy, still warm, and well seasoned. But what I found really impressive was the salad. You heard correctly - the salad! I am unfortunately used to the salad being forgotten altogether, or a couple of leaves with tomato and token cucumber thrown on as a sad garnish with too-sweet dressing - so I was not expecting a decent serving of rocket and pear slices with wafer-thin parmesan, tumbled in olive oil and drizzled with balsamic glaze... it was delicious! Chips were crisp and well salted, and gravy though plain was dark and rich. I cleaned my plate totally - the only slight objection was the gravy came served over the steak, when I would prefer it on the side (next time I will ask for this). My partner's beef burger was also very delicious, the patty high quality freshly minced beef cooked to medium. A fried onion ring and tasty aoli elevated this burger above average. I enjoyed my meal with a nice Peter Lehman Riesling and the Cricketers Arms ale went down well on the other side of the table. We shared a baked cheesecake for dessert which was nicely dense and sweet - yum! The atmosphere was quiet and a bit stark, despite the beautiful building but I expect it only comes into its own in Summer when the outdoor umbrellas attract sunseekers. With 25% off the menu at lunch, a decent drinks list and food that bats above it's average I'd say The Ramsgate is not a bad spot for lunch in all seasons. read more

Have been here twice, had the kangaroo both times and it was amazing especially the Beetroot jus. However both meals my partner got were average and on the second occasion the lobster tail fell on the floor (accidents happen, we didn't have a problem with this) but he then had to sit with his steak going cold and the 'new lobster tail' was only pieces in a sauce bowl and he was ill later that night. Were very disappointed with service, especially the second time. Had to wait and ask for forks both times and was difficult to find someone to ask, also was never offered dessert of coffee menu and so decided to go elsewhere and a long wait for seating. Otherwise very nice room, well decorated and a great atmosphere. Was looking forward to coming back regularly after the first time but after our second experience don't think we will be back in a hurry. read more

Boasts a decent pub menu with a stylish decore. It's an amazing pub venue in the beachfront area. The beer garden is a fantastic chillin' area. However the food isn't particularly special. The Ramsgate hotel dining experience is shocking! The bar staff are rude and arrogant with no social skills! I took relatives who were visiting from over seas to dine at the Ramsgate hoping to give them the typical Aussie experience of a good pub meal! The whole experience was embarrassing! The tables were not cleared from previous diners and the service was deplorable! I was hoping the food would redeem our experience as it's not cheap! All I can say is I would NEVER eat there again! Although our dining experiment was dismal I took a few people to the Ramsgate for a couple of drinks and some music on a Friday night! If you like underage pill popping kids who were being served alcohol even though they were obviously excessively drunk, then this is the place to go! I noticed several patrons leaving with glasses of spirits and bottles and the security at the door let them leave! As we were leaving we saw a huge fight up the road with drunken patrons kicking cars and behaving like morons! Again, my embarrassment was palpable as my overseas relatives received a poor impression of Aussies thanks to the Ramsgate! read more

My partner and I quite enjoy going to the Ramsgate for a drink and something to eat. The all day dining is pretty handy and the menu caters for everyone (including vegetarians). Had a few different pub style meals there, salt n pepper squid, vego risotto, chicken burger and the steaks are all really nice. The staff are all polite and helpful. I ordered a beef schnitzel with pepper sauce and the 'sauce' was just a few peppercorns on top and the chips and salad were average at best. Took almost an hour to come out. Normally I would not write a review but the staff were so rude that it completely ruined my evening. I will never come back here again. read more

We had the $15 surf and turf on a Monday and it was very good. The salads need dressing though as they are dry and you can't eat them as they look like they have been sitting out all day. My husband had the steak sandwich and he would have really enjoyed it if the bread was toasted as it was slightly stale. Staff were all lovely but very understaffed and run off their feet but I think this may have been because it was a public holiday. read more
