After the last court date, he assured me he would notify me as soon as the verdict was handed down. It was 21 days after the verdict before he notified me via email, asking if I had the ability to pay the judgement. I had to call, as he didn't tell me the amount. I told him I would bring the check the next day, when I delivered the check, I ask why it took 21 days to inform me, he said he would look into it. 11 days later I received another email stating he "mis figured", and I owed an additional amount, the other attorney advised him that the amount was wrong. He requested I bring another check for the remaining amount, I was unsure of his abilities to complete this task, therefore I sent a check to the attorney myself. I did leave a letter of complaint addressed to Steven Deig with my concerning information in hopes of discussing the matter. I have had no response.

There was an obvious error in their favor, so I called to point out the discrepancy. The paralegal, Debra Mayer, tried to intervene and would not transfer me to the billing person. She admitted she knew nothing about the billing but still would not let me talk to someone that did. She then transferred me to Terry Mauer. I expressed my concerns but was more or less told to butt out. To that end, my son paid the bill minus the error. Two days later, he received a $60 bill for my phone call. Maybe it was because I was a pre-law major, and breezed through the LSAT. Does this give me some sort of credentials? Uh, no, I don't think so; therefore, when I'm in a bind, I need to retain counsel. Indeed, I was in a bind, when I met Steve Barber. When I search for an attorney, I don't pick the first clown I see in the phone book with a colorful ad, and catchy line. No, I meet with about a half a dozen of them, ask questions, and make an educated decision. EVERY person we spoke to, had nothing but very positive remarks concerning Steve Barber. Now, how was I in a bind, you ask? Well, my wife and I sold a business, and the new owners, after approximately 9 months, defaulted. They owed us nearly $100,000, and we sure as hell were not going to just "forgive" this debt. No, we thought the best course of action was to aggressively go after them, and this required retaining the best attorney possible. During our initial meeting with Steve Barber, we were immediately impressed. Granted, I about choked when he told us his hourly rate, as he is far from cheap; but, you get what you pay for. Even though our case lasted about a year and a half, cost us $20K, and was stressful, there were several reasons to be impressed with Steve Barber: For example, our deposition was an act of brilliance. Barber, in my view (and his), simply, and successfully broke down the Defendants, and their attorney. In private, he referred to opposing counsel as a "Country Attorney", laughed, and said, "I'm having fun!" When the Defendant's attorney put his head in his hands, Barber looked at him, and said " Do you want to talk in private?" Basically, he was insinuating that we've got this, and we should begin settlement talks. Confident! Fortunately, this was settled at mediation, and we were finally paid. In fact, if we didn't retain Barber, we might not have ever been paid. He is aggressive, very knowledgable, and has the respect of his peers. Also- even though he is very expensive, I must say that his billing was extremely fair and honest. Great attorney, and actually a good guy as well. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I employed the services of Mr. Arnaez in late July, 2016 for an expungement. We went to court Sept…read more 12 and the judge signed off on the order. I heard back from the state police in late November, 2016 and found that there were still "MC" numbers left on my record and also my BMV record had not been cleared of DUI's, which, according to the statute is part of the expungement process. I informed Ivan of this, to which he responded by saying he would take care of the MC numbers but wanted to wait another month, to see if the BMV was possibly taking a little longer. Seems fair enough, I thought. So, after a month I checked my BMV record and the DUIs were still showing up. I called Ivan and told him this. He first just tried to end the conversation by saying "well, ok then". Really, Ivan? That's all you have to say about it. I told him from the beginning that the BMV issue is very important to me and he assured me it would be taken care of. Now he is trying to avoid dealing with it. After telling him, again, that I need my motor vehicle record taken care of, he responded by telling me that a potential employer "might not even check." WOW!!! REALLY?!?!? You've got to be joking me. After I assured him that an employer would be checking my driving record, he then tried to tell me to wait another 3 weeks, which I didn't want to do, because I had contacted the BMV myself and they told me they had no record of any expungement paperwork for me. So he told me he was going to call the BMV and see what was going on and to give him 2 weeks. On top of that, the MC numbers hadn't been taken care of, either. So, after not hearing from him in over 2 weeks, I called him. I asked him if he had called the BMV, and he responded by completely avoiding answering the question and giving me a bunch of crap about how the law is less than a year old and "there is no infrastructure" and blah blah blah, and said that he would get the MC numbers taken care of for me, of course completely avoiding the BMV issue. So, once I point blank asked him about taking care of the BMV record, he said he would call them in a few days. Fast forward 2 more weeks. Its now late January. I sent him a text asking him about the MC numbers and the BMV issue. The MC numbers hadn't been taken care of, but he did FINALLY file the paperwork for the MC numbers. Of course, he didn't address the BMV issue. I had to ask him, again, separately from my original text about when he was going to take care of it. His response was, and I quote, "when I have time". Well that was the last straw. He had been giving me the run around the whole time and lied so many times to me that I was done with him. I got my paperwork from him and got it to another attorney who is fixing the issue for me. I will be filing in small claims court against Ivan Arnaez. All in all, my experience with Ivan Arnaez was absolutely horrible and I would highly suggest to anyone thinking of using this attorney to run, don't walk, far far away from him.

He is not only surprisingly passionate about his work but he's extremely knowledgeable and is always 20 steps ahead of everyone else. He doesn't fight dirty but he also doesn't let up. The opposing counsel at the time made a remark to my husband about how Arnaez has perfected the art of moving people with his words. He's a quick one and knows how to work a room. (I think the pace at which he operates has a lot to do with being from New York). He makes it all look easy, too. I also have to state that he's very reassuring when you come up with a concern. I fared very well while my separation was going on, but my husband and I decided to reconcile. Had we not, I have zero doubt that we would have kept that nice momentum until the end. If you want to grab a situation by the balls, call this guy!!
