Darren welcomes you with such casual hospitality that five minutes after sitting down you start wondering if you've accidentally been adopted. 2. The Scioto Ribber is so unpretentious that if a New York food critic walked in wearing a $3,000 suit, the steak would still be the most impressive thing in the room. 3. Some steakhouses sell atmosphere. The Ribber sells steak and lets the atmosphere happen naturally. 4. The menu has less ego than most restaurant owners. 5. The steak arrives looking like it just won a bar fight and a beauty contest on the same day. 6. Every bite tastes like somebody figured out how to barbecue a memory. 7. The char-smoked flavor is so unique that if you served it blindfolded, half the table would think they were eating at a ranch in Montana and the other half would think they died and went to beef heaven. 8. When we got our drinks we ordered our food, honestly we got our food the quickest I believe I have ever gotten food at a restaurant. I ordered the Burrito Grande (which was HUGE) it had chicken, steak and ground beef with refried beans and rice wrapped in a giant tortilla shell. My food was fantastic!!! The restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside but inside it is was clean and had tons of seating, everything was decorated in a Mexican motif and was bright and roomy. The food, service and experience was great, if you are in Portsmouth Ohio and want some great Mexican cuisine I highly recommend Toro Loco!

Salsa was mild which I liked but others may find too mild. My husband didn't complain that it was weak so it must have been ok for him too. He likes runny salsa, I like chunky (more like pico) but we both enjoyed it. He ordered a house margarita on the rocks and said it was strong (in a good way). Beans were the right consistency to make a good chip dip. My husband had the enchiladas supreme that came with one each of chicken, beef, bean, and cheese. He finished about 1/2 and polished off the rest today for lunch. I was so full that I forgot about the doke whips on the sign outside but that's ok because we'll definitely be back to try their Norris and street corn items. Plus the fun drinks. The owner came by to greet us and we talked for quite a bit about the lack of quality Mexican food in the area. We were happy to find out they have 4 locations including Waverly which is about 30 minutes closer to us. But in honesty, we'd drive the hour for quality Mexican food. Oh and Bluey was there.
