Not being from Portsmouth I didn't nowhere to find good pizza. So I took a few minutes left through the Yelp and I found the pizza pub. It was just right around the corner from where I was staying. Their pizza is quite good. It's very thin with a crispy crust. The sauce is spot on. I was surprised to find that they had green olives, so I ordered a mushroom pepperoni and green olive pizza. I found the pizza to be very good. Just needed a little bit of salt and garlic. I did a carry out order so I didn't really pay much attention to the interior. But from what I can see, it was clean and well-maintained. Should I find myself in the Portsmouth area again? I'll definitely get a pizza for these good folks. read more

I'm a sucker for a good veggie pizza. Pizza Pub has a very good veggie loaded with toppings. It also seems like every pizza comes with extra cheese so don't ever order 'extra' cheese unless you want a ridiculously cheesy pizza. Beyond the excellent pizza, the place has a retro vibe that anyone that was alive in the 70's or 80's would feel. And the service is pretty much constant. The wait staff waits all of the tables so we were well taken care of. Finally, they have Touchtunes so you can play your music and feel even more at home. Let me paint a picture: We sit down, excited for a chill meal, when our waiter approaches wearing biker shorts so tight they looked painted on. Not even exaggerating -- this man was one pelvic thrust away from turning the whole place into a Magic Mike sequel. It was less "waitstaff" and more "emotional support bulge." We ordered a few appetizers, including the much-anticipated cheese breadsticks. The other apps came out just fine... but no breadsticks. So after some time (and many longing glances toward the kitchen), we politely asked where they were. This man snapped like we'd just insulted his entire bloodline. "They'll come out when they come out," he said, with the attitude of someone who's been personally burned by breadsticks before. Then he walked off -- not silently, mind you. No, he went over to the bar and loudly started telling everyone about us. Like we were the table from hell for wondering where our blessed carbs were. He and another waitress then proceeded to whisper, laugh, and look over at us like we were in some kind of gluten-related scandal. I half expected him to toss us a Bible and say, "May the cheesy bread cleanse your soul." Eventually, the cheese breadsticks did arrive -- about five minutes before the entrées -- looking like they'd been on a long journey of self-discovery. By then, the vibe was shot, our appetite was somewhere in witness protection, and the only thing keeping us in our seats was morbid curiosity about what he'd say next. Food: fine. There's pizza and then there's Pizza Pub pizza. It truly is one of the best in the area. My brother got the deluxe pizza. He really liked it. I ordered a no crust pizza. It was wonderful. Even my brother said he believed the no crust pizza was the best of the two. The place was clean, and the beer signs added to the ambiance. The waitress was terrific, working hard to keep us satisfied without being annoying. It had been years since I ate here, but it won't be years before I return. This place is awesome. We are from out of town and wanted to watch a playoff baseball game. They found it and got it on for us strait away. The food was a secondary thought but wow did we get lucky. We got regular dinner salads and they were everything they needed to be. The wings were on point. The pizza was thin crust and absolutely delicious. The beer was cold and they have a pretty good selection. The atmosphere was great. People having a good time, it felt very much like my home bar and I had never been there before. Pizza Pub sadly is one of those places in Portsmouth that are often overlooked and forgotten even though they're on the main rd. It's too bad they're on the edge of town. I discovered Pizza Pub a couple weeks before moving back up to Columbus after my semester of college was complete. I'm kicking myself now, because when the hubby and I were dating we used to sit across the road at Wendy's and make fun of the awful mural on the side of this building. It looked like a pizza delivery man painted like some sort of Egyptian tomb hieroglyphic. His feet were too small, and his hand was a giant pizza. I'm seriously attempting not to laugh my ass off as I write this, because I'm a work and that would be... odd, but in a nutshell, This place is a reincarnation of a pizza place in West Jefferson called "Todds Pizza". Check out my review on Todds, because the pizza was spot on. Pizza Pub is a dive bar, with mirrors and red paint everywhere. The place is so dark you can barely see what you're eating, but it doesn't really matter, because it's fantastic. I don't think the locals really know what a gem this place is, because they're so over infatuated with the chain places, which are shinier and new, but that's the headache of Portsmouth in itself, which prompted me to move from there in a blink of an eye. So this is a Ma/Pa Pizza/Bar joint. The atmosphere was cool. Large bar - 4 TV's in the front room. I can see this being a cool hang out for college kids, and kids in the 20's. AS far as pizza, it was below par. Very disappointing. The pizza tasted like a frozen Digiorno pizza from the grocery store - bland, watery sauce, no flavor. It was bad. I was disappointed. There is a review of the pizza being the best he ever had, maybe I've experienced alot more Pizza places, because this pizza was not good at all. Service was good, servers are friendly and polite. I highly recommend this restaurant! The Pizza Pub serves delicious, old fashioned, traditional American pizzeria style pizza. The pizza dough and sauce are freshly made on-site. The other menu items are rather tasty, too. When compared to other restaurants/bars in the area, the soft drinks are relatively expensive (over $2) but the alcoholic beverages are relatively inexpensive. The Pizza Pub's kitchen is open late (Tue-Sat 11 p.m.) and the wait staff is usually great (I can't guarantee this since turnover seems to be frequent; -1 year). Since this is not "conveyor belt" pizza like many national/regional chains, there is naturally a slight problem with product consistency, but an imperfect pizza is rare. Definitely the best pizza in Portsmouth, Ohio if you are looking to dine-in. The pizza does not retain it's crispness during take-out in a cardboard box; therefore, I recommend dining in. read more

There is a time in every mans life when he eats a pizza so crispy, yet so satisfying that he must shed a tear when it is all gone. Long story short, lived in Portsmouth my whole life and never tried the pizza pub. Until now. Bathrooms are clean and have funny signage. Food was amazing. Can't complain about the wait times because the menu says expect at least a half hour wait on your pizza. Don't worry it was worth every minute. Best part was the service. A server told me the best tip he ever got wasn't money but to never take a laxative and a sleeping pill at the same time. Great place. read more

Several years ago my husband and another couple went to 12 different pizza places in the tri-state area and rated them best to worst. The Pizza Puub was the absolute best! Seciond was Fred's in Wheelersburg. Even though the Pizza Pub has changed hands the pizza is the same and still the absolute best!! We have a little drive but try to make it there at least once or twice every month. We order the deluxe and LOVE it! read more

im not from portsmouth and finding pizza in this little town is a letdown. i finally tried the pub and was suprised by a decent pie. overall not bad, definitely the best this town has to offer and the staff were nice too, thats something almost never experienced in portsmouth; they do need to work on freshness and price vs portion imo. read more
