I was shocked at Allerton's price, which was completely ridiculous. They were at least £5,000 more than four of the companies, who all priced roughly the same, even out-pricing Everest, which shocked me. They come out at almost £8,000 more than the others for replacing all the windows and doors. Based on these prices, I decided not to go ahead with them, as I don't think they can justify their prices, regardless how good they claim to be. They use Rehau windows, which a lot of companies use, so the only thing they can use for price justification, is their quality of installation.

We didn't get the paperwork for the work until September which we returned with the deposit they asked for. The subsequently contacted us and asked for an additional payment saying that the window sill was not included in the original quote. We asked them to check the paperwork which they did and confirmed that it was included. They came out in October and made a judgement call not to carry out the work because of the severe weather and we rearranged for a few days later. They did not turn up for this and did not contact us to say why. We chased this up and were told that the office manager would get back to us but he didn't. The following day we received a brief letter from Dee Windows saying that they had returned our deposit. This is a quote from the letter: "We do not wish to carry out the window replacement for you." No explanation was given.

The quality of the windows is very good and the fitting was quick and efficient. They did crack a pane during fitting the bathroom window but they apologised and fitted a new pane a week or so later. We have recommended them to others as our experience was a very good one and five or six years later, the windows are performing well and not showing any signs of degredation.

The company falsley claimed to be registered with professional bodies. Money was demanded for work that had not been done. Work undertaken was of very poor quality. The serious allegations against Mersey Builders was upheld. The company was fined.
