Most visitors to this park do so for river access for fishing. This park site is historically know as the spot where John Washington, a Fredericksburg slave who escaped to freedom behind Union lines. This site is known locally now for the amounts of drownings that originate from this river access spot. Seems that no matter how many signs you put up in every language known to man there will still be people that don't use common sense and respect the river. Unfortunately we live in a time where the acts of a few will force the hand of the city to close off all access. Yea I'm sure that'll be the solution. Me ~

There's place for football, frisbee, grilling and even some goals for soccer. The river is swimmable although the currents are very strong and can be filled with debris after storms. There is a memorial garden, parking area and lots of benches to relax on. On both sides of the wide Rappahannock River are houses or dwellings of a bygone either Civil War or even Colonial Era. This park was lots of fun to explore: hanging around the hiking path along the banks, log skips and throwing a football. The park is maintained by a Fredericksburg municipal park crew that oversees the grass, the shrubs and trees. Review: great outing

There are soccer fields/goals, the playground is covered for the kids, swings are uncovered but they have swings for young and big. They have a trails for biking the entire park. Dogs must be leashed while at the park. There are picnic tables as well for parties/get together or your weekend lunch, parking was okay when I showed up at 12pm, but by the time I left at 2pm the lot was full with cars circling. Parking is an open gravel lot. There are a few handicapped spots, I would consider the park 50% accessible for wheelchair users, definitely have a hard time getting to the bike path but once there it is paved, the parking lot being completely gravel can also be difficult, The walking path is gravel only. Overall, safe and clean park for any age

We clocked more than 3 miles walking the Rappahannock towpath greeted dozens of fur babies and fellow walkers, enjoyed fresh air, saw lots of beautiful birds and each made a new friend.

I decided that after a long, crappy day that I'd take a walk and I started down the path. From where I started down the path to my turnaround point (30 minutes) it was almost all down hill. You know what that means, right? By the time I made it back to my hotel this guy KNEW he needed to lose about 70 pounds before he tried this again! It was actually quite a beautiful walk, but it kicked my butt.

About at mile 2 from Rt 605 the gravel has seen better days and it's quite bumpy. However, it is such a fun trail for a challenge without much hills. Definitely need a mountain or mountain hybrid bike. Walking or running on this trail is wonderful just be sure to watch your footing especially in fall when the leaves may cover up some of the old wooden tracks. Small kids/strollers will have a hard time past the 2 mile. Bring bug spray in the summer! Views are absolutely beautiful!
