About to give up I made one last phone call to Ratner Molineaux and was then pleasantly surprised to receive a same day return phone call from David Ratner. Our first conversation was relaxed with David listening to my claims and asking further questions. I was quickly assured I had found the right law office. David agreed to take my case and I knew I was in good hands. David did an awesome job of protecting my interests and keeping me calm and informed as the case progressed. His staff was awesome as well making sure every detail was taken care of and responding patiently to my questions and concerns. I was nervous as the day of mediation with my former employer approached but soon found that I had nothing to worry about with David representing me. They reached out to me to take my case, and scheduled an initial consult. David Ratner was on time. Shelley Mollineax showed up 10 minutes late, stayed for about 5 minutes (until Mr. Ratner said something awkward and flirtatious to her), and then left without saying anything whatsoever. I needed representation for a government misconduct case (which it is impossible to get an attorney for), and David sounded enthusiastic. Before we agreed that they would represent me, I said "I want to make sure we are on the same page in terms of what we are aiming for", and explained that I meant in terms of what our goal would be in terms of monetary compensation. I explained that at the time of the trial, I will have sacrificed FIVE YEARS of my life. Not only that, but I had been brutalized for no reason, evidence had been destroyed and concealed, I had permanent brain damage that affects me to this day, and an extremely serious kidney injury. I asked David for a number, and he said "a hundred thousand". I explained that I had asked for 3 million dollars, and that this exactly lined up with the most similar case I could find, and named that case specifically by name. He explicitly agreed that that would be what we would aim for, and we agreed, premised on that, that he and Shelley would represent me in my case. He and Shelley both then refused to communicate with me for over a month, while I made polite inquiries once or sometimes twice a week by phone, email, or leaving messages and requests for a call back with their receptionists. David then emailed me and demanded "all the documents" that I had. I diligently worked with his paralegals for over a month providing and organizing hundreds of files for them, diligently giving them everything they asked for, and everything I thought they might need or might be relevant. David then emailed me, falsely accused me of not sending him "anything", and threatened, in writing, to withdraw as my attorney, which is unlawful and a violation of the Rules of Professional Conduct. I forwarded him the last email to his paralegal, and he went back to ignoring me. He then forwarded me an email from Opposing Counsel, in which OC made a blatantly false and unsupportable accusation against me, and again, David threatened to unlawfully withdraw as my attorney. David treated me in bad faith. He then forwarded me an offer of $5,000. This is 0.017% of what we had agreed to aim for. Again, 0.0%. He then openly admitted in writing to planning on precluding me from discussing any damages other than "garden variety pain and suffering for 30 days" (that he was planning on sabotaging me), refused to honor the Court's official policies stating, on their official website, and in General Order 25 of the Northern California District Court, that Discovery will be reopened when an attorney comes onto the case, in cases like mine. He told me that he would be withdrawing, and then didn't, while the clock was ticking to my scheduled trial. He waited another month before he finally filed a motion, while no lawyers would talk to me because I was already "represented". In his motion he stated that no delay would be caused to the scheduled trial. I was not allowed to conduct Discovery. I was not allowed to litigate. Withdrawing as someone's attorney is illegal, and while there are some exceptions, this is not one of them. It was blatantly illegal in this case. He abandoned me, and sabotaged me, and made me look bad in front of the judge, and the judge deprived me of my rights too, and that was in large part because David Ratner and Shelley Mollineaux unlawfully abandoned me. "Trojan Horse" was my thought when all that happened. I have not yet had time to file a complaint with the State Bar. Shelley completely ignored me for the entire 3 months or so, until David wrote me an email making it clear that they would not be representing me literally the first time Shelley deigned to even speak to me. David is two-faced, and is not against acting blatantly and flagrantly unethically. read more

Ultimately he was unsuccessful in negotiating anything better than my initial severance offer, so the net result was a delay in payment, a waste of time, and disappointment. I did not have a good experience with David Ratner of Ratner Molineaux. From my brief experience, he is hard to reach, like pulling teeth, and does not get results. I was referred to him by a coworker for an employment case negotiation, and soon after we both started having the same difficulties communicating with David. In my case, he wrote a good letter and put in one good effort at first, however his paralegal became the go between. I was low-maintenance, yet only would get one word answers, one rushed 5 minute call, and no discussion on the value of my case before a demand went out with an amount. In summary, I mistakenly thought he had experience and skill. Instead, he seemed to me like a guy who puts no effort in several cases hoping for some to payoff.
