My husband and I originally came here for our honeymoon 2 years ago. We rented the same type of…read moresite (rustic cabin) but overall it was just not good. It was incredibly dusty to the point that we thought they just didn't clean it after it not being used all winter. There were bugs and spiders everywhere, yes I know its camping so it should be expected. However, it was excessive. We didn't have to kill that many bugs the first trip we took. The screen to the outside door was almost half off at the bottom so if we wanted to leave the main door open we couldn't unless we wanted more bugs in the room. The bed, if you can call it that, was horrible. It was so springy that we are pretty sure they stacked 2 box springs on top of each other and said ok good enough. There was no way we would be able to sleep there, and the bunk beds weren't any better. When my husband was climbing onto the top bunk to see if it was any better than the full bed we thought he was going to break the railings because they were so flimsy. There was no ladder. It was very cold so my husband went to turn on the heater that was attached to the wall. We were lucky that we had brought a long lighter with us to start a fire outside because there was no way to get the heater to work without it. If someone tired to turn the heater on and didn't know what they were doing, some could easily have left the gas from the propane tank on without realizing it and it could be incredibly dangerous. Makes me worry about small kids playing with it and not realizing that they had turned anything on. My husband and I checked in at about 4:15pm on Tuesday, we had our car packed up and were dropping the keys to the cabin the key drop box by 11pm that same night to make the 3 hour drive home. I called the following day to make sure someone found the keys, which they did. All they had to say was "I hope you enjoyed your stay". It didn't seem like they thought anything had been wrong. We will be back to the Old Forge area, just not at HTR. I will say there were 2 good things: the women who checked us in seemed to remember me from when we were there 2 years ago which I thought was nice. And today there was a tornado warning with 80mph winds, she forgot that we had left so she called to let us know to make sure we were safe. She was the only decent thing about our stay.

The setting along Moose River was very nice! Bathrooms seemed recently updated and very clean…read more Trash and recycling were far from the campsites to keep critters away from our campsite. The front desk folks were super helpful and nice. To get a 5: it was muddy near our site; maybe add more gravel or sand? Improve road and signage to campsite. Better info on firewood and usage.

From 10/9 and 10/10 2015…read more I came here to officiate my best friend's wedding at the Lake Chalet over the weekend, and I have to say- I'm very impressed by this place. First, this place is breathtaking, the lake itself is just amazing to look at with its blue-green color. There are acres of trails to walk, and because of the time of year it's so nice to be in nature. Secondly, the cabins are made of cedar, so they keep an okay amount of isolation in the cold, but these are not heated cabins so bundle up when you go to bed. The cabins are really nice on the outside as well as the inside; you do have to bring your own bedding for them considering this is a campground after all. Thirdly, there is a section here for RV's if you don't prefer pitching a tent or using the cabins. Also, they have a bunch of nice rooms in the hotel sections, which are neat, and spacious. Lastly, I was impressed with the staff here; they were super friendly and accommodating. I really appreciate their helpfulness, if I every get the chance to I would come back here because it's a pretty spectacular place

Accomodating, Fantastic, Perfect are all words I usually reserve for Michelin-rated restaurants,…read morebut Lake Chalet went so above-and-beyond that there really are no words to describe my latest visit in over 25yrs As I stated in the opening sentence, it's been 25 years since I had last been to Lake Chalet, but that's due to life imposing it's will, and family circumstance. Living in Atlanta definitely has a lot to do with the gap in visiting, but in modern times, that's no real excuse. The reason for my latest visit was the death of my Mom. Her wishes were to be buried nearby in Utica, and that all of our family was to have a celebration of her life at The Chalet. Well, as anyone that deals with family knows, that often things go awry that make circumstances like a "funeral party" tough. The owners Mike and Christine went the extra ten miles to make sure our Mom's party went off without a hitch. There are no words of thanks enough to cover what they did for us in such a short amount of time. The property is spotless, well-thought-out and quaint, but perfect for a small outing with perfect backdrop. The lake is picturesque, and the camping spots are shaded with a very family-oriented feel to the overall property which make the perfect setting for our visit this go'round. Yeah, they can't control the weather, but whomever made the call to the man upstairs, made one helluva perfect scene for my Mother's life celebration. I'm sure that my only visits to Lake Chalet will involve visiting my Mom's burial site in Utica in the future, but it's nice to know that places like this exist. With people like Mike and Christine around, it's safe to say that anyone that visits here will be well taken care of in the best way possible. 10/10.
