I got a piercing! To be more specific: it's a helix piercing, which means it's in the upper ear,…read morepiercing through the cartilage. I'd been meaning to get this piercing since I was a teenager, but back in the days I wasn't mentally quite prepared for it. First, I didn't want to be the one person in my village with a piercing "like that" - if a boy had a piercing, it was the one through the ear lobe. Secondly, we had a saying in Germany that goes like this: "Links ist cool, rechts is schwul." That translates to: Wear it on your left and you're cool. Wear it on your right and you're gay. As I said: I wasn't ready for this when I was a teenager and then I eventually ended up working in hospitality and that industry didn't really like it if you had had piercings as a man. (Times have luckily changed on that front.) Going through somewhat like a midlife crisis (or second puberty?), I figured now would be a good time to get that piercing. A friend recommended Punktured in Brighton and without further ado, I made an appointment. The staff was super friendly and walked me through the various steps: both of the procedure and the healing process. At every time in the process, I felt very well taken care of! Thank you, Punkture team! Also - guess which side I got the earing in!? Let's be gay ;-)

Now I found out I'm pregnant and I asked them if they could take the piercing out as it can be dangerous. Not only did they refused to help me, but one of the ladies (short one with dark hair) was extremely rude with me, even though I told her many times I was very worried because the doctor told me it could be risky to keep an unhealed piercing during pregnancy. When I asked her if she at least could teach me how to take it out safely, she rolled her eyes and looked at the other employees and told me I could not take it out inside the store. I told her I could do it outside and expressed my worries to her and she started saying I was "giving her attitude" as if I were a child. I never had anyone mistreat me like this and I don't wish anyone, particularly a first-time mum, to go through this. I wouldn't recommend a place with such rude and insensitive (un)professionals. Additionally, this was the only piercing I had problems healing. I have other 5 made in other places which all healed fine and people were always lovely and helpful. The only reason I don't give less stars is because the professional who pierced me at the time was very respectful and nice.

The staff are very friendly and make you feel very comfortable. I went in there to ask how painful it would be - a common question no doubt, and they gave me some great advice - go away, have a burger, don't think about it, then come and do it! They're very clean, very professional and as I said they do a good job of making you very at ease. Price wise they're very fairly priced in my opinion, having had other piercings before now. I've been back to this place regularly to buy new tongue balls and belly bars as I also have my belly button pierced. I think they have a good selection of body jewellery but not an overly excessive amount, however the prices in comparison to Punktured (in the North Laines) are a lot less. This is the only place I have had a piercing done in Brighton but I'd say the standard of the service is great. It's difficult to review a piercing place if you're getting something pierced that you haven't before as it's difficult to compare or know how it was supposed compare to other piercings... Saying that, my boyfriend has had his nipple pierced in this place after having it done previously at a different studio - the first time he had it pierced it never really heeled properly and he ended up taking it out, but since he recently had it repierced at Intro, he hasn't noticed any problems. All I can say that this is a decent piercing place and that the staff are very open and friendly with you and are always happy to give advice or answer your questions about anything so if you're trying to find a place to get something pierced I can safely say that you'll have nothing to worry about if you go to Intro. - Two years on and I've had no problems with my tongue piercing.. .

The lady who did my tattoo was really talkative whilst doing my tattoo which was great as it distracted me from the pain, and she also gave me lollies which was nice as well, haha! Great atmosphere so I'd definitely recommend!

On a recommendation from a friend I decided to offer my hard earnt pennies (that is actually a lie, I used a cash rebate I got from my Masters fees!!) to Tattoo FX. After booking in a date I had to wait about 2 weeks for the day of reckoning and then a further 30 minutes whilst the previous client was being finished off. Luckily the waiting area is furbished with comfortable sofas and a lot of examples of the artists work to pass the time. I was tattoo'd by the new artist (will), who specialised in abstract designs. After a brief consultation to finalise the tattoo we went through to his room. The studio is very clean and all the expected hygiene protocols are more than met. He was helpful in advising where the tattoo would best be positioned (I initially wanted it on the top of my forearm, but on his advise went for the underside). He wasn't the biggest talker, but to be honest I preferred the fact that he was concentrating on the job, rather than on what he was going to do that weekend. I was very pleased with the result and the established tattooist (Neil) was keen to have a look at the piece also. He specialises in more detailed work and from the examples I saw, I would recommend paying him a visit if you were looking for such a design. The girl at reception was helpful with aftercare advise and the cost came in at £70 for about 1 hours work. You would probably be able to find a cheaper studio, but if you are looking for a quality tattoo in a friendly and professional studio then Tattoo FX should be your tattooist of choice. One word of warning; make sure to bring enough money in cash as they do not accept credit cards for payment.

The guy doing the piercing really made her feel at ease and when I nearly passed out watching the whole thing, his colleague very kindly got me a glass of water and showed me somewhere to sit down. Once my friends mouth had stopped swelling up, she did say that she was very pleased indeed. They had some increadible examples of tattoo art on the wall which I must admit did tempt me to roll my sleeves up and 'get some ink' but I think I'm a bit old for all that now.
