I flew Ravn this past weekend to Homer! Super convenient - would rather fly than make the drive. I think a lot of people forget, these planes are Dash 8's, they aren't your normal commercial airline with all the bells and whistles. Which means, under some weather conditions they won't be able to fly or have delays until the weather clears up. The weather where you're waiting to board could be significantly different from where the flight is coming in from. I would much rather have them cancel a flight than to fly passengers in conditions they aren't comfortable with. Fog for an example - they don't have the technology like the commercial airlines to land safely with an auto pilot setting. Flying Ravn also means not having to deal with TSA, which is always a plus! Cuts off so much time! So you can literally just show up 30 mins prior to your flight. They also serve fresh cookies in flight - super delicious. They have various flavors. The white chocolate is probably my fave. The flight attendants & front counter folks are friendly as well! Can't wait for them to start their Northern Pacific flights, which will include Japan as a destination!! And PS - you can get Alaska Airline miles with each flight now as well! read more

I fly Raven on business trips to Homer and Dillingham they have pretzles and cookies on these short flights and do a drink service too! But the best thing is they're partners with Alaska Airlines so Yeah Miles! It's different than normal checkins they have their own gate and you walk on the tarmac to board the small planes that hold 45 or so passengers. Incredible lack of customer service. I had used 10K Alaska Airline miles to fly my son from Anchorage to Valdez December 2023. We knew they cancelled 75% of the time, and unfortunately they did again this time, meaning he could not participate in the family Christmas gathering. Anyway, before they could tell me told me my miles were un-refundable, I decided to call and find out how to transfer them back. I was on hold once for one hour, left message to be called back. then again same process for two full hours, left request to be called back. Now 5 days later zippity-do-dah no contact from them. So I looked them up and the address for corporate offices is 4700 Old Int'l Airport Rd. and there website says, "Visit Us". So you go there and guess what the entryway is a small 8' X 10' locked space that gives you the option to call the phone numbers I already called. Nobody is available. This is indeed during open hours. And yes I emailed to the provided email addys. So I looked up their business corporate license, so I could write to them to try to get my miles back, and complain about their total lack of regard for customers. July 23rd, 2021. My grandfather passed away in October of 2020 and my family booked a ocean boat to take us out to spread his ashes as his final wish. Due to work circumstances I was only able to get the day-of off so my family booked me an early morning flight (7:30am) in order to make the boat at 11:30am. I arrived at the airport at 5:30am, checked in, found my terminal, and waited. 7:00a rolls around and the flight is delayed due to weather, no other information is given besides the flight departure time being pushed back to 8:10a. Then 8:10a rolls around, flight is again pushed back. Now to 9:10a, I begin to worry and ask the service desk for more information. They assure me the flight will leave soon. No other information. 9:10 comes and goes, delay now at 9:55am. I ask again for more information, but the ladies at the desk assure me that it should be fine. Knowing the flight would take at least 45 mins from takeoff to landing I am becoming increasingly concerned. 9:55 rolls around....intercom silence...I ask a woman at the front desk whats happening and no clear answer. Then, I look up at the board--flight canceled--I ask them again what is happening and both ladies look confused. Phone calls are made, waiting waiting....finally at 10am the intercom is picked up and we are informed our 7:30am flight is canceled and all passengers waiting for over 3 1/2 hrs for information are told our new departure time is 12:30pm....but by that time my boat is out of the harbor and my family there without me. Hours later of being on hold (they also hung up on me once during the two hours on hold, making me wait for 20+ mins in the queue again) with customer service I am told that nope! I can't be reimbursed for the flight cost, parking costs, or my time (obviously) because I am asking for a reimbursement after the 24hr period that I would have for a cash refund. All I was offered is a flight voucher, to where?! My grandfather's second ash spreading? Yeah ok.... $400 dollars and a day of my life wasted. No closure or processing of my grief, no time with my family to say goodbye. Time that I can never get back with family I never see from out of state. If I had been told when I arrived at 6:30 that there were uncertainties with the weather and my flight may be canceled, I would have packed my bum back into my car and driven to Homer instead. To anyone considering in-state travel with Raven, you might as well just drive. It will save you a lot of time, money, and frustration. Edit: After going full "Karen" on the phone for 2hrs I was finally able to get a cash refund. It was hard fought, and I am still very unsatisfied with my service, but at least I'm not sad and -$400, only sad. read more

I have been using Ravn to fly to destinations in Alaska for work for about a year now. I have had two flights cancelled due to mechanical issues and missed one flight because I was a few minutes late, even though the plane wasn't going to be leaving for another 45 minutes and all I had was a carry on. Ravn's website for booking is absolutely horrible. There is no app, which isn't surprising for this airline. They rely on paper tickets they must be printed out upstairs from the boarding gates. Since there is no TSA they check your ID when they give you your boarding pass and before you board the flight. I'd dislike flying Ravn primarily due to their lack of customer service. Sometimes I can book Ravn flights through Alaska Airlines and those have less issues, but the rest of the year it's a major pain. read more

My girlfriend and I flew Ravn back in February for our trip from Anchorage to Homer. Our overall experience with the airline was fantastic. The ticket counter staff were friendly and helpful. The boarding process was conducted smoothly and with ease. We grabbed our seats and settled in for a brief 40 minute flight. Thanks to a suggestion from the staff, we sat on the left side of the plane in hopes of capturing the best possible views. The plane took off and sure enough -- miles and miles of beautiful wintry Alaska. The flight attendant was kind, joyful, and professional. Per usual Ravn flights, she offered us a complimentary cookie, but because it was Valentines Day, it was in the shape of a heart! Ah, the little things. We enjoyed a local beer and before we knew it, we reached our destination. Thank you to the Ravn team, and this flight attendant in particular, for making our trip special. read more

I have very limited experience with Ravn (pronounced "raven") Alaska. I rode it Sunday, 12/17/2017 as part of my tour package with the Alaska Railroad Corporation. The tour I was on consisted of me riding a train from Anchorage to Fairbanks the day before and then returning to Anchorage via Ravn Alaska flight. I'd never even heard of Ravn before paying for my Alaska Railroad train ride. I have no idea how much the flight cost because it was part of the tour package, so I'm just going to rate my experience in regards to their customer service. Ravn Alaska is a regional airline that's very important to the state because it not only flies to established cities like, Anchorage, Fairbanks, Nome, etc. but also to rural, remote settlements; some of which are only accessible by either boat or plane. Keep in mind Alaska is a state that covers a land mass that's more than twice the size of Texas yet has a population of fewer than 750,000 people. If New York City had Alaska's population density (or lack thereof) there would only be about 16 residents in Manhattan. That certainly puts things in perspective. I caught my flight at Fairbanks International Airport. One thing that's very different about Ravn is you don't have to go through TSA to ride their planes. I just walked up to the counter, gave them my luggage, explained that I was riding as part of the Alaska Railroad tour deal, showed my ID, and that was it. I just sat in the lobby and waited until it was time to board the plane. It was delayed less than an hour but at least it wasn't canceled like one of their planes going to another location was. When it's time to board, you go outside and walk up the steps to get on the plane. Ravn Alaska planes are much smaller than the ones for more popular commercial airlines. The plane I rode had less than 40 seats and was filled near capacity. They also have some planes that seat less than 10 people. The seating is open seating so you can sit wherever you like. The aircraft looks older on the inside but has comfortable maroon seats. We were greeted by the only flight attendant on board, a slim white woman with short brown hair who appeared to be in either her late 30s or early 40s. She wasn't bad looking but seemed to be a little fatigued and was seated facing the passengers. She was polite and went beyond her normal duties to assist everyone. For example, a woman sitting next to me proclaimed, "I'm going to be sick," and then proceeded to barf into a plastic bag. She did this twice and each time handed the bags to the poor attendant to dispose of. You could tell the attendant was grossed out but she did her job without complaint. After waiting a few more minutes for the plane to de-ice, we were on our way. The food on board was a big cookie in plastic wrapping (free of charge). That was okay because it only takes about an hour to fly from Fairbanks to Anchorage. The flight itself was smooth and we didn't have the turbulence you'd expect from small aircraft. Upon landing, our luggage was available within a few minutes at their baggage pickup area. I know that Ravn Alaska has been getting low ratings but just based upon my brief experience with them I'll give them a four. read more

Ravn is a regional airline for getting to key travel destinations in Alaska. Perhaps because they're so small, they have no security. Is this what it felt like to fly commercial in the early 1960s? Even without security you do have to checkin an hour before takeoff or they won't let you board (I've heard this is a strict rule, so I didn't test it). They don't have a kiosk system so expect a long checkin line. While its old school and no frills they did get us to and from Homer, on time, from Anchorage so they're a-ok in my book. read more

Updating my review from 2015. There has been zero improvement in the operations of this company. Actually, the company is worse now than it was. I am traveling to Phoenix and they wanted to charge me $70 for baggage. I'm MVP on AK Air and don't pay baggage fees so I just checked my baggage to Anchorage so I could recheck it there. From Kodiak to Anchorage a crew member got on board and said they were bumping 30 bags from our flight. So basically everyone had a bag bumped. This would be so bad except I have the connecting flight. Now I have to trust these jokers to actually forward my bags. I actually wonder about the safety of Ravn flights. Their ops crew has no communication between each other. They just tell passengers things to appease them and pass the problem off to other crew members. I would like to apply for a job with Ravn. I was visiting a friend in Alaska and was flying alone, and I'm a nervous flyer in general but the great staff at Ravn Alaska put me right at ease. The boarding process was easy and we left and arrived right on time. Though a short flight, the staff made sure to put everyone at ease and made sure we were all comfortable. On top of the fantastic views on our flight, the flight attendant was personable and professional and the cookies were just the cherry on top to a great flight! This airline is consistent. A consistent nightmare! Customer Service- Manager Peggy S in Homer is as rude as they come and encourages her employees to be rude, short tempered and unhelpful. Peggy needs some serious customer services training. And if you call the 800 number they charge you to speak with an agent so your stuck with rude Peggy or have to pay. Cancelations- Ravn has canceled 3 flights of mine in the last 2 months for non weather related issues. First time they were short on pilots and second time mechanical issues. I no longer book the last 2 flights of the day as they seem to be routinely canceled. Baggage-Since February 1 2019 Ravn will charge you $50 for the privilege of checking a bag on Alaska Airlines. This is completely unacceptable for a code share partner. Bottom line is if you can drive to your destination it is in your best interest to do so. 2019 update - This airline continues to suck! Terrible customer service. Children working in the Anchorage terminal who have no clue what's going on. Oh and senior management? Do they even exist. If so they truly don't care and let this attitude trickle down through the ranks. They have NEVER responded to any of my emails and you will rarely get an answer when you call the 1800 number. We booked tickets 3 months in advance. Our flight was unexpectedly moved forward 1.5 hours. We were not told about this in advance (no email, phone call, anything). Because of this, I am going to have to miss my best friend's wedding. Terrible. They close their reservations center at 7, so after that time, you just have to guess when a flight will arrive, most of the time it is cancelled, but there is no way of knowing. The online flight status updates section does not work. I had an elderly passenger fly into Bethel from a village to connect to Anchorage and the Bethel ticket counter said he didn't have a reservation. I called the Reservations line and they said he did have a seat, that they weren't sure why they told him that. They tried calling the Bethel ticket counter, but they didn't answer the phone. So, they made him wait there for 7-8 hours at the terminal in Bethel and did not give me and explanation why. To this day I still don't know what happened.. First flight cancellation they blamed on weather, but weather was not the real problem and we had to stay overnight in Nome ($200 hotel plus taxi $45.00) . I've flown Ravn from ANC (Anchorage) to ENA (Kenai) almost a couple of times per month during the past eight months. My experience has been very good with ANC ticketing agents and the State-wide Reservations phone agents. My personal flights have been 1-day commuter trips, and switching flights with my commuter coupons has been hassle-free (when my reservation schedule needs changing). I do not have any complaints, and I have appreciated the courteous service at the ticket counter and on the flights. read more

This is one of the most insane, archaic, and untrustworthy companies I have ever dealt with. When I attempted to change a flight that I had booked for myself and two friends, I was told that my credit card had not gone through, and that we were not ticketed on the flight. I was shocked at this, as I had received a confirmation email, and no correspondence from Ravn telling me that the transaction had not been completed. I asked the representative no less than three times, on speakerphone, with two other people listening, if he was positive we were not booked on the flight. He said that we were not, so I booked on another airline. I come home to see that I was, in fact, charged for the flight, and after HOURS of being on hold, being bounced around from employee to employee, they still will not refund my "non-refundable" tickets. This had been a 3-month process, which finally ended in me getting a refund to my credit card in 7-10 days, supposedly. I received an email ONE MONTH LATER telling me that sorry, my tickets were not refundable, and that I would be getting a voucher instead. I LIVE NOWHERE NEAR ALASKA. This is laughably horrendous. They shouldn't have a website or a customer service line or service desk at a commercial airport. It should just be a cardboard sign on the corner of Merrill Field offering occasional undependable service around the time that they said it might be. So be prepared to be left in the lurch with nothing but a bad taste and no services provided. Yay for monopolies. Super shady. The weather delay policy that will likely cancel your flight is not consistently implemented. Is it a vfr rule or dangerous conditions rule or just a this is an easy way to make money rule? Either way once they call off your flight their obligation to you ends. I fly a lot for work. End up with probably half a dozen flights a year on Ravn. Haven't ever really had any major problems, however they are consistently late. Sunny day, morning flight, 30-40 minutes late. A charter flight where that's the only thing the plane and crew is doing that day, 30-60 minutes late. 30+ flights on Ravn and I would say I've been on 3-4 that we're on time. read more

I flew on a Ravn plane from Bethel to Tuntutuliak in January of 2018, and was very happy with the flight, which left and arrived on time, and had a very smooth landing. The landing was impressive (many runways in rural Alaska are frozen dirt roads, which I imagine must be hard to navigate with a plane), but the real highlight was the pilot, who was extremely polite and went out of his way to help me and the other passengers onto and off the plane, as well as with our bags. All in all a very pleasant travel experience getting to a very unique part of Alaska! read more

Every time I have to use Ravn they are delayed and it's not an exaggeration EVERY TIME. ever since I've been flying back and forth from Kenai to Anchorage for work it's happened. Not only that their customer service is horrendous, they are rude and take no interest in helping you with what you need. If you need a flight sooner than a week, get ready to fork out an extra 50 bucks they reserve seats for refundable tickets only. I recommend Grant Air. They have smaller planes so reserve early but they go out of they're way to get you where you need to go on time, no delays and alot of the time they will get you on earlier flights. But seriously, even just today, flying out of aniak, I had a reservation two days ago booked in to Aniak and booked out of aniak. I flew out to aniak, came in to the office the next day to fly OUT of aniak, and low and behold, they had no record of me flying to aniak and chose to cancel my reservation for the following day, the day that i was to fly out. That's not only a complete computer literacy debacle but a huge flight/security risk that you don't even know who's on your plane. Would give zero stars if I could. This review is a culmination of years of dissatisfaction: EVERY SINGLE TIME I fly with Ravn, they either A) delay my flight by over 30 minutes, B) cancel the flight completely (once because they "can't fill the plane and it isn't worth the fuel"), C) lose my checked luggage, or D) some combination of the above. On my most recent flight (this week), they checked my bags through to my final destination in the contiguous US, but neglected to put the bags on a plane until hours after I departed. If you must fly a small airline in Alaska, I recommend Grant Aviation. However, I'm confident that a monkey with its thumb up its a** could do a better job than Ravn. read more

6-26-19 Update I started a journey home at 3am with an AK airlines cancellation notice of my RAVN flight. No notice (call, e-mail, text). Go to the counter and they don't seem to care. 6-10-19 Update Arrived plenty early for my flight. The issue today was the line at the counter. We had about 30 people wander up (as a group) and start a second line. After 15 minutes of this mess finally someone behind the counter said something but they ignored her. This caused about 60 people significant delays. When I finally made it to the counter 9 minutes before I was supposed to board I shared my frustration and that there were a ton of upset local customers and the agent said "it's okay, we are used to it...". No cares about customer service at this place. It is amazing how much they don't seem to Much of what RAVN does is very good. Ticket counter, gate agents and pilots all do a good job. That being said the flight attendants seem to be incredibly grouchy. As if they are annoyed to be at work. Work on the culture. 5-16-19 Still grumpy flight attendants. Today's flight had the attendant blocking a seat in front. It wasn't obvious at first but as soon as the plane took off she put the stuff away that she was holding the seat with. They suck. I fly on them every 2 weeks for work and back. Never, ever on time. No reasons or I catch them in a lie. (The weather is bad in Wainwright). Lie. Weather clear. The reason is they use the planes for charters and make the paying passenger wait all day for the plane to get back. It's always something with them. Cant get freight or mail into the villages. The north slope S&R had to use their helicopter to move over 10,000 pounds of mail to atqasuk because ravn wasn't transporting it. They suck big time. I highly recommend that anyone with an option besides Ravn use that option. They often cancel flights to rural places without reason or warning and regularly fail to load baggage. They do not take accountability for oversights and do not have a customer service department that you can talk to. Customers are asked to email consumer affairs, and they never get emails back. If they didn't actually have airplanes, everything about their company would look like an online scam. My family does not fly with them unless it's arranged for business. Yesterday, coming back from a business trip, our bags were not loaded on the flight. There were no other flights coming out to our village that day, so they said they would send them out in the morning. The problem was that freezing rain was forecasted for today. Obviously, we do not have our bags today, and it is unlikely that we will get them. I do not know when we will get our bags. During the prior experience, I missed my Alaska Airlines flight from Nome to Anchorage for medical appointments. We even called at 9:30 to make sure our flight was going to be on time to our village. We were assured that it was good to go, but 10:30 rolled around and the plane did not show up. No one contacted us to notify us of the change. Terrible Customer Service!! I have been trying to track down a lost item for weeks with no reply from anyone at this company!!! I've called every department and have written to every department. After 20+ voicemails still nothing. Anyone I did have the unfortunate pleasure of speaking with was rude and unhelpful. Would not recommend. read more
