I did not get a recording when I called asking me to press a number, I was not told I had to have an appointment to come get an estimate or that I needed to pay a deposit, and I was treated kindly. The price was lower than one of the other local places I called, so I decided to bring my car here. I paid for the parts in advance upon their suggestion for a faster repair, but it was not required. It did cut down on the waiting period. After providing an estimate on the repair, Jeff noticed a piece of plastic loose on the front bumper. He didn't know if I would be returning to get the repair or not, but he secured it temporarily for me without me asking. When I dropped it off for the repair, it was finished in less than a day. I was having the front bumper replaced and painted. When I went to pick it up, I was astonished and really touched. He had not only done an amazing job on the repair (not one noticeable piece out of place), but he had washed the car and polished my headlights. I was so full of gratitude. As long as they are in business, I will not go anywhere else. They made my 11 year car look new! The shop is very small, and when you pull up to the front (it's a little hard to find because it is not well marked and is off of a side street) it doesn't seem like a body shop. There is a little office door. You can just pull up on the sidewalk or on the street and walk right up, and you will be greeted. They don't seem to have much of a waiting area. You can walk to railroad square from there to kill time, but you would be better off having someone help you drop the car off. Please support this local business!

Poor customer service. I took my car for a diagnostic test because it would'nt start (after another…read morebusiness repaced the starter). Sherri the Owner gave me an expensive quote of $199 for the diagnostic test. Later, after they'd received my car she said the diagnostic test could not be done unless I provide two remote keys. At first I'd given them one remote key & 1 regular key. I then took them my second OEM remote key, she and Mr Porter was there, he stated that some wiring was cut, and they'd need yo fix that, before the diagnostic(?) When I went to pay them, Sherri gave me a bill which was nearly $1k. She again said they'd repaired some wiring in order to do the testing. I thought this was way too much for a diagnostic test; I wasn't sure they'd fixed any wiring, but I paid them. I did not let them do any more work because they said the part I needed would cost about $1.5K, then the labor would be $1.5K, that is simply preposterous! After the car was returned, I discovered that my 3rd key was missing (the OEM key). Sherri claimed I only gave two keys to them. I reminded her that I brought in a 3rd key, then she said they'd search for it. She later claimed the key could not be found? I gave a written request that they return my key, or pay a reasonable price for a replacement, but they ignored my request. I reported the business to Florida Consumer Services. Sherri provided a false statement to them, again claiming she only received two keys, thus refusing to return my key or pay for a replacement. This business is bad, they over charged me for a diagnostic test, then lost or stole my original OEM key. Their integrity is shoddy, and just the principal of not trying to make things right is very poor customer relations. I would not recommend Porters Automotive to anyone. *If you go there, take a video of all transactions, or have them make a receipt to you of everything.

She expressed a personal interest in helping us make a wise purchase and not get ripped off. She went into details on how to check the age of the tires, where to look for torn boots, how to spot fluid leaks, how to evaluate hoses, etc. even before we drive it off the lot for a test drive. We are coming from out of town because the car is somewhat a rare find for what we are looking for (a particular brand model, trim level and low mileage). We don't want to have buyer's remorse and have to return it for any reason. While it is under warranty with a full refund available for ten days after the purchase, we will be returning home several hours away, so making a return trip would be expensive and inconvenient. Another proof of Porter Automotive's honesty was that I told her how much the dealership would charge me for the same service ($199), and she still told me their price which was MUCH lower almost by half. She didn't have to mention that! You folks in Tallahassee are blessed to have an auto mechanic shop like Porter's!

I went to Capital City Collision the week of September 1st (either the 2nd or 3rd) for my first…read morequote after an accident. Over the next few days, I also got quotes from Maaco, Advantage Auto Body, Competitive Auto Body, and Gerber. The prices ranged from $4,900 to $3,400. Capital City Collision gave me the lowest quote ($3,400) while also treating me with the most respect and understanding. I dropped off my car on Monday of that week. By Tuesday/Wednesday, they had already disassembled what was needed. They were upfront that there was some visible internal damage and that they wouldn't know the full picture until everything was apart. Unlike other shops that wanted to replace everything, they explained where repairs were possible (like reshaping my radiator rather than automatically replacing it). This saved me significant money. They were also flexible in ways other shops weren't: their aftermarket parts prices matched what I found myself, and they had no problem with me sourcing parts if needed. Several shops refused this outright or insisted on OEM only. Their labor was $55/hour and very fairly priced. I called them a week later for an update, they were still waiting on parts. The following week, they let me know the part they first ordered was broken, so they ordered a new one but they expected the car to be ready the next day. The only hiccup was with one headlight: the part was originally quoted at $600, but since it wasn't available at that price, they adjusted the labor so the difference was only $200 instead of the full increase. That kind of effort to keep the price as close to the original quote as possible is rare in this industry. On September 26th, they called me to say the car was basically ready but had two issues: (1) the PCS light was on (a sensor that helps with braking safety) and (2) the battery had died while they were test driving. Here's where I really appreciated their transparency, they could have easily claimed I needed a new PCS sensor (a very expensive part) or a new battery. Instead, they explained exactly what they were seeing, test-drove the car four times, and told me it might just be a calibration or placement issue. Within an hour, they found the sensor was simply out of place, and the battery worked fine after a jump. They even suggested I go to AutoZone (where I originally bought the battery) to test it, and AutoZone confirmed the battery was perfectly healthy. They could have charged me thousands more, but they didn't. That honesty means everything. The finished work looks fantastic. The hood was completely destroyed in the accident, and part of the side body wasn't great, but I chose not to replace that panel to save money. Because of that, the hood alignment is a little wider on one side, but they respected my choice and explained the tradeoff. It's not noticeable unless you're looking for it. The car looks great, drives great, and was finished efficiently. For comparison: at Advantage Auto Body, they insisted on sawing off my hood just to give me a quote, then left the saw inside my car until Maaco found it and removed it. Other shops were hundreds to over a thousand dollars more expensive without offering more transparency. As a young woman handling this process on my own, it was discouraging at times to see the price differences, but Capital City Collision never made me feel taken advantage of. Overall, they were professional, fair, and incredibly honest. I wish I could tip them on top of what I paid. I'll attach before/after photos to show the difference, but I can say with confidence: this is the shop I would recommend to anyone. Lessons learned: If you're in this situation, I recommend going to multiple shops for quotes and seeing where they overlap on what really needs to be replaced. After that, check aftermarket prices for those parts so you know whether the quote is fair.
