Humble Pool is also nearby, but to my knowledge the public pool hasn't been open on years so I don't know why it still exists. I like this park because... + playground equipment + picnic tables + sand volleyball court + shade trees + pavillions + bbq grill + restrooms + wide open spaces + leashed dogs allowed (dog waste station with trash can was available) The surrounding area is a bit industrial, but you get past that. My oldest daughter came with me here on January 29, 2026 to check it out. She says it definitely has potential. :) I will also add that it was surprisingly well-maintained - free of trash. I remember walking here with my kindergarten class when I was a teacher at the nearby Jefferson Elementary. Those kids are all grown up and have graduated high school. Sweet memories. Still a fan.

This place was where my mom used to drop me off for all the summer time feels. Seems like I spent a lot of time there. It has been well maintained, but beware... it's a haven for wasps and bees. My oldest was laughing because a wasp got stuck in her little sister's hair. I refrained from joining in the laughter because I know my youngest was actually scared. This pool also offers swim lessons, but the classes fill up incredibly fast. As of June 28, 2026, admission is as follows: Age 17 and under free! Age 18 to 61 $2.00 Age 62 and older free! Their hours are as follows: May 28 to July 28 - Monday to Friday - Closed May 28 to August 1 - Saturdays & Sundays - 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm August 2 - Closed for rest of season So, not a lot of swim time, but it's a break from the heat on the weekends at least. My kiddos & I were invited to a birthday pool party at the Del Norte Aquatic Facility yesterday…read more(July 9, 2026). There was ample parking. As soon as we walked through the gates, we were asked if we were there for the birthday girl. No fee was charged. We were impressed with how large this facility was. The outdoor pool water was very warm if you weren't near the baby pool that had the tall bucket fountain dumping water or the other tall fountain. My restraint of a 5th star: - women's restrooms were not clean. Everything including the bathroom stall walls need to be wiped down! - litter was scattered throughout the gated grounds - at one point we were very confused as to why one of the young male lifeguards was blowing his whistle incessantly at his female counterpart who was talking to an individual embarking her way up the slide stairs. My oldest loved the large yellow enclosed slide more than the slightly smaller white slide, but she & her younger sister went down both of them multiple times. Available on the premises... Many lounge chairs. Some picnic tables. Some canopies and trees. There was also an unkempt sand pit just beyond the large pavilion. Lockers. Restrooms. Showers. The facility is available for party rentals. Plus swimming lessons are offered here. Both fill up extremely fast.

The MLK Soccerplex is the premier outdoor soccer complex in Hobbs, NM…read more It's located on the south side of town on the Eunice Highway. The parking can get chaotic because the spots are crowded in some areas. Plus many folks don't take the time to park between the lines. The lanes are also tight. Once on the field, the soccer fields are not marked. So when the soccer league gives you a map, make sure to screenshot it and save it to your smart phone. The fields this year (March/April 2023) could use a bit of deweeding and more grass care. Field H where my daughter plays is fairly uneven & bumpy. Additionally, if it ever rains here, the fields will surely flood as all 8 soccer fields are in this giant pit-like situation. While there are bleachers, they are a bit on the small side. I suggest bringing foldout chairs. There is also the following: + restrooms + BBQ Grill + pavillions + lights + picnic tables + and a concrete walking trail.

By no means does the Hobbs Veterans Memorial Park possess anywhere near the past and signifance that Normandy does. Still, I walked with one of my young daughters there recently (3/22/2023) to discuss the reason behind veteran memorials and the impact that history has had on us Americans. She is currently 8-years-old & seemed to have grasped these stories very quickly. In Lea County alone, there are "over 8,000 veterans." There are a few in my family. Our neighbors. Our friends. So I think it's important that my children understand freedom comes with a heavy price. Every parent should explain this to their family even if they don't agree with or like the past. In order for us to not repeat the bad events, we have to examine history. We have to be prepared at all times. Moving onto this particular site... There is a small parking lot at no charge. Features of this memorial include: + a large brick sign + flags of America (fly, baby fly!), New Mexico, and POW MIA in addition to all of the United States Armed Forces + F-105 fighter jet used during the Vietnam War + military chopper (I couldn't find any info on its history) + markers honoring each branch of the military & several wars in which the U.S. was involved + 2 placques "in appreciation to the men & women" who served on the Hobbs Army Air Field - which is approximately where the memorial sits today There are a number of individuals to express my gratitude for this, but for now I will say thank you, District 5 City Commissioner and United States Army Veteran Dwayne Penick, for your vision and for helping this dream come true. Thank you Hobbs native and former U.S. Congressman Steve Pearce for locating the jet which was apparently "delivered at no cost to the city." Snyder Park is lies right next to Head Start Child & Family Services in Hobbs, NM…read more I never realized how closed it was also to City Park - they are right next to each other. On the morning of February 1, 2026, my youngest kiddo and I drove to check it out. It is a very clean park in a decent neighborhood. Again, not the best neighborhood, not the worst. I refrained from taking a photo of the pavilion as there was a transient eating his meal there on that peaceful morning. This looks like a swell park for a picnic with younger kiddos. It features: + bbq grill + a large pavilion + picnic tables + two different playground areas + trash receptacles There is a nice large parking lot too. Happy February!

Sanger School Park is located in a fairly nice neighborhood in Hobbs, NM…read more For as long as I have been a little kid growing up in this small town, Sanger Elementary has been at the top of all the good lists. It's still a very good school with many great teachers. The City of Hobbs maintains the "Sanger School Park." They refer to it as that on their website. There are a few different playground equipment areas. One for bigger kids, one for smaller ones. There are some beautiful trees and a few benches too. The park itself has street parking only. Park hours are from 5-10 PM per Hobbs Municipal Schools policies. Leashed dogs are allowed as long as owners clean up after them. Of course, yours truly had to vet this place all over again on a chilly February 1, 2026 morning. Did that silly groundhog see its shadow today or what?

The Hobbs Gun Club is even better with people you trust and early in the morning…read more The Sunday before last, September 14, 2025, all the folks out there were fairly good at range etiquette and communication when my brother asked if he and his son could set up new targets. My dad is an old school silhouette competitor so he of course announced loudly "cease fire" and later "range is open" even after verifying with the other small groups that everyone was back and safe. There are restrooms. My daughter said they weren't bad. The setup is nice. On the furthest side are the shortest bays for pistols. The shotgun range has launchers... geeze, those are shoulder/elbow savers. Lol. The rifle range is shaded with concrete benches and adjustable seats. Buy your $100 year-long membership at The Gun Shack which is no longer on Bender Blvd. Earlier this year, they moved to the plaza near Undergrounds Coffee on Grimes.
