We had multiple phone calls with him leading up to the wedding, and he took the time to really understand our music style, the energy we wanted, and the overall feel we were hoping for. He also walked us through every moment of the day that needed music in such a thoughtful, organized way, which made the entire process feel seamless and easy. On the wedding day, Marcus absolutely nailed it. Every big moment was announced perfectly, everything flowed smoothly, and he brought the exact energy we were hoping for. Brenda was wonderfully helpful in organizing which DJ may be best for our wedding. We went with Gustavo and he was incredibly professional and listened to our needs. I wanted instrumental disney sounds playing in the background as guests arrived so he worked with me to make sure he found what I was looking for. We also had to start our processional and recessional songs at a certain time within the song and he had those all queued up per my requests. We had a phone call weeks before the wedding to talk about what energy and vibe we wanted from our music and then we continued to stay in contact up until the big day. He arrived early and set up for the ceremony and reception and got the mics ready for the ceremony. He was great at taking requests and playing music to keep the dance floor full. It's such a shame to write this review; as you can tell from the positive reviews, it seems like we had a singular experience. But it was a terrible experience, and unfortunately, you only get married once, and there are no redos. Ray the DJ was a part of our contracted services with Desert View Wedding in Apache Junction. DJ Fred was assigned to us. I used their online portal and uploaded all of our specialty songs, special requests, and dancefloor music guidelines. I wasn't too concerned with the DJ, as I assumed they had all the tools they needed to deliver since it was all written in stone. Nonetheless, the week of our wedding came, and I thought it was strange DJ Fred still had yet to contact us, so I sent a highly detailed email breaking down the flow of our day, the specialty songs, and when/how to play them. I abbreviated the songs in this email because he had the exact artist/song name in his portal. BIG MISTAKE. When we chatted on the phone with DJ Fred the day after I sent the email, he was a disorganized and chaotic mess. He clearly did not take the time to prepare for our call and look over our email or the portal. I let our wedding planners know that he seemed disorganized and told them to send him our timeline ASAP so he had even more tools at his disposal to piece the day together (it was simple... we didn't do anything beyond normal). He even called my husband the day before our wedding to ask him what our last dance song was since my husband surprised me with the song choice, which, again, was in the portal--the day of, DJ Fred played the wrong song for our bridal party walking down the aisle. I uploaded Everywhere (acoustic) by Fleetwood Mac into the portal, and he played Everywhere by Michelle Branch. This is a HIGHLY personal moment, and the fact that he screwed it up would've been enough to leave this review, but it gets worse. He kept skipping our speeches and told our guests it was time to eat THREE times! He clearly didn't read/utilize the timeline (our DOC was sick, so we got stuck with the owner of Kristi Marie Events, who was absolutely the worst ever; you can see their review on Wedding Wire/The Knot for their nightmare of a performance. But, my only thought is that our original DOC didn't add the parent speeches to our final timeline even though we emailed about it the month of). Moving on.... our Last Dance. Maybe I am the idiot here, but a last dance is when the couple is solo on the dance floor having a private moment. DJ Fred threw it on when my husband and I weren't even together and ruined what was supposed to be a very special moment for us. We ended up having him play an alternative song so we could still share that closing night moment, and DJ Fred threw it on and walked away in a fit. Truly, it was the worst experience from start to finish; I should've called out the red flags after the first phone call, but given their highly-rated reviews and how utterly clear I was with my directions, I trusted DJ Fred to do his very simple job of just playing the right songs at the right time. My advice? If you work with this company, overcommunicate and do not trust that your DJ "gets it." I know it's easy to think, well, they do this for a living, and how hard can it really be? But I was shocked at how poorly he did his job. Proceed with caution. read more

Jeremy was the very best DJ we could have asked for--he was communicative, helpful, efficient, and he had the absolute BEST music choices throughout our Sunday brunch wedding! We had no idea what type of music to play at a brunch wedding, and he really stepped up and could not have done a better job. He even found great acoustic covers of some songs we'd put on our recommended list! Used them for our wedding in September 2015 and the DJ was by far the worst vendor we had. Our venue(Villa Siena) recommend this DJ service, so we decided to go with them, biggest mistake we could make. Multiple guests at our wedding said how terrible this service was. As my bride was walking down the aisle with her father, the DJ dropped his sunglasses on the equipment causing the music to stop, no big deal mistakes happen. But then he yelled( through the mic) "Oh $hit!" Unacceptable. There were kids in the crowd. Multiple people came up after the ceremony and said how bad that was. How could you not agree? During the reception, his jokes were unwelcome and not funny whatsoever. No big deal. I'm not one to shy away from inappropriate and offensive jokes, but at a formal event over a mic, nope. The music selection we had picked out was not honored at all. He kept playing boring, tired music and no one was dancing, so I being the groom asked him to change to a more upbeat selection. His response was "I can't do that I only play whole songs". I am the groom and I am paying you to play music, I don't care. Not acceptable again. After the elevator music was over, he played "Truffle butter" by Nicki Minaj (and no one had requested this specific song) but he played the unedited version. Look up the lyrics and imagine toddlers, young children and elderly grandparents faces as this happens. It's a good song to play to get the party started but seriously? iPod shuffle with a cracked screen and a low battery could have done a better job. read more

We hired Ray the DJ after extensive dj research for our wedding. There are so many bad djs out there that we wanted to be sure. Ray the DJ has very competitive prices and Brenda who is in the main office is terrific. She answered all of our e-mails quickly and was always very professional. We hired Marcus from Ray and he was awesome!! He meet with us before we even hired him so we could find out about his background and experience. We loved Marcus right away. However, at Ray they give you the chance to choose a different DJ in case you don't "click" with your first DJ. Marcus was very professional and played all the songs we requested and provided us with great suggestions. After the wedding we got so many compliments about our DJ. James Mennes was our DJ, and we were thrilled with how perfectly he performed at our wedding. He drew rave reviews from all of our guests, not just the happy couple. Our primary concern was running the event on schedule so that we could just enjoy the fruits of our preparation. James met us for coffee to discuss the wedding, build a schedule, and confirmed all of the details that we had not even thought about. His preparation was thorough, on point, and enthusiastic. We gave him a list of songs we like, the must-play songs, and the songs related to certain things like first dances. He hit everything, and with his experience, he played great music all night. As far as music goes, not only did he hit our favorites, he knew which requests were important, and played them. He didn't play any poor requests or music we didn't like. The timing on reception events was like clockwork. He entertained our guests during cocktail hour, organized the wedding party for entrance, hit each and every dance with flair, and as we let the event come to us, he was Johnny On The Spot with updates, questions, clarifications, and action to keep it moving so we had nothing to think about but each other and all of our guests. Simply put, hiring Ray The DJ, who assigned James Mennes, was one of the best decisions we made in preparing for our wedding. I will enthusiastically recommend them to anyone looking for DJ services. The decision on the DJ for our wedding was made the moment we met with Jeff from Ray the DJ. He is older for a man of his profession (not a kid in his 20's that you'd expect to be working as a party/event DJ) but it didn't take long for him to win us over. The man is all charm and character. We could tell that he really loved music and what he does. I almost wanted to pull him out from behind the turntables, sit down, and have a few drinks with him. He couldn't have been any better at the reception. He played everything we asked for, flowed perfectly with our timeline (including working with us to finish some schmoozing before moving on to the next part), He could get our guest's attention but never tried to make himself the star of the show, and he knew how to keep the party going. The only negative thing I can say about Jeff was that he took an awful request from my new sister in law (but in all fairness to him, she wanted to dance with her husband to their wedding song, so I can't blame him), but he quickly recovered as soon as the track ended. For our wedding, we were very wary about DJ's because we had been to many wedding where the DJ absolutely sucked.....well not this company! Our DJ was Mike, and he was awesome! We met two or three times prior to the wedding just to go over everything, and Mike made sure that he had all the correct info. My dad STILL says how great he was, and our wedding was over 2 months ago! We constantly heard how great he was from many ages of our guests. I would recommend this company to anyone looking for a good time. Mike also was the MC for the wedding, and he did a great job! No complaints in any way at all! Their website is also very very helpful when it comes to picking songs. We weren't picky about songs, and chose to trust him when it came to the music, and boy are we happy we did that! As with all of our vendors, we did our own homework opposed to getting a recommendation from someone. Ray the DJ, and more specifically DJ Marcus, were great! Breanna was very quick to respond to my questions and chose Marcus for us based on our preferences. She put us in touch and we immediately received a phone call from Marcus introducing himself and offering to FaceTime so we could put a face with the name. He was excellent with communication and followed up on his own just to see how things were coming along in the months/weeks leading up to our wedding. As far as the actual ceremony and reception, it was flawless! He played exactly what we wanted and kept the energy up on the dance floor all night. I thought because I gushed all I've Facebook about our DJ that I had Yelped our great DJ, Teffanie, from RAY the DJ in Tempe...but apparently I didnt! So I'm doing it now! I have always said there were a few things I hated when I went to wedding receptions. One is the long boring wait while photos are taken, and two is sitting at a table trying to pass the time talking to people in ear splitting loud music!! I go home with ringing ears, a sore throat and I still don't know the lady's name that I sat next to!!!! So the DJ we picked was really important to me. Teffanie was on time, did her research for music we requested, looked beautiful...and then she preceded to engage our guests like nothing we had ever seen before. She played fun, new, clean games. She had them applauding and laughing and they didn't even notice the time passing for pictures. Not only were his prices $250 below all the others, he was friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to ensure I got what I wanted. He offered several add-ons to my package, but never pushed. He communicated with me regularly and gave suggestions, but never tried to steer me away from the music and vision I had for my reception. One word.....FANTASTIC!!! We had Jeff as our DJ for our wedding and we could not have asked for a better person. We had asked our venue for someone that liked to joke around, was great with a younger crowd and played a wide range of music.
