SKM entertainment was referred to us by our wedding planner. We can say this was one of the best investments we made! Gary was our MC who promised us this would be the most memorable night of our lives, and he did not disappoint and exceeded our expectations. One example was I had requested a song on our online planner, it was a Disney song, I didn't expect them to play it during dinner but then out of no where Be My Guest from Beauty and the Beast came on and my Disney heart became full. Gary and team was able to read the audience vibe and kept the dance floor going all night. I would also add that we live in Washington and phone meetings with them went well and smoothly. This review is not about the actual DJ service provided, but rather management. Our large 200 person wedding was lost in May of 2020 we ended up having a 14 person wedding in December. Obviously, a DJ was not needed. To keep it short SKM has refused to refund our deposit even though the only time they spent with us was a one hour meeting to go over their process, time which I offered to compensate them for. All of our other providers; photog, venue, wedding planner all worked with us on lowering the price or full refunds. The only offer was to let us use the deposit as a credit for the future even though I told them we have no plans for anything that large. I am writing this review so other newly engaged couples can stay clear of this slimy excuse for a business. You MUST choose wisely because a DJ can either make or break your entire event! Let me start of by saying I spent months creating the perfect playlist for the ceremony, cocktail hour, background music while eating dinner, and reception. Every single song I hand picked because I had an envision of exactly what I wanted. Music was the ONE thing in my event that was most important to me and my now husband. A couple weeks before our event we met with our MC Gerardo - who seemed ecstatic about us hand selecting all the music for our event. It was very easy because ALL of the songs were on a portal and I just typed next to the song when this song should be played, whether it be during dinner or during the ceremony, etc. We made it very clear we have a very large do not playlist and that we absolutely HATE cheesy wedding music. Gerardo said he understood and that we don't need to worry. My husband and I walked away from the meeting feeling excited and confident that he'll do great. The wedding rolls around and I noticed none of my music was being played for background music before the ceremony.. I thought oh well. THEN he plays the wrong song for the wedding party to walk down to, and the exit songs keeps skipping like it was on a scratched CD. I thought to myself... oh well.. mistakes happen. Didn't think much into it. Cocktail hour was supposed to last 45 minutes but it ended up being an hour and 20 because they couldn't get our uplighting downstairs working correctly.. and yes. We also hired SKM for our lighting.. Once again big mistake. They finally got it working along the rims of the wall were these big bulky white cubes that all of our guests kept tripping over. Apparently that's what they use for their up lighting to shoot the color up the wall? I was imagining sleek design as I've seen it in the past at previous weddings. but these were definitely an eye sore. Before Gerardo was about to announce the wedding party he handed my planner a sheet of all the names, my planner glances at it and realizes that that was the WRONG wedding! He had someone's else's wedding party on the sheet.. THANK GOD my planner caught that.. I have a feeling that's why he didn't have any of my music.. maybe because he thought he was Djing for THAT wedding that night... he also mispronounced my name and a couple of my girls' names... go figure! ;) Reception finally begins and of course Gerardo plays ALL cheesy wedding music that play a million times over and over and over on the radio. Something that I begged him not to do. I went up to the dj booth and asked him what was happening and he said sorry, "bare with me! The next song all your music will start" he kept telling me and my husband that all night long! He wasn't being honest with us.. so I pulled my event coordinator aside and asked her what was happening and she told me that he's lost EVERYTHING. I thought ok.. but why isn't he just being honest with me instead of covering it up? It's making things worse. The owner of the business ended up coming during the night to get ahold on things. Not once did he come up to dan and I and apologize. NOT ONCE! Dan and I paid $3,700 for this joke of an entertainment business and I was definitely excepting an apology from Gerardo or better yet the business owner.. Or even compensation. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this poorly ran business. read more

I gotta say, I was very excited to use SKM for my wedding but I was admittedly a bit disappointed with how things turned out. I purchased one of the top tier wedding packages for my wedding about a year and a half in advance. I had been assigned a girl and her fiancée to emcee and DJ my wedding but she called a few days prior to my wedding to tell me she caught Covid so they would be sending me a different team in their place. The part of the night that I was mostly embarrassed and disappointed with was when we were introduced as bride and groom into the reception area there was a massive delay in our introduction song cueing up. By the time we walked in and over to the dance floor the music was just starting up when it should have already ended. We then were standing in the middle of the room awkwardly in silence while the DJ then fumbled to find our first dance song. It was embarrassing. The song requests were hindered all night because they were having issues staying connected to the Wi-Fi which admittedly is probably not their fault. I just expected a much more polished product for the money I spent especially during those really important hi-lights of the night. read more

Ashley and her DJ (so sorry, day of was crazy I never got her name) were absolutely a pleasure to work with. Very easy going, I was organizing the wedding myself with a 4 month deadline and Ashley (MC) did a great job of accommodating our requests and really tailoring the wedding and music to our taste. Our DJ was even a huge Star Wars fan so that was a perfect fit with our Wedding theme. My now husband lived in Ireland and we were able to do skype calls so he could be included. The day of improvisation was amazing, Ashley helped put a boutonniere back together right before the ceremony, the music during was perfect timing for the ceremony. We forgot our lightsabers for our first dance and the marriage certificate and she rearranged the flow of things so the guests never even knew we had to go get them. She kept the flow of the wedding perfect and I got so many compliments on the flow because their never seemed to be a lull in the excitement. She kept the whole day together and on schedule which was important because the park had a strict time for no noise we were able to keep to. We met the owner Miles at an Arizona Bridal Show and he completely sold us on picking them to be our wedding DJs. I asked about a thousand questions and he answered every single one of them and really made me feel reassured that they could handle any crowd, size or event. We had 200 people at our wedding at Villa Siena and these guys showed up on time, set everything up, and had my guests dancing and having fun the ENTIRE night. They got my 80 year grandma to lead a congo line! I had Kevin as my MC who unfortunately isn't at the company anymore (my wedding was his last), but I would feel confident booking them again and trusting that any staff member would do a great job. Couldn't even get my wife's name right when they announced us for our grand entrance (her name is Jessica not Chelsea), refused to use my parents' names. Set up on the sweetheart table instead of the tables they requested, and didn't move after they realized they made a mistake. Ben (the DJ) was in over their head, and I'm surprised. They have great reviews. My wedding day was on 10/10, and they still haven't made an effort to rectify the situation, and now they are dodging my phone calls. ttended a recent wedding with SKM entertainment. Was very disappointed in how the evening was handled and music played. Gary spent a lot of time talking and made it feel like it was his day and not the bride and groom. He spent time telling us the rules of the event, only take one party favor, how to react when the wedding party walked in etc. We are adults we know Then telling the wedding party how to hold the mic during speeches, forcing people to get in circles for what I would call activity like things which made it fell like we were in grade school. He was treating everyone there like we were 10 years old. The songs had no flow to them, it was more dance club music not wedding reception music. The bride and groom had a playlist of songs, they were mainly country inspired since that is what they liked, and none of those songs were played the entire night. It was very hard to dance too and keep a flow. Did a very poor job of reading the crowd since he would play a classic song that got the dance floor full and then roll into some crap club music junk and everyone would leave. Very poor at reading the crowd the entire night which really put a damper on the whole reception and kept people off of the dance floor. Then besides the first dance, dad/daughter dance and mother/son dance were the only slow songs played all night! The bride had asked for a few others on her list and again nothing just what Gary wanted apparently. Several people commented that he was not receptive on song suggestions and very rude when asked to play a song. Again the bride and grooms desired list of songs was never played! It is there day and if you don't like what they want to play then tough as they are the customer! He was asked what it would cost for another hour of time and was quoted ridiculous several thousand dollar cost to add 1 hour of time added and then demanded a 18% tip! We would have liked another hour of time but honestly if he would have stopped talking we probably would have gotten another hour of time, however the poor music choices and lack of respect for the bride and groom it was for the better. I think we would have had a better time as group with a Bluetooth speaker and Pandora on a phone. At least the bride and groom would have gotten songs they wanted. I would seriously look for another DJ for your event or wedding day and would highly NOT recommend. read more

Searched for several months to find just the right DJ, as truly, they can make or break a good party...and SKM did not disappoint! We had the pleasure of working with Gary Jenkins and he did an amazing job! He was a fantastic host by keeping the party going through games, dancing, and getting the crowd involved the entire night! We hired him for an additional 3 hours and he stayed upbeat the entire time. He was so involved with our group that the groom and I actually had enough time to get a bite to eat in without being pulled away by our guest. Prior to the event, SKM met with us even before we booked where they offered suggestions on timelines, games to play (ex: newlywed game), and showed pictures of the different uplighting options, dancing on the clouds, etc. I really appreciated being able to see examples of each before committing to a package. Some of the items in the package we bought didn't fit our event, but SKM was flexible to exchange these items for a discount or for other items we were interested in. As far as Gary goes, he met with us weeks before our event to get to know us and see how we envisioned our special night. He truly listened to our ideas and made our night incredible. After high recommendations, my family and I hired Dave Bernstein as the MC. Since my wedding was on a Monday for sentimental reasons, Gary Jenkis was available and wanted to DJ. Dave promised my family we were getting the "A team" but this was a mistake. Not only were songs played on the do not play list, but Gary did not turn off the music during a fire alarm. The restaurant above the lounge at the Buttes had a controlled fire that set off the smoke detectors. This did not seem to bother Gary however as he allowed guests to dance as staff were trying desperately to escort guests to safety. Many of my guests were over the age of 50 and did not like loud music. Thank goodness it was not a real emergency. Dave and Gary not only continued to turn the music up but would play songs that were meaningful at inappropriate times. I thought they were suppose to be professionals at knowing how to read the crowds, and play requested songs. The fact that I cried on the night after my wedding over my brothers and mom both missing the garter toss and bouquet toss is hard to put in words. Dave promised all important people would be at every major moment. I think my mom and two brothers were clearly identified as important people. Dave couldn't manage the event as he had sold himself on being excellent at directing and entertaining to make every event he's done run smoothly. His anxiety and lack of leadership showed when he asked me and my new husband to "fix" his mistake after my mom found out she missed it. He even did a conga line despite my husband and I specifically telling him not to. I can honestly say that the insult to injury, as if stealing all the moments you can never recreate wasn't enough, the owner Miles Gilbert offered a refund of half the cost ($1500) then revoked it after several days due a sudden request. IF we wanted the refund my parents, my husband and myself HAD TO sign a legal document to never post negative reviews and police others who may post about our wedding event. I'm mortified and seriously wish with all my being I could take back this decision to go with SKM entertainment. The refund would have been a nice gesture but he turned it into a emotional game. I think if you do end up going with them, you can expect the DJ and MC to enjoy themselves at your event and make you feel like the bad guy when they screw up. read more

A long over-due review. Justin was incredible. He is the ideal DJ/MC that a bride and groom can dream of. It would be difficult to list all the amazing qualities of a DJ/MC but Justin had them all. We didn't interact very much with Justin in the beginning. The beginning was figuring out what we wanted in terms of special lighting, special effects and sound. The team at SKM was spectacular. Given that it was an out of town wedding, we met Justin a week before our wedding in Arizona. In a span of about two hours, Justin made us feel confident and excited about the wedding. He had great recommendations for music and even crooned a few first dance song suggestions. Very charismatic and fun. Justin was our biggest hit at the wedding. All our guests loved Justin. He was so into the wedding, taking photos, making sure the guests were hanging fun, and setting the example for the energy in the room. Honestly, I don't know how he did it. We had approx 150 guests and most of them were on the dance floor all night long. Throughout the night, Justin coordinated giving out the party goodies (i.e. glow in the dark glasses, sticks, finger links, etc.). He even coordinated the photo of everyone throwing fake money in the air. We used an event app to share photos throughout the wedding celebration. Justin was posting photos from the beginning and he even got the last shot in -- the best one. As the bride, I was most impressed with how Justin kept the schedule on time (cake cutting, bouquet toss, multiple toasts, karaoking from guests, etc.). Our photographers and videographers needed to get dancing shots and he made sure to insert early dancing time without confusing people. Everything went smoothly and I didn't even have a dedicated event coordinator! Justin was our event coordinator at the reception. He's the total package! I highly highly recommend Justin. If I could rate them worse I would. We hired them for our DJ company for our wedding day and there were serval things that went wrong on their end. To start, the audio went completely out for the entire ceremony and no one did anything to fix it. After the ceremony, my husband checked the mic that was attached to him and it was on mute. They tired To blame this on our videographers mic saying that it interferes with the signal. However, the videographers mic was Lavalier microphone (you can giggle this) which is a digital recorder. It does not transmit any signal it simply records onto an external recording device. Two guests and another tech company present at our wedding mentioned how old and poor quality their equipment was. There were many other things that really upset us on our special day relating to this company. We met the MC prior to the wedding and we discussed a few details about the right (announcements to be made, ending solo dance,etc) were not done and there was no given reason. In addition, during our wedding reception my wedding planner came up to me and stated that she was told by our MC that we have two choice to pay for an extra 30 minutes or the music will stop. I was completely caught off guard as we had, in writing, that they were contracted to be there until 11. Needless to say we were charged for that time. After the wedding when we brought our concerns to Miles he was extremely rude and argumentative upon our request for a refund. If I have any advice for any future customers... please go somewhere else! Please do not let this company have the opportunity to taint a special day for you whether it's a wedding, party or corporate event. We will never get the special day back and it makes me sick to my stomach thinking how a company who you hire to be experts in their specific field could have such low level performance expectations and unprofessional standards. read more

These wonderful people did our wedding this past March and I just have to say it was an absolute joy and pleasure to work with them! Miles and his group were very accommodating and the flow of the wedding was fantastic. We had people come from all over and my cousins in Florida commented how great of a time it truly was! I had no idea of where to start when looking for DJ services for my wedding. SKM was the first and only company we met with. They hooked us as soon as we had our initial meeting with them! I tried to research what the average cost for a wedding DJ in the area is, and to be honest, SKM was a little more pricey than my initial thought. However, we absolutely made room for them in our budget once we met with them and saw how AWESOME they are. Each of their DJ's go through a training process and aren't even allowed to take on an event until they pass. We were set up with an online planner to fill out music for the entire night. (Awesome when I was saving tons of random songs as they popped up on the radio during my year of planning.) We even decided to add a photobooth at the last minute and it was perfect and hilarious. We met with our DJ Kevin a few weeks before the wedding and he was, in a word, glorious. He made me feel so at ease and I knew we wouldn't have to worry about anything on our night. SKM was one of the best decisions I made! well besides saying yes to my now husband. :) I started speaking to Leslie after booking my venue a year before our wedding who was so sweet and helpful. My husband and I are a very goofy couple and I wanted that incorporated throughout the wedding. We had our wedding at the Phoenix Zoo and I had a few surprises up my sleeves I wanted incorporated that I was hoping our DJ would be able to help with. During the initial meeting after speaking to us and seeing our goofy personality she already knew exactly who to pair us up with, Dave Bernstein. Not only did he grow up wit the same religious background but he also has done weddings incorporating the religious dances and customs. He also use to be a stand up comic and had a similar goofy loving personality. I was completely sold and was so excited to meet him. When we had a meeting with him as our MC and got to meet our DJ Keekee I was instantly calmed with the added stress of COVID and the normal wedding planning. We became instant friends and communicated daily with my ongoing questions and additions. He had a wedding the night before and I know him and the DJ KeeKee only got about 3 hours of sleep and Dave lost his poor voice but was still determined to make sure to be by our side on our wedding day. We gave 2 energy drinks and hot tea to each to make sure they were well caffeinated for our crazy wedding and all the Shenanigans we incorporated within the wedding. Dave went above and beyond and made sure to take care of everything including became my wedding coordinator and I am so thankful to have had him by my side! I surprised my husband with singing my vows and Dave kindly surprised us with recording it. It meant the world to me that I can always look back on this special moment. They both worked so hard and made sure every surprise we wanted including the singing vows, mash up father daughter dance, surprise mother daughter dance and birthday shout out to my cousins little girl ran perfectly. After meeting with another local DJ company we wanted to do our due diligence and booked time with SKM based on the recommendation of our wedding planner, Jennifer Starr. We first met Melissa, who was beyond accommodating and easy to work with. She gave us an awesome presentation and was very patient with our budget. During our meeting, we also met Miles, the owner, who knew our venue and gave us immediately gave us suggestions on how to maximize SKM services with space. On to the wedding day: DJ Justin was incredible from the moment we met him to the day-of. He listened to us intently to get a feel for who we are and almost immediately understood the entire vibe we wanted to convey. It is no wonder why our wedding planner (who has worked with him several times) was so thrilled that he was our SKM DJ. Justin was instrumental in not only bringing the party to life but also in allowing us to customize special moments including a song by my husband's father (which meant the world to us). He also had the wonderful idea working a memorial song ("My Way") for my late grandfather, as the anniversary dance. Several if not nearly all of our guests said: "it was the best wedding I've ever attended." We planned our wedding from Michigan and SKM was on the preferred vendor list with our venue. After meeting in person with Leann we booked SKM and requested a bilingual DJ because our wedding included both English and Spanish speaking guests. We were pleased to find out we were able to get a bilingual DJ Gerardo. He was very sweet and accommodating to all our requests. We had to move our timeline up because our videographer was leaving early and Gerardo coordinated with the coordinator at our venue and videographer so we would get all the video we wanted (toasts, cake cutting,). He played the songs we listed on our song list and played each song correctly for the ceremony, intro, first dance. He would also translate during each event to make sure all guests knew what was going on. He was fun, energetic, on time and dressed professionally. I visited a friends wedding in Anthem, Arizona and was so impressed by these Djs! They were amazing! They had a great selection of music and were attentive to the guests music requests. I was most impressed at the Djs ability to have the audience engaged in all the activities before the dancing. From cake cutting, to introductions, they rocked! For all the wall flowers and non dancers (me) they had created a few methods of getting us to dance too. I just got back from my little brothers wedding were we had Dave Bernstien as our MC. I absolutely could not be happier the things went. He took charge of every second of the wedding and made sure it was nothing less then AMAZING. Thru ought the night Dave would check on us to make sure that everything was going smoothly. I can't say enough great things about SKM. They did a fabulous job for our event. The intelligent lighting and thumping bass made a fancy country club feel like a trendy night club. We had an unfortunate event happen at the bridal expo with this company. We actually considered using their services until my fiancé and I were blatantly discriminated against and humiliated in front of an entire crowd. We are a lesbian couple, we can be legally married, it's 2016, I believe the Speaker was josh/Justin?, he stated the next groom to get on stage would win his girl a free wedding gown, Laura, my fiancé and technically my "groom" ran up on stage first. The MC discounted her as a groom even as me and my friends and family screamed in the stands stating she counted. He said "whoops I forgot those things happened." Insensitive and rude. He continued to give the prize to the straight couple. After the show he gave us a forced apology and when we protested he said "I'm not going to do anything." He really should be ashamed of himself. We had free coupons from earlier we tried to give away in the crowd but others were so disgusted with his treatment of us they refused to take the free money. Shame on you SKM. read more

They called days before our wedding saying we were responsible for their table and table skirting because it was at a residence. This was not agreed on during our initial booking or at the run through with our mc. Our big day we arrived and they were playing horrible elevator music. My mother, photographers and finally my husbands father had to pretty much yell at for them to change the music.Our ceremony was supposed to start at five and our photographer had to ask them to let everyone know to be seated.The mixed up our walk down the isle song. We had been reassured questions for the shoe game would be proof read and appropriate things would be asked. To me who would be a stripper first or who likes to sleep naked aren't appropriate. We also agreed that we would have a well wishes dance no mention of money whatsoever. Our mc said line up for the well wishes dance or better known as the money dance if you'd like to give them your dollars. & to make it even better the first song they played for this dance was I want to be a millionaire so f***ing bad. No edit for that song I guess because it just continues to spew out the f word and nobody bothered to change the song. I had to argue with them that we couldn't cut the cake until our photographers were done eating and not in the bathroom. But they continued to insist now now now! Why would we cut the cake with no photographers ready!?!? As the night rolled around the one and only dog I requested got shut down and they told me there was lots of requests ahead of mine and my husbands. Last time I checked it was our wedding so we should get moved to the front of the line.As the night came to an end our mc found my sister to make her get him a plate so that he could take cake home to his wife because he always had to bring her a piece....He also came around and told us goodbye over and over im assuming for a tip but after spending 2500 on them and horrible customer service and lack of professionalism why would we tip them. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would! Researched a bunch and these guys looked great at first. Tried setting up an appointment with our busy schedule and the wedding about 4 weeks away to solidify their services. Had to make numerous requests just to get some type of pricing prior to our appointment so we can have an idea of which packages we might be interested in. That seemed to be an almost impossible task! After finally getting an appointment to meet them 2 weeks before the wedding they called the night prior to our appointment to tell me they are now booked up after leading us on for the last 2 weeks! Out of all the DJ services I have already contacted this one has been by far the MOST difficult/unorganized entertainment service! My opinion, save yourself the headache and find another entertainment organization that won't do this to you! read more

Take this away from this post if nothing else: the MC is key to a successful wedding, and Justin NAILED IT! We have been to a lot of weddings in the past 3 years, and when it came time for ours we knew the DJ can make or break the reception. Now, you're thinking that the DJ is what you are shopping for... and that's a mistake. Anyone can spin music these days. The bottom line is that the MC is really what you are after. Don't get me wrong... the DJ at our wedding was awesome about feeling the tempo of the crowd and knowing just what to play next. He nailed it, too (I especially love the memory of the impromptu "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey to end our reception--with everyone singing at the top of their lungs!). Getting back to Justin, though... he was such a pro! Guests have commented about the "flow" of our reception and how much better it was compared to other weddings (and we agree!). This is because of the careful planning and preparation Justin put into the event. For example, he expertly guided us to have a quick dance for everyone before settling in for dinner. Let the guests burn off a little energy after sitting through a boring ceremony. Smart. This is just an example of how the rest of the night played out. And he wasn't "cheese", like you might picture of an MC. He appropriately kept the party going and would make sure our dance floor remained full and fun throughout the night. The tandem MC+DJ concept is absolutely the way to go. The other weddings we went to recently only had a DJ and we can't overstate how much of a difference it makes. Get less flowers and splurge here! read more
