Total scam. These guys are brokers who--despite countless reassurances that they are NOT a third party--disappear off the face of the planet after you book with them. We were given a complete sham of a quote and told 8pm the night before our cross country move that another company was managing the move. We spent more than double what Razor quoted us and four days layer still have no idea where our belongings are or when we'll receive it. This is a warning to anyone considering a move with any company. This company appeared to have good reviews, but there was one recent bad review. The gist of it was that the complainant did not know that they only offer a refund with 72 hours of the reservation being made. It is clearly on the contract, BUT you don't see that until after signing. So, my initial contact with Razor was with Kim Davis. She was pleasant and over eager to tell me about every super cool detail of the service Razor offers. She even said to check out the review on all moving companies, including Razor. We went over the contents of my home to get me an estimate. The estimate was about $2000 more than I wanted to spend, and she lowered the price by about $1600 to get my business. I verified that I COULD CANCEL AT ANY TIME with a full refund. I even had my wife come upstairs and put her on speaker phone and confirm to both of us that it was fully refundable at any time. She only requested that we cancel at least two days before the scheduled move, which is completely understandable. So, I signed the agreement and it popped up with the contract. The contract said it required cancellation within 72 hours or no refund. So, I called back immediately. I couldn't reach Kim, but the other person said she could answer my questions, so I told her Kim had promised me that I could cancel at any time and I wanted it in writing. Kim emailed me later that day with the following: Steve #@$&*&, This email is to confirm that if you cancel, that the deposit is 100% refundable that you paid today. I'll start with: LISTEN TO THE REVIEWS. They are true. A bunch of people did not get together and leave 1 star reviews for their health. An absolute 100% scam. If you're reading all the other one star reviews BELIEVE THEM! I made the mistake of letting them convince me the reviews were false but they are not! Exactly what many of the reviews state happened to me! They underquote you to get you to sign a binding contract so they can take a nonrefundable deposit. They give you a bunch of phony discounts to make it look like you're saving so much money but it's all fake. I told the salesman Thomas this was my concern because I was about to cancel the experience altogether before authorizing the $600 deposit. He said not only am I bound but they are too and the number WILL NOT change. They ask for a bank account number because they think you won't be able to dispute it. Then they try to run it as a paper check (my bank told me this). Which also shows just how outdated and crappy their processes are. But I have navy fed so they were able to cancel the check. That shit just doesn't fly anymore in this digital age. He assured me the reviews were just people who didn't read the contract or tried to SCAM THEM by adding objects last minute. So I did my deposit. A few weeks later I get a call to do the quality assurance check, he asks me about all my furniture, and i realized a few small things like a little 30 inch tv, he told me to overestimate my boxes so i did, and there's a chair. Literally things that could just be stacked on top of each other. Or i could just put in my car. Tell me how this raised my quote from 1700 to 4k? And they wanted to ask me for another 1k for the deposit TODAY. Claiming "it's usually 2k but I added your veterans discount and mine." Literally a veteran trying to scam another veteran. But he was a marine so what could you expect? So I got on the phone with the supervisor who proceeded to talk over me and try to make me feel stupid. I told him LOOK, you can either refund me and we cut ties, or I can make it difficult and get my money back and also leave reviews on every site and also contact the BBB and attorney generals. Then when I talked over him he got an attitude about it. "You signed a contract you signed a contract you're not getting your money back." which is what every scamming company says. okay BET. Right after I had my bank cancel the check and it took all of five minutes, the funds came back immediately. Hopefully, like most businesses, they get charged a returned check fee or something. What really got me was when he tried to explain the bed. I told them I had a king bed from the jump. The salesman put it in as a mattress, but the quote specifically said "1 - bed, king (with mattress)" So any sane person knows this means a king sized bed WITH A MATTRESS. Broken items, crushed boxes, bent items, MISSING items, "lost"?. One price quoted, changed at pickup. Said we packed incorrectly and the pick up people had to pack/wrap properly... for additional money. We waited patiently for our shipment to arrive only to have family heirlooms broken, furniture broken, boxes clearly marked FRAGILE were crushed. They kept/lost several items. Razor Van Lines called back first. I thought the price they gave me sounded good. As I look at other reviews reviews it's the same story I went through. You get a price, the day before the move it goes up. The day of the move it goes up, the day they arrive it goes up again. When the stuff arrives, some items are missing some are damaged. Spoke to manager and her exact words were, we were told this morning they didn't have drivers to pick up, when asked why didn't we receive a call as we are waiting and have the freight doc blocked off we were told, "we had no information". This is United American Moving under another name which currently has 95+ complaints with the BBB (Razor has 33+). Horrible move with them and their subcontractor. Estimate was only 50% accurate when the movers actually arrived, despite measuring and listing every single item with United/Razor in advance. Lots of hidden charges we only discovered the day of the move when we had no other options. They changed the company name in the middle of our move without notifying us, so when we tried to contact them, numbers were disconnected, emails bounced back. We tried working directly with the subcontractor (Brooklyn Moving) to find out where our stuff was/when it would be delivered 11 days after our move-in date. Getting nowhere, we reached out to United/Razor and asked them to help rectify the situation either by pressuring the subcontractor for answers on the delivery date or to get a partial refund. We proceeded to be berated and talked over during a 30-minute phone call with a "customer service" rep. - She said if we asked questions, the moving company would become hostile, not answer our calls, deliver our stuff "when they feel like it" - She accused us of threatening her and her company for saying we would be making a complaint to the BBB and FWCSA for hidden charges, fees more than double the estimate and delivery timeframe not stated in our contract - She told us to, "Go ahead and leave a complaint, there's a million of them" We received our stuff a month after they packed it up through yet another subcontractor who arrived without movers, so we had to unload ourselves despite paying for the service. If I could give a ZERO star rating, I would!!! This has been the worst experience I have ever had moving (and I work for the government so I have had many experiences). PLEASE read this whole review so you don't have the same situation happen to you!! At first everything was going good... I had a 30 day closing time frame, so reached out (through Angie's List) and Ryan from Razor called me almost immediately. He was very friendly and informative and was expressing how his company was one of the best. Unfortunately I fell for it. Communication was good up until 2 days before my move. The Thursday before my scheduled pickup I got a call, verifying the stuff I had to be picked up and made some adjustments (which almost doubled the price). I was told I would receive a call no later than the day before my "first" scheduled date (they give a 2 day window for the packing). The day before my "moving day" I still hadn't gotten a call. I sent emails but never heard anything back. On the Monday morning I called Ryan's number but he didn't return my call (and subsequent calls to his voice mail were stopped because his box was full - or he was blocking me). I then called the 888 number, after 50 minutes in the "queue" I finally spoke to someone and they said..."we have two days blocked for you so you will get a call later today." OK, so mid day I got a call from the "driver" saying he was running behind and needed a couple extra days for the pickup (he said he was still in CO on another job). I told him I didn't have a couple more days, I scheduled the move to coincide with my closing. He said "I will call my supervisor and they will get back to you". NOTHING...no call. By late afternoon I still hadn't heard anything so I called the 888 number. After 80 minutes in the queue, I spoke with Victoria, she was pleasant and said she might have a backup option and would call me back in the morning. Next morning...crickets...nothing. So I called again to the 888 number (after trying Ryan again and still full voicemail). After 45 minutes I spoke to another woman (I was so frustrated I didn't get her name). She said "in paragraph 14, it states that we aren't responsible for delays". She also stated "it isn't like we have trucks right here in our parking lot." I was basically told that the almost $3000 that I have pre-paid for this service was non-refundable because they are not responsible for the delays. I ended up having to rent a U-Haul, purchase a bunch of boxes and myself and my two 70+ y/o friends packed my condo and loaded it into the truck, so I could meet my obligation of being out of my home for the closing deadline. I did get a call from Victoria today (only because I sent a scathing email requesting a refund) and she basically said sorry, the delay was not our fault and we were willing to "reschedule" your packing/move but you chose not to accept a different date. Of course I didn't...I follow through with my obligations! How a company stays in business with this type of service I do not understand. I wish I had read the Yelp reviews before I gave these thieves a $1200 deposit, but I was in a hurry. (The one good review had to be from the owner's mother, because this "company" is a total and complete scam.) My cross-country move had been planned out pretty well. I just didn't realize I had three pods worth of stuff in my little apartment, so when the two pods filled up on Friday morning and I still had stuff to move, I frantically called every company I could find to see who could come get the last of my belongings before I left town in my car the following Monday. Thomas from Razor Van Lines was sure that there was space on a truck the next day... as long as I got them the deposit asap. I did. The contract said Saturday OR Sunday, but he had talked to the movers and they said they could get to me on Saturday, so... After waiting around all day, I called. Michelle from Razor Van Lines told me it would be Saturday OR Sunday like my contract said... OR Monday if they got busy. I didn't hear anything on Sunday, so I called Monday morning to see if I could get a time window. Michelle said it would be between 3 and 5pm. I waited around all day Monday and called again. (5pm in California is 8pm in Florida, so their closing time of 7pm EST is particularly inconvenient if you don't know you have an issue until the movers don't show at 5pm!) ...but Michelle answered and told me Tuesday between 3 and 5pm. I spoke to Michelle again on Wednesday morning, and she said she spoke with the carrier who was finishing up a job, and that they would be to me "this afternoon." When I called Wednesday afternoon, Michelle said that it would either be "this afternoon or tomorrow morning." When I pressed her for an answer, she passed me off to Kyle who told me that my move would be completed on Friday or Saturday, at which point I expressed my dissatisfaction with a few choice words. Kyle put me on hold for a while before he disconnected my call. At this point, I wouldn't trust them if they told me the sky was blue. Booked approximately 1week in advance schedule pickup 07.15 - 07.16 on 07.14 received a call from trucking company stating they would pickup between 1200 / 1500 hrs on 07.16, on 07.16 received call from broker razor van lines approximately 1000 stating the truck had "technical difficulties " (NO SHOW) and will not arrive as scheduled and stated truck to arrive Friday 07.17 between 1100 and 1500 at this time we requested service failure due commitment to arrive 07.16 Thursday, at this time phone stated no way do we get a REFUND and to see #14 on estimate and I noticed that reading other reviews razor van lines seems to bank on #14 and #22 states that management can AUTHORIZE A REFUND. When I called back after rep hung up on and requested to speak with management the said I will absolutely not receive a REFUND. Reading the contract it is setup in a way that no matter what the customer is not in titled to 1 refund 2 pickup 3 delivery 4 schedule. The people answering the phone will not let speak to the company rep that was readily available before receiving MY MONEY. BACK IN THE DAY THE CUSTOMER RECEIVED QUALITY SERVICE AND RESPECT..... A sales rep, Tom promised me a move that would happen on a specific date and would be delivered 1 day after pickup. 24 hours before, someone was supposed to call me and confirm, I didn't hear anything, so I called this company. I spoke with Shelby, very very very rude. So nasty, talks over you constantly, a true Karen. She then explained to me that Tom should have never promised me a particular date because they have a two day window, but he put me on hold, to act like he was confirming a truck. He told me these exact words " I found a truck for you, and they will be there on Wednesday" I said okay, but can you confirm that it will be there on Thursday? He then said well technically we have to give a two-day window for drop off, but you're only going 300 miles, they will be able to get your items to you on Thursday." He tells me this after I explained to him a previous company screwed me over and that he could guarantee the move, because he had a truck in my area and that he's "sooo sorry of what happened to me previously and he was sure I would have a better experience with them" WRONG!!! Tom lied to me just to get a deposit and even offered a ACH, BIG MISTAKE. This place is a SCAM! DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE. They are a SCAM. I made this mistake and have been in constant regret for it. Moving is already stressful but they made it 1000x more difficult. Not only did they NOT SHOW but then they WOULDN'T REFUND US. They'll take your money and that's it. My advice is to use another service or go to U-Haul. We did that -- went to U-Haul. It was fast, easy and just as inexpensive but without the billion headaches and problems. Don't believe them. And I wouldn't trust these people with anything, ever. So, this is a third party company/broker and not a moving company. This company owns no trucks nor have they driven/moved anyone. Instead of giving a deposit to brokers to help find a moving company, I could do that myself and that's the point of getting quotes. I googled Angie's List, because I wanted a moving company and I know that Angie's List has a great reputation. Angie's List asked me to sign in and I don't have an account. Then other movers came up on my computer screen and I mistakenly thought these were recommended by Angie's List. I saw Razor Van Lines and called them. The sales rep went by the name of Robert Smith. I have reason to believe now that he changes his name for every new caller. He was very friendly and gave me a really great price. Telling me that the deposit is $706 requiring cash or e-check. Then upon arrival to load, my charge would be $500. Then when they drop things off, there would be another charge of $500. For a total of $1700 to transport about 2000 lbs. or less from Rudolph, Ohio to Springville, Utah. I realize now that Razor Van Lines is a third party company and they are just a broker. They can't dictate what the trucker will charge for pickup and delivery. They just took my deposit and didn't deliver anything. My pickup was suppose to be June 25, 2020 from noon to 6:00 p.m. My family and I waited for the six hours. Two of us had to drive an hour and 45 minutes to the warehouse location owned by another family member and an hour and 45 minutes back. At 5:59 p.m. on the first day, we received an email saying that our pickup would be the next day. So again, we drove the hour and 45 minutes to the warehouse and waited for six hours and no truck came. We tried to call but everytime we got to the top of the list after waiting for a long time, we would get a lady coming on and asking for the job number. Then she would say she will check on it and then we'd be cut off. A call came in from someone that we thought would be the trucker, but then it was a number that didn't take return calls. No one ever called us. Razor Van Lines does not know the value of personal integrity. My bank can't help me get the money back, because the deposit was paid with an e-check instead of a credit card. PREDATORY CONTRACT PRACTICES, UNETHICAL MOVER, DO NOT USE THEM. I booked a move 3 weeks in advanced with them through Budget Van Lines an online broker who subcontracted the job to Razor Van Lines. Unfortunately I signed a binding contract with them over email following a brief phone conversation. During the conversation, the agent led me to believe the contract included professional packing and moving services with the order. I submitted a $1700 deposit to book one bedroom move with a total cost of $4700 which I thought included packing. Retrospectively, the interaction appeared professional enough, however the services offered in the conversation failed to match those described in the contract. I reviewed the agreement further and found that professional packing was not included. $4700 for a short distance move with self packing amounts to a gross overcharge. No with a great deal of concern, I researched the company and found that in fact they function as a brokerage subcontracting through Budget. This is not an actual moving company. I reviewed their BBB file and they maintain a C rating, due to their questionable business practices. Several online reviews describe multiple situations in which the agency partakes in questionable business practices including hostage, overcharging as in my case, hidden charges, and unethical business practices. I attempted to cancel my order within the prescribed time frame and the company stated the grace period had expired and they would not refund my deposit. They refused to hold any further discussions with me regarding this matter. I was not able to reach customer service or the cancellation department. This describes the company's overall strategy: 1. Offer moving services at cost 2. Up sell at contracting 3. Obtain a contract signature and deposit at all costs 4. Up-charge as much as possible during the process 5. So we hired these guys for our move to Arizona from here in Kansas city and I wish we had done a little more research. They showed up 2 days later then we contracted them for. They said it was mechanical and couldn't have been avoided. We own both houses so it wasn't that terrible we had more to pack anyways. After a very high pressure sale to sign while on the phone. I called an hour later to cancel. No one returned my call, I email no one responded. I eventually found a cancellation email in my contract and they refunded me 90% of the amount as there was a 10% cancellation fee. They did not incur any fees. This is a long post and somewhat of an investigative review about how Razor and many other brokers scam consumers. It exceeds the character limit so the balance of the review is in photos attached. It is an awareness piece, and I was tipped off to how this works by reading some one star reviews. I must preface this by saying I never used Razor Van Lines and feel fortunate I dodged that bullet, here's why; Something I've learned is that when you go to those websites where you submit your information to have moving companies bid on your move, that is where most scam moving BROKERS hang out. They are fed leads from these websites and that is usually how they darken your door. One such company I received a call from was Razor Van Lines. THE LIE: Right out of the gate, the individual I spoke to opened with a lie. John told me "we are one of the largest military movers in the country". THE FACT: This a is a completely false statement. Being a member of the DOD, I checked the list of approved movers and brokers and Razor Van lines IS NOT an approved carrier. The very first sentence out of Johns mouth to me was a complete lie! The very first red flag for me was that their quote and estimated cubic footage for the move was significantly lower than others (about half) as were their storage rates. I would later learn after some research this is most likely the beginning of a "hostage load" and while my possessions weren't held hostage, there are plenty of reviews on here that did have this happen. Quick summary, the BROKER (Razor) significantly under estimates your load making the rates sound like a steal. When the actual moving company shows up they say the estimate is completely wrong, they take your items and they don't give them back until you pay them. This is a common tow company scam too. The "deposit" that the broker will take up front is their "commission" and good luck getting that back. The balance due afterwards is between you and the moving company they brokered it out to and the broker (RAZOR) is free and clear with your deposit. I inquired about this fee and was told its an "essential business surcharge" as a result of the COVID crisis. John stated RAZOR DOES NOT charge this but the credit card company does. When I poked a little more, he put me on hold for 5 seconds, came back and said the surcharge will be waived if I wanted to use a credit card. Note that he said the CREDIT CARD COMPANY charges this, but he talked to his manager and waived it? Hmmm....sounds suspicious. THE FACT: After I got off the phone with him (and DID NOT put down a deposit) I called the credit card company and they said they'd never heard of an "Essential business surcharge". This has been proven a lie and it's very obvious that they try to dissuade you from using a credit card as I'm sure it's a headache for them to deal with disputes. I would NEVER give these people cash, because if you do, it's as good as gone. THE LIE: John stated that they have partnered with T-Mobile, Sprint, ATT and Verizon to offer further discounts. THE FACT: Being a T-Mobile customer, I looked into this further and have not been able to identify any such partnership. I believe they name drop large company names to make them sound more legit. I cannot say with 100% certainty that this partnership does not exist, but I will alert T-Mobile corporate communications of this claim so they can confirm or deny this. THE LIE: I asked John if the moving truck would be a third party. He said that while they do broker some moves, they also have their own fleet of trucks and he actually GUARANTEED that the truck moving my stuff would be one of theirs. THE FACT: This was the biggest lie of them all and here is proof why....in the quote they send you it states the following: "5. AS A PROPERLY LICENSED INTERSTATE MOVING COORDINATOR/SHIPPER AGENT/BROKER, RAZOR VAN LINES IS NOT A MOTOR CARRIER AND WILL NOT TRANSPORT AN INDIVIDUAL CUSTOMER/SHIPPER HOUSEHOLD GOODS, BUT WILL COORDINATE AND ARRANGE FOR THE TRANSPORTATION OF HOUSEHOLD GOODS BY ANY FMCSA AUTHORIZED MOTOR CARRIER" So while John GUARANTEED that their truck would be moving it, their contract specifically states they WILL NOT. Steer clear of this company- we were scammed by them. They're the Fyre Festival of moving companies. And not even a van line, just a very dishonest broker. Many of the other reviews here echo our experience. We got a quote from Ryan at Razor Van Lines in early June for a move from TX to MA. He seemed incredibly friendly and knowledgeable on the phone. My wife and I went from room to room in our house carefully listing and measuring all of our items to him over the phone as he put together an estimate. He quoted us a phenomenal deal saying they had a truck that they needed to get from San Antonio to Boston, and our move aligned perfectly. He gave my wife a generous veterans discount as well. As far as well could tell, Razor Van Lines seemed like a legitimate company, and we paid them a deposit. We contacted them again in early August for the "quality assurance check" and final estimate about a week before the move. After several days of waiting on hold for hours at a time and promises of getting a call back, we finally got a call back from Richard. He seemed friendly at first, but soon the red flags appeared. Again, I went room to room to check our items, and he kept mentioning things we "forgot" to mention in our initial estimate. He totally gaslighted me when I claimed that we did mention these. There is no way we forgot to list our washer/dryer, mattresses, dressers, bookshelves, and multiple chairs (i.e. the largest items in our house) in our initial list. As I continued to measure items, he would say things like "Wow, that is oversized" or "Oh that is definitely not standard" for items that were fairly normal sized. Ultimately, Razor deliberately left some of our largest items in the initial quote, and deliberately inflated the size and number of items for the final quote which was well over double the cost (only after another generous veterans discount). It was also clear after I started asking questions that there was no truck, or even a moving company scheduled yet. After that phone call it was clear they weren't being honest and we couldn't afford the final cost anyway. We quickly found a large number of BBB and FMCSA complaints online about no-shows or holding items hostage (most from the previous month), and we also found in the fine print of the contract that they make no guarantees of even showing up. I called to cancel the next day and they told me and I couldn't cancel over the phone, and had to email a specific email in the fine print in the contract. I did that with no response. A couple days I called again to confirm cancellation and I was berated for sending to the email they told me to send it to, because they "don't check that email often". I was promised they would get back to me to confirm and "start the cancellation process." But I never heard anything. I never heard back to be scheduled either. It is quite likely even if we wanted to proceed with the move they wouldn't have showed up. In the end, we weren't able to get our deposit back (over $2000) and we had to scramble with U-Hauls at the last minute to move. The folks at Razor Van Lines are scam artists. They put on an act over the phone to gain your confidence. It's particularly disturbing that they use the promise of very nice discounts to target veterans with this scam. read more

I had to create a yelp account because of how horrible of an experience I had with this company. This company doesn't have its own fleet of vehicles and employees that does the actual moving. They hire/contract other companies like Movesmart & Storage to do the physical move. Razor Van Lines does not care about giving you an accurate quote because all they care about is collecting the initial deposit. Once the movers arrive, they'll give you a new quote. They didn't arrive to pick my boxes on the day I scheduled and didn't communicate that to me! How do I plan a move when they don't arrive on the day I need it to be picked up and gives you a range of days like 0-7 business days when it'll arrive to destination is 0-500 miles away? Only give you a day ahead notice? I had to call everyday past 7 business days so I can figure out when my stuff is going to arrive? Even if they are late, it only costs them $5 for every BUSINESS days so they don't care about arriving on time. They already got your stuff. If you call, you'll be on phone for at least 30 minutes. Going back to Razor Vans, they also don't care after if it arrives late because they give themselves 21 business days before they have to do anything. Save your health. Save your money. Go somewhere else. They'll call you, sell you on a lower price, tell you the plan, get your deposit and then forget about you. They don't move things. They contract it out. Even though you'll confirm dates with them, and they'll put that in your "estimate," they don't guarantee pick-up or drop-off dates. The company is a brokerage company that doesn't present itself as when it takes your money. It under provides and customer service is horrendous. A Razor Van Lines rep named Kim Davis reached out to me on 6/10/20. She was friendly, helpful, gave me tons of discounts to help me move from MD to VT because she said she had sympathy for my current situation (going through a divorce and losing my job). She quoted me a price of $1951.68, and that day I paid a deposit of $960. Kim assured me that my living on the seventh floor next to the elevators would not be a problem on move day and that I wouldn't be charged (I later was). My move was scheduled for 07/12 or 13. I did know when my movers were going to arrive until less than 24 hours before my move, which it was guaranteed I would understand 24 hours in advance. The movers showed up on 7/13, and it was a whole different company. This is when I found out that Razor is just a brokerage firm, not a moving company. The new moving company showed up with their contract, which I signed, thinking it was standard protocol to do. This was my first move with a moving company. I have always Uhauled my belongings. The prices increased, and all the substantial discounts Razor Van provided me in my initial estimate did not transfer to the new contract. Once my items were on the truck, and I went to sign off, the price of my move had doubled. I was astounded as this was not an expense I was expecting to pay, nor at this current moment do I know how I'm going to afford to pay it. I immediately called Razor Van line and, after a 30 minute wait time, got on the phone with a representative, and she told me, it was my fault, I didn't read the contract carefully, that this is just how moving companies work. That she bought two iPhones from a cell phone service, and when she didn't read the contract, she was left to pay thousands of dollars -- lecturing me on her company's poor business practices and then she hung up the telephone on me. After reading tons of reviews on this company (hindsight is 20/20), the customer reviews are astounding and express my same concerns. That this company preys on those of us who are on a budget, rope us in, traps us in a non-refundable deposit, and then feed us to the wolves all in the name of profit. It's shameful, and I do know how the State of FL has not stepped in to ensure this is not continuing to happen. They don't say they're a brokerage firm during the telephone call - They should!
