Locals, skip the Everglades - you have the Everglades at home. Tourists - save money AND get a better tour, this is IT! At first we thought we might have gone the wrong direction, so we turned around and backtracked. That's when we finally spotted the sign for Jungle Dora's. Curious, we decided to stop and check it out. Inside was a large, modern gift shop, and we paid the $8 admission fee before heading outside to explore the sanctuary area behind the building. The space included a variety of animals such as lizards, turtles, alligators, and the true stars of the show: capybaras. We wandered around the sanctuary and even got to interact with some of the animals. We happened to arrive right at feeding time, so we were able to watch the staff feed several of them. The staff really made the experience special. They were attentive, eager to answer questions, and happy to share interesting facts about the animals. One staff member even allowed us to watch her feed baby alligators and then let us hold one, which was a really fun surprise. The sanctuary itself was great, but the staff made the visit even better. The gift shop sells a variety of shirts, stuffed animals, and small souvenirs, along with snacks and drinks that are perfect if you're continuing a road trip. This stop ended up being well worth the time and the modest $8 fee. They also offer animal encounter add-ons, so it's worth asking about those if you visit. For example, the capybara encounter costs $30 and includes feeding them. During our visit, the grounds were still quite wet from recent rain, so I'd recommend wearing flip-flops or waterproof shoes.

You can bike and hike your day away and stroll the many trails available!! Remember to stop in the CCC Museum and get a piece of history under your cap!! Seeing the animals and their left behinds makes for an exciting and unique part of your day!! Enjoy what their General Store has to offer as well as letting the little ones play on their awesome playground after enjoying an ice cream!! Don't let the park intimidate you, as it is quite large!! With many spots to park near the trailheads, you won't be physically pressed; keep an open eye on the map given to you at the Ranger Station to help guide your trip!! This historic 9000-acre park opened in 1931. It's considered an old growth forest and full of bald…read morecypress trees. There are a wide variety of endemic wildlife and plants. The main feature of this wonderful park was the boardwalk that goes through the swamp forest. Some really old trees that are possibly 1000 years old, is located in this park. There are nine trails, a campground, a playground, and a picnic area. There's a 3-mile loop trail for biking and driving. Also, a museum and concession built by the Civilian Conservation Corps; they constructed many buildings, bridges, and blazed trails in Florida State Parks. We were staying nearby and decided to explore this park. I enjoyed the historic land and old trees. The boardwalk was pleasant to stroll on; I saw quite a few memorial plaques. Generations of people walking on the same paths decades ago. It's a peaceful place and I'm glad they didn't turn it into farmland back in the 1930s.

Check in there then they'll give you a map which leads you to the tactical obstacle course. I can't recommend more highly - I'm a newish shooter, about three years seriously (longtime before but not competitive) but I've only shot indoors stationary or out in the Califorinia desert bringing your own targets. The set up is similar to a USPSA, IDPA or a Steel Challenge type course. Nothing is on a timer unless you want to practice speed and that's fine too. Soooooo exciting!!!! Moving behind cover hitting steel, paper and "no hit" targets - or "hostages". Family friendly, this is not an intimidating experience at all. The best part for me was the amount of personal attention from the Range Officers, George and Sydney. They both gave me so many pointers I've never known about despite hours of YouTube watching! They teach safety procedures for a range like the this - totally more secure than a typical range, you'll see. Safety zone, Ammo loading area, etc. You will need a holster which can be concealed, or if you have a belt rig set up that works OWB, check out Blue Alpha Belts, a veteran owned company and made in the USA. If you don't have a holster check out Safariland online for basic Kydex set ups that are very affordable. If you've never drawn and fired from a holster holy moly it's a real trip!!!
