They always go above the call of duty, and they always remember me whenever I stop in. The only problem I have with this location is it's in the worst section of an already bad parking lot. If you're not feeling up to tricky parking maneuvers, just park in the middle section. The actual parking section for TD is for master parkers only, which I most certainly am not. A bank is a bank is a bank in my books. Banks are filled with money that I don't have, the money…read morethat I do have usually has to stay there, and everything that goes through the heads of people who work in banks actively makes mine hurt until I splurge on a $300 belt to make the pain go away. All in all, banks and I have no reason to be friends. This credit union is pretty much just like any other bank except in a nicer building. It looks all fancy with its grandiose columns which makes me pretty happy. If I have to go to a bank, it might as well be wrapped in Roman pomp. It also has a strange rule that you can slam your car into park basically on its front step if you're just running in to use the ATM. Along with the columns, this ends up making me feel all kinds if VIP...like la Lohan drunk-driving her coup right into the line-up at some LA hotspot. The staff on the inside includes multiple young bucks (nice to know that there are spots hiring new grads!) and plenty of folks who can cope with 'old person requests' much better than I ever could. I'd rather take 37 punches to the face than have to go fetch a lady crisper $20 bills for her grandson's birthday card, but I suppose that's why they work there and I don't. So in summary, Ben hates banks, this one is fancy enough to fool me into thinking I'm not just handing my money over to bills, and old people drive me crazy but are in good hands here.

The place was under renovations at the time so it was a bit unorganized and not particularly pleasant to sit around in, but I was seen quickly, different staff came by to make sure I'd been looked after, which honestly got a bit obnoxious, but it was nice to know someone knew there was another living body in the room. Location isn't the greatest for people that are passing through downtown, but at the same time, neither are the other bank locations off Alderney.

Pretty inexcusable. There are not a plethora of options around Halifax for a CU member, but they are there if you know where to look. Since the Spring Garden location is only a 10 minute walk from my office, it makes it a logical choice to visit for any in person stuff I have to do. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my service there. Customer Service: 5/5 I normally have the same clerk when I go in, and it's made it so that she remembers my name and account whenever I go in, making it a quick and easy process to get in, do what I need, and then keep on with the rest of my day. Even when I don't get my normal clerk, the others are friendly, helpful, and happy. One of the worst things I've seen in a Halifax bank is a cranky clerk, it just ruins my day. I'm happy to say I've yet to run into one at CU. It doesn't even matter that I'm a member of another CU, because they've got their processes in order to always accommodate what I need. If they can't do something, they're on the phone in seconds with my CU back home to get it worked out. Atmosphere: 5/5 The decor is calming, not too much of any one colour (sorry TD, but too much green makes me feel like Kermit came in and exploded upon entry...), and the waiting chairs are a large comfy blue kind. Lines are never very long, I'd say the longest I've ever waited was about 10 minutes. Compared with other banks in the area, I've seen 30 mins to an hour on paydays, so this isn't bad. Hours: 3/5 (the only thing stopping me from giving it 5 stars) The hours are just as you'd expect from most banks (10-4 or 10-5, weekdays). Though, it would be helpful to have longer hours on typical paydays to accommodate for those who can only make it in after work (if you close at 5, and work is over at 5, it can be hard to make it work...) Some CU's in other parts of the city even have a few Saturday hours, which can be helpful for those who work during their normal weekday hours, or even students that have more time for banking on a weekend. Hard to fault them for this, since it really is the norm for Halifax banks, but it would make it more convenient just the same.

The fees on the loan and the subsequent debit account I was required to have to pay the loan off were astronomical. My friend was in the same boat - she got a personal consolidation loan with them and the amount she's paid in fees, she could have had her debt paid off by now. I am all for supporting local but small banks just can't offer low rates the way big banks can.
