Love this place and we love wood. Every door in our home is from them and we love their brand branded saying so, in the inside hinge. The hand scraping and notching of knot holes is gorgeous. Some of our closets and pocket doors are a shame to keep open which hides the personality! They stand behind their warranty and evaluated every piece in our home after a tough winter to see if all was still plumb and air tight. We were referred by our contractor to stop by RBM Lumber for some barnwood. Our big house was going to be remodeled and, as the designer, I wanted to get the best looking wood for several places in our home. We were so excited to stop over in Columbia Falls to see if they had what we were hoping for. It was amazing! RBM had so much of all kinds of lumber and lots of barnwood! One long wall was being taken out and a large beam was needed to open up the living room and kitchen. Vince, showed us so many pieces that could be used. He was very patient and knowledgeable as we walked around. Vince was able to find exactly what we needed which was a lot. We were able to pick up several lengths of beautiful wood for our home. We came back several times AND later Vince helped us arrange to have the most beautiful "live edge" table made! It is surprising that this place has not previously been reviewed ... but then, come to think of it, most folks who trade here may not be so inclined. I am a builder with decades of background experience in buying lumber. Let me simply say that RBM is very unique in that they are big enough to have a lot of inventory but small enough (family owned) to be very accommodating. Here's an example: I needed to replace large, rotted glu-lam supporting an outside deck. Now I am not a fan of glu-lam use on the exterior so I wanted a big, dimensional lumber beam. I gave them the exact dimensions I needed to butt up with the remaining glu-lam sections (down to the eighth inch) and they had a beam for me within about three days. That is just one example. I've been buying at RBM for years. I don't buy framing lumber there because that is not their specialty but if you want flooring, picture frame stock, custom doors, molding stock and rough timbers or siding, this is your place. Surprisingly, their prices are usually lower than you would expect. More than once they have been able to supply something that I could not find anyplace else. These are folks who really appreciate wood and customer service is their game. Many of their employees have been there for years and years. If they don't have what you need and can wait a few days they can probably make it for you. They will happily talk to you on the phone to check their inventory. We are blessed to have this local, retail, saw-mill treasure for us here in NW Montana. No credit cards so bring cash or checkbook. read more

I am a carpenter/builder with years in the trades. I once lived in the logging communities of northern CA and thought I had good choices in materials but RBM is unlike any mill I have ever been around. They have completely spoiled me by three things: 1. Their willingness to accommodate and share and help. In addition to excellent advice, they'll mill virtually anything for you if they possibly can. 2. Their selection of slabs, millwork, siding, flooring, picture frame material and other stock is nearly endless. 3. They are hometown folk who really LOVE wood like I do.
