The salesperson said the owner made the decision to not carry books about Israel. I left without buying any books. It wasn't till I came to Yelp that I learned about the political bent of the shop. I felt deceived as there was no indication that I saw in the store about a left wing, Socialist, anti-Israel bent to the business. The owner can cater to whatever crowd they want, but be open about it so that potential customers can make informed decisions.

It does have many stacks of books, and vertical stacks are not a convenience in a bookstore. There's also a selection of books for display at the front of the store with a deal going on: usually "$5 each, 3 for $10". The only point of concern is security, as it seems fairly susceptible to theft.

I had to go here for several books while I was in University and the store had gone through some changes. Not only did it turn out to be a good pace to buy books, but you could visit the cafe to fuel up and get ready for studying. A friend of mine also worked at Agora through school and found it a really good place to work. They try to employ mostly students. The location is pretty good, though it would be more convenient closer to the school.

Black squirrel is a used (with some new) and very carefully curated bookstore with two levels of exploring to do. At the front of the shop is an espresso bar that offers lots of tasty treats and alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. I got a oat milk cappuccino and a small chocolate mint cookie. They obviously have books, of all genres, but they have so much more than books. They have board games/card games and they have toys too, including Celestial Buddies, which are plushies of planets, moons and all things, well... celestial, lol. I especially liked the Saturn plushie. They have "Every Child Matters" stuffed bears as well. They have really cool bookmarks (I especially liked the Spaghetti and Meatballs bookmark). They have earrings that are book covers! Perfect for the bibliophile in your life who also loves jewelry (and has their ears pierced). The bookstore is very open and not cluttered at all. They had some shelves still empty when I went the first week of November 2023, so I think they will be getting more merchandise. Prices are comparable to other regular bookstores. No bargain basement prices, but no huge markup for being in trendy Westboro, lol. Staff are friendly and pleasant. They leave you alone to browse, which I like, but seemed helpful with other customers who needed help (I did not need help, so did not interact too much with staff). Great place to pick up gifts. In fact, their prices are extremely competitive with what you'd pay at larger/chain retailers. The staff are friendly and helpful, and they're more than willing to order a book for you if they don't happen to have it in stock.
