Like others mentioned, this bookstore makes you feel like you just stepped into a set in a movie! So many magical things to find in here! It's not crazy big, but it's big on special little books and gifts and the creamiest ice cream I might have ever had. From the cute seats, to the events they hold, even in spanish (In the middle of Woodstock of all places) I was completely mesmerized for the few hours that I got lost in there. One of my favorite places in Woodstock Square. They make the best lattes, and the ice cream and gelatos are fantastic. But the heart of the business is the bookstore and it's a treasure trove of books, stationery and little mementos. I love this place! Customer service is fabulous! There is nowhere in the world that SMELLS as rich and delicious as this independent bookstore! Coffee, Ice Cream and BOOKS? In one store? Pinch me. I love taking my kids here, we grab a dip after school, eat it outside (or in the car) while discussing school and then pop back in to pick out a new book. I absolutely adore this shop and do not mind spending a little to support a local business and to experience the incredible world they've built inside the building. Taking in Woodstock's downtown and perusing Read Between the Lynes made me feel like I was in a movie or sitcom set in the quaintest of downtowns. Or rather -- since this is a bookstore, after all -- like I was in "To Kill A Mockingbird" ... but modern day ... in the Midwest. The store is spotless and impeccably designed with large, modern lights hanging from the ceiling, set against dark wood bookcases. And during my 20 minutes or so in the store, a handful of people came in -- all who sounded to be neighbors of the nice shop ladies. Even the mailman came in to hand the ladies behind the counter their mail, with all three of them seeming to be friendly, like they go way back. I expected them to start talking about how Timmy was joining Little League or how Mrs. Jones was having a cookout on Saturday. You can tell that this is a close-knit town. But on to the books, the real reason for this review. It was so nice to get to peruse and discover books. I found several from some of my favorite authors that I did not know had been recently published. You just don't get that looking at Amazon. It was so refreshing to be drawn in by a title and cover and then pick it up to read its jacket. And despite Read Between the Lynes being on the smaller side, they seemed to have a diverse selection. I found best sellers as well as classics, YA and regional reads. The staff selections also looked to cover different tastes. Again, it was like my eyes were hopping from book to book, mentally adding new books to my to-read list. It was hard to decide on just one book. In the end, I bought "Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania," by Erik Larson, who wrote one of my favorite books, "The Devil in the White City." I hate to say that it's been too long since I read from a book being held in my hands, rather than my Kindle or iPad. I'm looking forward to it, and had I not ventured into this shop, I probably would not have come across this book. read more

Books and ice cream, how could you go wrong? This shop is just the dang cutest. It's impeccably kept and curated. There's a diverse selection that isn't too overwhelming, and had several of my favorite authors on display. I even discovered the final book in a trilogy I had been reading over the years had been published, something I missed in the endless stream of books I end up adding to my reading list. The shop is a good size and they've left plenty of room to navigate so you can step around folks who have stopped to read a dust jacket or leaf through the pages. They've also got some fun sweets and goodies like jam for purchase in addition to the coffee and ice cream counter. I wish I had a shop like this in my hood - it'd be the ideal hangout for my book-reading, ice-cream-licking self. read more

I love independent bookstores and this one is a delight. It's small and has a carefully curated choice of titles available. There were new novels to peruse as well as old favorites there to let me know this was a good taste collection. There are a few places to sit, friendly but not hovering staff and a very nice vibe to this sleek space. I bought two books but could have bought more. Woodstock is lucky to still have an independent bookstore on the square. I hope people support it and buy books. I don't even care if you read them, although that would be better. I have been going to this store the entirety of my life and never once have I been disappointed by this friendly family atmosphere. The selection of merchandise ranges from books to milkshakes! But beware, their books are "allergic to ice cream." Signs boasting this slogan are posted around the store as a friendly reminder to keep the books away from any possible sticky messes. I love bookshops. Always have. I'm also pretty picky about them as well. I like well lit and clean inviting stores. Read Between the Lynes is one of the most welcoming bookshops I've visited. Maybe I'm a little biased because it is now my go to bookshop since we moved to Woodstock four years ago. I read some pretty esoteric stuff and they can always find a copy to order. In store they carry a great selection of best sellers and popular fiction as well as nonfiction. Their children's section is adorable. But the best part of this store? The staff. The staff is always friendly and knowledgable. Oh and if you're lucky one of owner's sweet St. Bernard's will be snoozing behind the desk. Seriously, you should check this place out. :D read more

My favorite bookstore in the Northwest suburbs! Great selection of all types of books - including a marvelous kids section. Owner Arlene Lynes and her staff (especially Leslie) are well read, well informed, helpful but not intrusive. Focus is on BOOKS not tzchotkys like B&N. However they DO have a nice selection of cookies from Jaci's Cookies another local Woodstick Square biz. Special orders or online orders come in really fast. And the ambience is just delightful - cozy reading chairs, nice old building a few doors down from the historic Woodstock Opera House. Oh and did I mention they are next door to Starbucks? Great books, comfy chairs, bring a cuppa, get a cookie with your book - stay awhile! They also have some great book clubs. It's a GREAT bookstore! read more

A great local store with a carefully curated selection. Their location on the square next to Starbucks is perfect. Every time I have stopped in, I've found something I haven't seen at Big Chain Bookstores. Their children's books in the back are especially good. They sometimes sell books off a cart at lower prices. A selection of sweet treats is for sale , including a WIDE selection from a gluten-free bakery. On my last visit, I got a "Shop Small" tote. Be sure to patronize and purchase, so your grandkids will know the joy of browsing a bookstore. It's like a library, but you can KEEP the book FOREVER!!!! read more

The selection isn't large by any means, and we still found some things to bring home with us, but it's not enough to bring us back, especially since the girl at the check out was rude.
