The Real Alcázar was one of the most beautiful places we visited in Seville. The mix of Moorish-style details, quiet courtyards, tiles, arches, and gardens makes it feel like you're walking through different parts of history in one place. Incredible let down. Having it over hyped as some magical enchanting grounds really killed it for us. We came here this afternoon (May 27, 2026 at 1:30pm) and was just not impressed. For 15.5€ each we saw an underwatered garden with some construction going on and none of the water fountains were running. The only enchanting thing we saw were peacocks and a family of ducks taking a water bath and stagnant water. The quintessential patio de las doncellas was nice but doesnt make up for the entry fee. If you've booked tickets or are a history buff sure it might be okay but don't waste your time if you need to line up at 730am for day of use tickets. There are better places to see in Seville that are free. read more

This is a really cool experience. The tile work is incredible throughout and I think I took pictures of every single ceiling along the way. Gorgeous complex! Doors open at 9:30a so if you have entry to the Cuarto Real, you'll need to line up past security in the right side of the courtyard on the second floor. This quarter is the most modern portion. All bags including phones need to be stored in lockers. A handheld audioguide will be given snd your group will be ushered by the guards. If your booking is later, start with the different palaces. There is the Gothic palace (two large rooms) to the left of the main courtyard, the Yeso Palace to the right, and Pedro's Palace in front, which consists of the mujedar style and the most iconic shots of the complex. The gardens behind the complex are quite vast, with fountains, pools, balconies, trimmed hedges, a hedge maze, sculptures, and peacocks roaming freely. The audioguide can be found online, though it worked unreliably depending on my connection. Great place to visit! I think I preferred the Alhambra complex a but more but this was still stunning. read more

Our first tour in Seville was for the Real Alcazar, the historic royal palace of Seville, and supposedly one of the official royal residences of the Spanish royal family. I'm glad we booked the first tour of the day, because the line already wrapped around the corner and only got more busy later throughout the day. We did this tour unguided, instead choosing to follow the audio guide on our phone. My jaw continued to hit the floor with each room we entered, thinking that people created something so beautiful in the 10th century - all of the tile work was especially stunning. A few fun facts about the Alcazar: It's the oldest Royal Palace that's considered active in all of Europe Game of Thrones filmed several scenes on site (think the kingdom of Dorne) The palace includes both Christian and Islamic architecture (the blending of the two is referred to as "Mudéjar") Its history goes back over 1,000 years, when it was originally built atop a Roman fortress (there are also historical elements of the Roman, Visigothic, Moorish, Gothic, and Renaissance periods) Some of the rooms within the palace hold historical significance; for example, the Hall of Ambassadors was where Christopher Columbus petitioned King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella to sail for the New World After walking through the interior of the palace, we spent some time in the quieter sections of the gardens walking around, and even saw a gathering of peacocks, or an ostentation - many babies and adults all gathered together! Beautiful attraction, not quite ADA/stroller compliant but they have done their best, with the addition of ramps along the stairs. Getting into the lower gardens and the lower(underground) palace may be hard. Be prepared to leave stroller. Parts of the Upper Palace are for ticketed guests. This was on the top of our list to see when in Sevilla. Bought tickets on-line at least a month or two before we were going to visit (even in this lower season) otherwise you will waste an hour or more waiting to buy tickets. Also get the first entry time of 9:30am and get there at least 15 minutes early. It is a bit chaotic with big crowds even at this time. Bring an ID that matches the ticket info. The audioguide is good (6 euros) but the signage throughout the palace is inconsistent so at times you are not sure what audio clip you should be listening to. There is no real path so despite the numbers on the audio guide we just wandered. The throne room is super impressive as are the gardens. The detailing throughout is incredible. We spent over 2 hours exploring. Overall I think this was better than the Alhambra in Granada. read more

The castle is beautiful and fantastical in every which way; truly a once in a lifetime experience, and I have never seen anything like it. However, the service is as shit as the organization of their website. For starters, the website was confusing to navigate and kept referring back to Spanish each time our screen refreshed and it was difficult to even download the tickets. Two, the service was uncannily rude and unprofessional. We arrived from Madrid to Seville just before noon as our appointment was at 2PM, we waited in line to be admitted to the castle at a little after 2PM; as per our ticket required. When we arrived to the royal chambers at around 2:30, the gentleman working did not allow us to enter as our tickets required us to be 15 minutes before 2PM. This was impossible, as already stated, we weren't allowed in until 2PM. He then had us wait 45 minutes until his coworker arrived to see if the tours after us would have us, they did not, and she told us we were too late. Her tone was blunt, rude and unprofessional as she pointed out that we should have taken to the website. Again, as previously stated; the website was confusing and unorganized, as this experience was. When it came to asking to speaking to the manager to make a claim, we asked for her name; to which she then refused. Then came to making the claim, to which the management refused to not only allow us to make but were unhelpful and unwilling to help us with at all. They told us we should have been there at 1:45 to make it to the royal chambers, which again, we were unable to do as we were not allowed into the building until 2PM. The service at this fine establishment was unacceptable and should be seen for. Absolutely absurd. read more

Fantastic site and a must see. I did a tour by myself, did not find it necessary to hire a guide but YMMV. Bought my ticket a week or two in advance and went at 10AM. Best to get there in the morning with lesser crowds and before it gets too hot. I spent more than 2 hours checking out the inside as well as the fabulous grounds. Personal tip: bypass all the tour groups and make a beeline straight for the "Game of Thrones" room to get the best possible photographs with fewer people (tour groups are viewing other areas prior). Afterwards, head to the beautiful grounds where you will see peacocks--and might get lucky, as I did, with one spreading its wings. Then go back and check out the indoor rooms you initially bypassed. A must visit in Seville. Upon exiting you will also have an excellent vantage point to take pics of The Cathedral. read more

This is a very spacious palace. If you find yourself in Sevilla, make a reservation online . It's very difficult to go last minute. You must make a reservation and you must print out your ticket.. We were there and visited for roughly 2 1/2 hours is a lot of walking. There's so much to see in the beautiful grounds are gorgeous. Give yourself time to really look around and experience all the halls and the magnificent grounds. They do have a café on property as well as a beautiful gift shop . ( there you can find find jewelry, and also books on the actual palace itself and the history.) There is no time limit so you can stay as long as you like your beautiful fountains, daughter throughout the property 20 of sitting areas to just sit and reflect or perhaps decompress from a long day in Seville, which can become pretty chaotic as it is very popular... This in my Pinyan is a must see if you're going to be in Seville, so we highly recommend you make a reservation and enjoy every moment read more

Overall 4.5. A must-see when visiting Seville. We two visited in Sep 2023, spending about 2 hours. We did an advance purchase of "Visita Real Alcázar + Cuarto Real Alto" (English: "Visit to the Real Alcázar + Royal Bedroom") entry tickets. The tour of the royal rooms was worth the extra cost. Regarding the royal rooms tour: At 11:20am we arrived 5 min late to the location within the Alcazar for our 11:30am royal rooms guided tour (as one is supposed to arrive 15 min early); fortunately we were allowed to join the 12:30 tour. We witnessed a few others also arriving late. LESSON LEARNED: be at the tour starting point - not the Alcazar ticket entry gate - at least 15 min before your reserved time, which suggests being at the Alcazar ticket entry gate about 30 min before the reserved time. NOTE: If you have ANY handbags etc, bring a 1€ coin for the upper floor tour storage lockers. read more

I know things book in advance here so I highly recommend doing it ahead of time .Allot atleast 4-5 hours for this place if you want to a leisurely tour but I do see that it can be rushed in 2-3 hours if all you care for is pictures (cue all GOT fans ).works either ways depending on your preference .The gardens are gorgeous and may I add a little confusing .lol the map wasn't much help with some of the areas closed for restoration and diversions . Don't bother waiting in line, get your tickets online and go straight to the entrance. You came to Seville for the big 5: Real Alcazar, Plaza de Espana, Cathedral of Seville, Santa Cruz barrio, and the Los Seats (Mushrooms). This is the place with iconic facade square area- see photos, where Isabella of Portugal (grand daughter of Isabella and Ferdinand) and Charles resided, Alfonso X of Castile, and other kings lived. There is a guided tour for those who love to learn about history. There are lots of exhibits of the tile art that is unique to Spain and Andalusian culture. I think reading the history in these exhibits is enough- and there's even displays of where Christopher Columbus marketed his voyage to North America. The gardens are also beautiful- Spanish gardens are not as varied in flora/fauna or as manicured as gardens. Usually very verdant and let the oranges on the trees add the splash of color in the gardens. Tip: This is a place that one should buy tickets online ahead of time to avoid the long lines to get in. Audio guides are available, but to me, I don't think it's necessary to enjoy your time here b/c the aesthetics of this palace is just wonderful. It's impossible to book tickets online. You can try different browsers, different devices, and different credit cards and you get the same error message again and again. I contacted my bank and Real Alcarzar never even sent an authorization charge. It's like they want you to waste three hours standing in line for tickets (no thanks). It might be the climate itself, the day of our visit was scorching hot. It is definitely a must visit. We visited during Covid summer of 2021, so the place was not busy, I don't think I would enjoy it overrun with tourists. read more

Moorish architecture. Not as impressive as the ones you'd see in Malaga or, Istanbul. But that's not why I was here. It's very hard to get in, you have to get reserved seat and best to come with a tour guide which gets you before others does. There is a wait for those who are without reservations and generally it's an hour plus long wait. You can't pay me enough to do that. Turns out, the best thing about this place is stories behind it. Maria Luisa was the mistress. She died young and the king mourned her loss and felt that she was the true love, therefore postmortem, she was officially deemed the queen. Way to go. Here is a moral story - the only way you can go from being a mistress to a wife is after death. Just another life lesson. Best part is - this is where they filmed Dorne from Game of the Thrones. Yep, every bit of it. I lingered by the tower, and the garden and I took more photos than I ever did. It's gorgeous. The view is specular. The best part of the scenes - poison, the brutal death, all took place here. It's just as good as it gets, or until I get to Dubrovnik, Croatia, next summer. read more

We hired a private guide through Tours by Local to take us through this spectacular site as in our experience you get so much more from a visit with a live guide than just wandering aimlessly with a guidebook or audio wand. One of the benefits is we were literally among the first people through the door (most attractions in Spain have separate or no lines for private guides) and since she was such an expert she quickly hustled us into the secret court yard of the 2nd palace (there are three total) where we could enjoy the tranquility of the reflection pool alone with only the birds. We got some great pictures that wouldn't have been possible 5 minutes later in the day. She also knew where and when to take the iconic photos for preserving our memories of the trip. In a little over an hour we had gotten many great photos and absorbed he history of the palace from many angles. Of course it certainly would be possible to spend an entire day marveling at the architectural details but without any context it wouldn't have been such a magical experience. Queue all of the Game of Throne fan cheers!? Did I solely visit this absolutely stunning palace and accompanying grounds based off of the TV series...short answer no. While many have mentioned this attraction has skyrocketed the past few years in terms of popularity, it has not lost its charms based on what a local told me. It is not the cheapest option, coming in over 15 euros if I remember, it is well worth it! The biggest tip I have for anyone thinking about visiting, is buy your tickets online for a specific time slot or be prepared to stand in a very long line. I purchased my tickets the night before and basically just walked in with no wait, which I almost felt guilty when cutting everyone standing in the very long line. Once inside, you can honestly take whatever path you prefer as the palace is quite large, but the grounds are absolutely massive! I spent well over a hour perusing around the interior of the palace, basically dragging my jaw the whole time in complete awe. I will admit that I am a Game of Thrones fan and was curious to see if I could find the balcony from one of the scenes, but apparently it is a limited ticket stock, so keep that in mind if you want to see where they filmed a few parts. As for the grounds, talk about immaculate! I could of spent all day in this very peaceful setting filled with plenty of flora and fauna, but the heat had other ideas for me. Seriously though, take your time here as this is one of the top sites to see and you will be upset with yourself if you rush through it regardless of the crowds. read more

This palace is GORGEOUS! And it was filmed in GoT! If you find yourself in Seville, this place is a must go. Purchasing tickets was easy, you go through a security scan and then you can purchase your ticket. Once purchased, you can go into the palace. The palace is huge and absolutely stunning. The amount of detail that went into this palace is insane. All the delicate carvings, the tapestries, the vast gardens... it's slightly overwhelming. I'm in awe of how people back then were able to create something so beautiful without modern tools. I spent about 2 hours inside the palace looking around and I don't think I was close to finishing seeing everything. The gardens are full of orange trees (I heard these oranges are sour so theres no fun in eating them) which look really pretty. I wish I got to spend more time here. We were running out of time so we had to leave but this palace is definitely worth a visit! read more

The Alcazar is a royal palace and UNESCO World Heritage Site, built in a blend of Moorish/Arab and Gothic styles. Each new room that you walk into and each garden has something unique and different about it. The attention to detail is just stunning. You can admire everything from a far and then when you get up close you can see each individual tile or each carving that went into making a whole wall or door. Admission is 12.50 €, which you should plan ahead and buy online so that you do not have to worry about the Alcazar being at full capacity. We came right when the Alcazar opened and stood in line waiting to get in so that we were done with everything while it was still morning. I highly recommend doing it that way so that you can also enjoy the gardens without the full heat of the afternoon. Upon entering through the Lion's Gate, you can immediately see greenery and beautiful architecture. The most recognizable part of the Alcazar is the Patio de las Doncellas/Courtyard of the Maidens. It has a beautiful center pool, small trees and decorated archways. Other notable parts of the Alcazar include Baths of Lady María de Padilla and The Salon de Embajadores. You may recognize some of the scenery here if you are a Game of Thrones fan, as the scenes for Dorne were filmed here. Going back further, the movie Lawrence of Arabia was partly filmed here as well. I think we spent around 2-2.5 hours here. We really took our time walking around and admiring everything. The glimpse into the royal life was certainly a treat. The Real Alcazar de Sevilla was one of the highlights of my trip to Spain. The beauty of the architecture, the serene quality of the gardens and the history of this place all amazed me. read more

Tickets are 11.50 euro per person (Sept 2018). The ticket agents automatically run credit cards in USD so we were charged more than we would have paid if it was run in euro. Most places ask before they run it. Not here! Try to let them know before you give them your CC! We saw the Alhambra so the Alcazar paled in comparison. It was much smaller, less well kept, and an INSANE wait. I have no idea why people wait all day in the hot sun to see this place. It's okay but they pump way too many people through and the wait is miserable. We were in Seville for a few days so we decided to come late in the day and missed the wait and wandered around until after close. I would recommend seeing it but plan your visit and try to get there in the AM or late (at least 1.5-2hrs before close). read more

Of the Alcazars I've visited in Spain, the Seville Alcazar is the best I've been to so far... Alcazar in Spanish comes from the Arabic word al-qasr for fortress. While the Alcazar in Seville is pretty big and fortress/castle-like, it's absolutely stunning and beautiful inside and out. The architecture is primarily Moorish, similar to what you'd find at the Alhambra, with elements of Renaissance and Baroque as well. The Seville Alcazar is really big, encompassing multiple buildings, rooms, and gardens... I think it was purposely built to be big and confusing, so that royal courtiers would be amazed at the art & architecture with every turn they made...or so that invaders would get lost when trying to find the ruler tucked away in some random room. My friend and I got lost...we thought that it would be really easy to navigate the grounds, but unbeknownst to us, we walked around in circles a couple of times! The price for admission for adults is 8 euros, which is well worth it if you spend at least 3-4 hours here. They have student fares, which require a student ID with your age on it... they ticket sellers are very strict about checking age. No trip to Seville is complete without visiting the Alcazar (and the Cathedral down the street--see my other review!). The Alcazar is a perfect example of the juxtaposition of different cultures and conglomeration of various architectural styles into one big, beautiful masterpiece.
