The real ale shop is rather hidden away in the countryside outside Wells-next-the sea but follow the signs from the main Wells to Fakenham road to track it down - you'll be glad you did. All real ale fans should beat a track to this place if you're in the area. The tiny shop is on part of farm that grows barley for the local brewing industries and it sells an impressive range of bottled real ales from a host of Norfolk minco breweries. The owner is very knowledgeable about the beers and tasting notes explain what you're going to get from each bottle. You grab a wicker basket on entry and just go round the shelves grabbing bottles that take your fancy en route. Prices are reasonable - probably a trifle more than you'd pay in a supermarket but well worth a few pennies extra. read more

Sorry to say we had a very different experience than the previous reviewer. We were not lucky enough to meet the owner the day we visited. Instead we were met with a grumpy shop worker. I assume he wasn't the owner as he referred to the gov'ner a few times. We were made to feel unwelcome almost as if we had just barged through the front door of his house uninvited. I did buy a few beers as we had made the effort to drive there, but later wished I had not given this shop my custom. We wouldn't return. The icy reception aside, it's actually quite a cute little shop clearly aimed at tourists, although priced accordingly. read more
