Well, that turned out to be the case that it was worth checking out, particularly with them having a nice range of beers, and also some rather friendly staff. While it wasn't one of the best places I have been to, it was still quite a nice place to visit.

Too late for lunch and too early for dinner, but they were cool and take my order. As mine was the first order for the evening the wait time was nothing. The burger was mighty fine. Soft bun with enough saltiness from the pickle and cheese to compliment a very greazy double patty. The onion rings added a nice crunch. Reminds me of the classic American burger. The shoe strong fries was perfectly fried and salted. A decent portion too. So much food meant that I couldn't order any dessert. Much sadness. Happy to return here again one day.

What a great place for a function, particularly when there is no minimum spend. The Bored Monkey operates for breakfast on a Sunday, lunch from Friday-Sunday and dinner Tuesday-Sunday. They are soon to open a cocktail lounge upstairs with tapas to suit the early cocktail hour crowd. The decor is casual and the restaurant feels comfortable, with a varied crowd of differing ages. Staff are warm and friendly and service was extremely efficient. We would describe the menu as very approachable. All diners can find something that meets their taste. Whether it be a burger, steak, nachos, salad, pasta and meats, or something from their amazing range of seafood options, you will leave satisfied. There's some dishes that would suit those with dietary requirements and also a kids menu. Kids under 12 eat free! There's a lunch menu for $29.95 or $25 for seniors. This is very good value for two courses (main and dessert) with a glass of beer, house wine or soft drink. We really enjoyed the dinner menu, and feel that the food here is high quality. It would be categorised as modern Australian, featuring selections from the sea, grill and garden. On our visit, we had a few from each category. For entrees, we began with a few Sydney Rock oysters, sampling a few flavours, the natural Kilpatrick, lime, soy, ginger and eschallots. The oysters were so nice and creamy and it is hard to pick a favourite.   These were followed by the sake scallops, which were cooked perfectly - three Victoria Bay scallops sitting in their shell, cooked with garlic, negara sauce, soy sauce and shallots, the were full of flavour and we just wanted to keep going back in for that sauce.   We also shared the Skull island prawns, grilled and served in their butterflied half shell, they were flavoured with a mild kick of chilli oil, basil, flakes of salt and freshed herbs.   Other entrée / tapas style dishes for you to select from include arancini, tequila poppers, pork belly, zucchini flowers and haloumi, to name a few. For our mains, we decided to share the surf & turf which we chose Moreton bay bug as the seafood addition. A lovely piece of seafood beautifully cooked and flavoured, accompanying the A variety of wine from the right regions and good range of beer on offer including craft beer on tap, with one of our favorites stone and wood pacific ale. There are number of inviting cocktails with many classics listed and a couple of interesting twists including the lychee martini and the salted caramel espresso martini. We had a refreshing mojito to accompany our seafood selection.

I would give it between a 3 and a 4. The menu is huge and has a lot of interesting items. They range from the easily recognizable (Pad Thai) to some really different dishes, although they're all distinctly Thai in nature. I ordered the Peking duck stir fry which was served with shallots and bok choy over noodles. We also got an order of yellow curry with chicken and vegetables and an order of vegetable pad Thai. The food came out extremely fast, which was born awesome and slightly disturbing. The portions were large. I really enjoyed the duck. It was very flavorful and multi dimensional; the bok choy was crunchy and added to the dish. The yellow curry was spot on, and the pad Thai was pretty standard. While nothing really blew me away, the food was good in general. Everything was solid, and everything that came out of the kitchen smelled delicious. Perfect for a fast, hearty dinner.

We settled on Mortar & Pestle, which pans themselves as traditional Thai food, after walking around the area. It was busy on a Friday evening (around 7:30pm) but we were able to get a table inside without waiting. Service was brutal even though they are well staffed. We had troubles with ordering, getting wrong dishes, etc. We weren't impressed. The dinner menu is massive with appetizers, soup, salad, grill, noodle/fried rice, from the wok, curry, whole fish, seafood, vegetable and desserts. The lunch menu was much more succulent with only two pages of options. - 2x jasmine rice ($3.00 AUD) - you're going to want to get at least two bowls to sop all your curry sauce up. - Gang ga ree gai ($16.90 AUD) - beef, sweet potato, pumpkin and onion in a mild yellow coconut curry sauce. This yellow curry was really well executed. So much better than the curry I had at another Thai place in Manly the day before. - Roasted duck fried rice ($17.90 AUD) - curry & turmeric powder, grilled pineapple, onion, garlic, shallot, egg and Chinese broccoli. Another well executed dish. Everyone loved this one. Generous portion of roasted duck and good wok hei on the rice. Only complaint is that there was barely any pineapple and I thought it was a tad heavy on the salt. - Hokkien noodle ($15.90 AUD) - stir fried egg Hokkien noodles with chicken, vegetables and oyster sauce. Good variety of vegetables but the sauce was a bit too sweet. Pretty average. - Soft shell crab with yellow curry ($20.90 AUD) - came with egg, celery and red chili peppers. This came out late as they messed up our original order. Luckily, the crab was delicious; lightly breaded and deep fried. The sauce had a good kick to it. Wasn't a fan of the celery as the only vegetable accompaniment. If you can get past the terrible service, the food is tasty and reasonably priced for the area.
