I must say my first impression of our room was a bit underwhelming judging by the furnishings and carpet but by the end of our stay it had grown on me. The best feature of the hotel and the money shot on the website is the beautiful sunny patio in back of the hotel which looks like an inn in Tuscany. We learned the property is a little over 20 years old and the current owners have been operating it for around 2 years. Pros: -great location, very close to town so walking is easy yet you are just far enough away from all the buzz in town -wonderful warm welcome by the hosts and throughout our stay -large size room with a sunny balcony -very large bathroom with updated fixtures -wonderfully fast free Wi-Fi -they offer a continental breakfast beginning at 7 along with a chef-prepared hot breakfast to order which was very nice -beds were decent although I would have preferred a different style of pillow Cons/Opportunities: -judging by our room (#3) most of the furnishings and fixtures look to be original-perhaps time for some upgrades -carpet a bit shabby in spots. -sound insulation from the hall (our room was very near the main door) wasn't the best. -annoying and noisy bathroom fan comes on with the light but runs an additional 7 minutes after the light is off (yes I timed it because it was That annoying). -because it's an older hotel the location and accessibility of electricity for charging gadgets isn't the best -like most businesses in the area, no A/C but even on hot days opening the big patio doors overnight let in a pleasant breeze Bottom line: the great location is the reason for staying here. The price (a bit steep) led me to expect a bit higher degree of luxury but as I mentioned, the longer we stayed the more I liked it.

All of the major tours and activities will pick you up in front or in downtown. The breakfast included is made to order and delicious. You can get eggs and bacon, pancakes, or several other options. There are remarkable views from the balconies of the rooms. The rooms are clean and neat but are somewhat small and sparsely appointed. However, if you are spending a lot of time in your room you are really missing out on all of what Queenstown has to offer.

The staff here is genuinely friendly and beyond accommodating. We had stayed 3 nights in town at the Sofitel (nice place too) and ended our trip by relaxing at Azur. When we were ready to go we called Azur and were told someone would be to us in 10 minutes. The scenery on the way to the Lodge was gorgeous. We drove along the lake and took a turn into a residential area. My husband looked at me like WTF, where are we going??? I too was a little concerned. As we drove around we ended up at a large gate with a keypad. Now we are talkin! We were let out at the main "house" where check in is as well as afternoon cocktails and breakfast is served. The view is incredible as it overlooks the lake. They offer board games and dvd's at no additional cost. They employ a chef and baker so everything is fresh made. Bottled water along with beer and soft drinks are complimentary throughout your stay. We were shown around and then taken by golf cart down to our Villa, like 30 seconds away. Once inside our bags were already inside the room along with a bottle of wine being chilled and some chocolates to go with it. We were shown how to operate the fireplace and heating system and the flatscreen TV with a surround sound system, this place is hooked up! There was a sofa sectional and a round glass table that seats 4 very comfortably. The bathroom was gorgeous with a tub that easily fits 2 and also keeps the water warm. The floors were also heated so you don't have to worry about slippers (those were also included)!! The bed was huge and comfortable. The view from our room was just insane. We had a patio where we could sit if we chose to. Did I mention the view here? We had all sorts of plans while at Azur and didn't do any of them. We literally never left our room for a solid 48 hours. We binge watched movies and TV shows as our laptop easily connected to the TV. They brought us whatever we wanted for breakfast, like anything we wanted...no menu just ask! Where can you ever do that? As for lunch and dinner we opted for takeout. They have the menus in the room from places in town. You pick up the phone tell the concierge at the main house what you want and in 30-40 minutes your food arrives on china with silverware. How badass is that? They do an afternoon tea service and evening canapés if you are interested. If you are lazy like we were, they bring it to your room. Azur offers free "shuttle" service to and from the airport as well as into town whenever you want. It's simply a phone call away. They understand customer service here at Azur and exceeded anything you can imagine. I travel for a living and don't think I've ever received service like this. Not to mention how genuinely friendly each staff member we encountered was. It's not inexpensive to stay here but I can honestly say it's worth every penny! We will return and spend more time at Azur, that's for sure!

The keys and WiFi instructions are placed inside the envelope with your name written on it. The room itself was neat. Bed were comfortable. The bathrooms are clean and chic. Bus stop is just a block away from this hotel. Town center is 15min by bus. Airport is 10min by bus. If you are not too keen on staying in the town center, this is a good option in Queenstown. Check out time is a little earlier than other hotels- its at 10am. Upon request they allowed us to check out a bit later, at 11am. They also held our bags in the office until we picked them up later in the day. Oh and they offer free WiFi.

The trail that runs by the lake is not fenced off, but hey nothing to worry here. We took both our kids, 8 and 3 along. They have a full kitchen WITH washer/dryers. For around $150 a night. On the Main Rd into Queenstown from Frankton. It's less than 1km from the centre of Queenstown. Arriving at the hotel you access the basement car park from a steep but not difficult side road. Up to this point I have not mentioned anything about the views, and they are very special. At the rear you can see the mountain with the Gondola ride to the top, at the front are the views of the wonderfully, almost surreal blue colour of Lake Wakitipu, while the views of the mountains including the Remarkables is simply stunning. It does not matter what the weather is like, the views are quite incredible. Checking you will find the hotel run by a really friendly down to earth couple who go out of their way on recommendations both in Queenstown and further afield. They are more than willing to spend time talking to you even while they have racks of brochures in the reception showing you ways to spend your time in the vicinity. There is no substitute for this level of communication. The rooms are very comfortable, with plenty of space including a kitchen area. With thin Singapore blood in our veins, we found we needed the heater and it did a great job of warming up the room. Cleanliness of the rooms was outstanding, as were all aspects of our stay here. Very highly recommended.

So I didn't have a whole lot of time in Queenstown but I wanted to see some of the major spots…read more Franz Josef glacier and also Milford Sound. I mulled around a couple of different companies but this was the only one that went to the glacier from Queenstown. For the value (yes I have the American dollar) it was pretty good! Firstly you get picked up (awesome!). You get an hour scenic flight there with a pretty knowledgable pilot. Elliot was mine, courteous and was great to point out things and answer questions. Anything he didn't know (which wasn't much) he grabbed out a map and quickly named it. Color me impressed to know so much about the surroundings! It was also a very comfortable flight, not bumpy, and you get a window. I got to sit in the front which gave me some cool views as well! Seamless transfer to another company which actually handles the glacier. Afterward you are flown up to the glacier by helicopter (super cool!). The glacier itself was stunning, however I personally felt it was a little too easy for me. ) For beginners it was great, you go in a line and follow your guide. I may have veered off a little ;-). My group had people huffing after 5-10 minutes though.. You get a little under 2 hours on the ice. If you are lucky you will see an avalanche. They try to show you some different formations in the ice. If you don't like wind turn around when the helicopter lands, trust me! So on the way back you do another scenic 1 hour flight which our's took us a different route. I saw a golden Tasman Sea. HOLY COW INCREDIBLE! I will also throw out I was a little panicked for most of the day because my wallet fell out of my bag. They were kind to check on it and the girl at the front let me borrow some money to get something to eat. She also backtracked to look for my wallet. They trusted me to go on the tour and back. She then took me around to look for said wallet (found it thankfully) and then also dropped me off somewhere after I came back to pay. It was very sweet of her and I won't forget the kindness. So the next day I decided to do Milford Sound. I had wanted to do the nature cruise but they didn't offer it. Turns out it's not much different so don't shell out the money. My cruise ship actually got us right in the waterfall (super cool). Again you take a scenic flight there and back (30 minutes this time) and then board a cruise ship (handled by a different company but your guide takes care of checking you in. Again, seamless). There was ample room on the ship which made getting a window seat very easy. It was very comfortable and the views were incredible! Also it helped that both days were wonderful weather. We saw dolphins and seals! Our instructor on the way there was polite and nice to point out things on the route. I had Elliot on the way back, who once again didn't disappoint with a great tour of the sky, and a perfect landing (prior flight attendant so I pay attention to these things). Elliot was then kind enough to drop me off in town at my next destination. Everyone I interacted here was incredibly warm and welcoming. You notice things like that when you travel. Especially with my mishaps on the first day they really went the extra mile. Would definitely recommend them if you are looking to see these things. This is the first time I did this so it was a treat!

On our entire trip, Queenstown was the one place that felt touristy. It's a backpackers haven, with…read morea condensed town filled with food, activities, and people. As such, a great option for lodging is the YHA Queenstown Central, party of the YHA New Zealand group. They offer perks for worldwide members, so be sure to ask. This facility is nicer than a typical hostel, with private room and private bathroom options. Once you get past the checkin desk and sparse lobby, it feels like a hotel. Our room was clean, and even had a view of the lake. The restroom was spacious and very modern. There isn't much in the way of amenities here, it's just a cheap, safe, and clean place to stay. They do not have elevators, so be ready to carry your luggage. We had some issues with noise as our room was below the common kitchen area, which despite being closed, was cleaned early morning. More than anything, this place is convenient to everything worth doing in town. For people venturing outside of the town, Uber is the easiest bet. There airport shuttles to/from the Frankton Airport just a 15 minute drive down the road. The Skyline is also just a quick walk away. We'd stay here again!

It felt like bunk beds....meaning for the price, we basically got a seat to ourselves, it did lay flat...but absolutely no privacy. literally felt like you were at camp in beds and could see everyone. So you got a seat with low dividers, no real pods or privacy and open air. Hate complaining about first class international...but for the money...not a great experience.
