There are many things that Abigail offers, but my personal concern was to wean myself off of Prilosec, due to the long term side effects. I had started taking it via a doctor's suggestion, over a year ago for stomach pain and discomfort, as well as nausea. My tests for an ulcer and acid reflux showed negative, and I was still having discomfort, but the doctor couldn't offer me any other alternatives. So, through Abigail's guidance (we ABSOLUTELY need acid in our stomachs to digest our food properly!) and weekly Maya Abdominal Therapy sessions, I changed my probiotics and digestive enzymes, replaced all the mercury fillings in my mouth, started hot caster oil packs on my stomach and gave myself daily self-abdominal massage. I was able to slowly reduce to 1/2 Prilosec tablets daily, then 1/4, then 1/4 every other day, to NONE! This happened over a period of about 6 months and a lot of hard work on my part. I have known Abigail personally for over 5 years. She is gentle, kind, sensitive, thoughtful and tremendously intuitive. When I came to Abigail I was 3 months postpartum and could not sit, stand, hold, or dance with my baby without being in excruciating pain. My Ob told me I probably had nerve entrapment in the scar tissue of my perineum (ouch!) and that I should see a physical therapist who specializes in the pelvic floor (a 6-8 week wait time with Kaiser). It hurt like electricity zinging me down there and it was also psychologically difficult since I couldn't hold my baby without being in pain. It also kept me from exercising, walking outings with my mom's group, and seeing friends. Shiela VanDeveer recommended I have a Mayan abdominal massage done and she gave me Abigail's contact info. Someone could have told me to spread peanut butter over it and I would have tried it. So a few weeks later I had this massage done by Abigail. First though she had me fill-out a very thorough intake form beforehand and we reviewed it in detail when I met with her in person. I noted that she took a very holistic view of my health, which I appreciated. The massage was gentle and the table/headrest comfortable. We chatted throughout and I got the sense she had a good working knowledge of the body and how to heal it. After the massage she instructed me to take a couple of supplements as well as to apply a castor oil pack daily. I followed her instructions and literally the next day I felt noticeably better, 80-90% better, in fact. I was stunned. I feared I would live with this pain for years. I met with her two more times for the same massage (primarily to move my uterus back in place) and to receive her health/nutrition/healing advice. My uterus is apparently stubborn and is happy in its non-ideal position but my pain is now completely gone (the pelvic floor physical therapist helped me relieve the last 10-20%). Abigail changed my life and added to my knowledge of health and healing. Abigail Reagan is an amazing midwife, and I would highly recommend her without hesitation to anyone considering a homebirth. We had an unusual situation. A midwife friend of ours was coming from Hawaii for a month to help with the birth of our second child at home, but we wanted a local midwife to assist. We ended up going with Abigail. Our midwife friend - who has been doing this for decades and has worked with numerous midwives around the world - was also really impressed with Abigail. Abigail is an incredibly good listener, compassionate, professional and competent. I was so impressed by her vast knowledge of various methods, techniques and practices. She can explain in great detail the western hospital techniques for childbirth, the midwife model, and lots of alternative therapies that she has studied. She had lots of herbal, dietary, homeopathic and other options for me in all sorts of different situations. She even attended classes on things like Mayan childbirth techniques using some kind of rebozo wrap thing. Having a homebirth midwife is such a wonderful luxury, at least with someone like Abigail. My prenatal and postnatal visits with her were so nurturing, informative, educational and enjoyable. She even has lovely teas and a beautiful space in which to meet. In the end, I was able to have the homebirth I wanted, and am so incredibly grateful for the presence of the two midwives who were there to guide me on that journey. read more

My daughter was born in August with the help and support of Abigail Reagan and an amazing supporting team (Catherine Stone - doula; Sheila Vanderveer- midwife; Spring Childers - apprentice midwife). The prenatal care which Abigail provided was what I had been searching for from my OB at CPMC but never received - care which involved a true dialogue about my pregnancy and labor. Instead of being whisked in and out of the examination room with barely a question answered, Abigail spent an hour-and-a-half or two at every appointment covering all my basic prenatal needs as well as getting to know me and my personal needs as well as my husband and his. It was this personal attention which immediately distinguished Abigail from my OB. In my labor, Abigail was ready for every issue that arose. After 24 hours of my not being able to keep fluids or food down, she administered an IV to give me strength to continue laboring. After labor had gone on for 30 hours, we discussed the pros and cons of breaking my water, which she then waited for my husband and me to make a decision about. When we had reached the 40th hour, we had a dialogue about the need to go to the hospital in order to ensure the safety of both baby and me if things did not progress. She then coached me through contractions with acupressure which helped me dilate fully, never pressuring me, just allowing me space to labor as I needed. All along she checked the baby's heartbeat with a doppler, giving me freedom of movement without monitors, but also peace of mind that the baby was doing well throughout the entire labor. Finally when it came time to push, through every dirty look I gave her, Abigail steadfastly and methodically kept the baby's progress slow enough so that I wouldn't tear as I delivered my 7 1/2 lb girl. She then administered a shot of pitocin when I started to bleed copiously so that the placenta would emerge and my uterus would contract as soon as possible. I had wanted a natural birth in my home with support and freedom to make choices which aren't always offered in a hospital environment. I feel so lucky to have had this desire met and my medical needs met as well. Abigail made all of this possible and I'm so grateful. read more

Abigail has helped me recover from my c-section in ways I couldn't find anywhere else. The biggest way is I had a constant pain from my scar, especially after long days of lifting the carseat in and out of the car. With Mayan abdominal massage and Abigail's guidance, my pain and discomfort dropped dramatically. I feel like I'm in a really good place with my body post-partum, and a lot of it has to do with Abigail. Her space is so welcoming. It's a rejuvenating, nourishing place, and I would recommend Mayan massage for anybody as part of their pre/post partum self-care.
