Lol... nah, nothin but love for this place (8/12/17)

I dedicate my 600th review to... Record Recycler. Def 5 stars in my book. Very unassuming record store in Torrance. You'll drive right by it if you're not careful. Some street parking, otherwise park around back. The hubs and I couldn't spend hours here like we wanted to on "National Vinyl Record Day" (8/12/17). We had intended only to check this place out with our children in tow. Oh my... It is clear that only quality records are bought and sold here. I sampled a few that I already had intentions of buying. Clean records with no major issues. Plus most of them had brand new inner sleeves AND new polypropylene outer sleeves. We bought one that didn't have an outer sleeve and the owner unexpectedly put a new one on it. Many genres. Mostly 33s. There is a 45 section, but I never start there. I should because there are some real gems. Most of the 12" vinyl I drooled over ran anywhere from about $3 to $20. Cash or plastic accepted. 2017 Yelp Challenge 66/100

This record store is amazing! It's a hidden gem. It is very organized and has a very great selection and great albums from tons of artists. The prices here are phenomenal! Most of the records are at retail price or below. For example, we found "Stop Making Sense" by talking heads on vinyl. This is usually 70$ including shipping but here it was 40$! It was a steal we had to grab! I would 10/10 recommend!

Zero offense to the people who gave RR a bad review, but I didn't experience any of the "horrible" conditions they spoke of. The shop itself is awesome; tucked away in Torrance on Crenshaw, not packed or picked through, and a solid collection with very solid prices. It definitely requires some picking through (records are loosely sorted by genre and alphabet), but that's sort of the "joy of the hunt" for people who love record stores anyway. On my first visit yesterday I got two great Beatles records for 10 bucks total, an awesome blues compilation for under 5, the Last Waltz triple-vinyl for 5, and a Willie Nelson for a dollar. And Roy, the owner, was super nice and cordial. There was one other customer when i came in and Roy went out of his way to tell the guy he would cut him a discount if he spent more than $100; at another point, Roy politely tried to dissuade a record seller who called over the phone from coming in since her/his selection was small and Roy didn't want them to waste a trip. And he thanked me for coming in when I complimented his selection. Maybe these super-negative review people just don't "get" how awesome, underground record store gems tend to work, or the slightly eccentric people that both own and frequent them (myself definitely included). This is no Amoeba (which I love), and that reality carries big "plusses" in addition to some "minuses" (smaller selection, not much new stuff, etc.). I'm stoked to return and had no idea there was another great indy record store so close to me in Hermosa Beach. Viva Roy!

Ask the Community - Record Recycler

Hello? Do they trade Cds also..?.

They only sell vinyl records. I think the closest record store to Record Recycler that buys CD's is Soundsations.

Puts all the other Bookoffs to shame... This is THE Japanese, authentic feeling Bookoff that you…read moreWANT to visit if you love anime, manga and Japanese culture. They have a $2 dollar Japanese used manga section on the right side of the store and if you're learning Japanese, this is a great motivator. I've been to Japan a few times and if you want to feel like you've stepped into a portal to Japan for a brief second, this is the place to visit, they occasionally speak in Japanese over the intercom which is a nice touch. They also have Japanese literature, magazines, games, movies, etc. This place is incredible and it's super organized. Many cool finds I've come across here including an oversized GANTZ special edition set print for a very good price. One of the girls who works here even mentioned that they can specifically order books for you and you can buy them and pick them up there for a pretty decent rate. I've only had one bad experience with one guy worker here who got mad I was looking in the storage drawers located in every aisle, but almost everyone here is very kind. I've never had any other Bookoff discourage looking through the extra storage, it was very unusual, there's also no sign that says not to do so. You will occasionally even find books straight from Kinokuniya that are brand new sealed that have been discounted here. This is THE Bookoff to go to, I would say the other Bookoffs in comparison aren't even worth visiting. If you're in the area, this is a must visit for fans of this kind of merch.

I'm not the biggest fan of Book Off if you ask any of my friends, largely because many of them…read morearen't the most organized (I'm unfortunately an EcoTown bias), but this is one of the better Book Off's in comparison to the other locations in SoCal. Definitely beats out ALL of the mall locations (I'm looking at you Lakewood and Del Amo), decently better than Monterey Park's and easily clears Little Tokyo's. This one is packed with goods, decently sized, but it's clean, doesn't have that weird "old items" smell you sometimes get from second hand stores and although, not as crazily organized, you can still reasonably navigate and peruse items without getting insanely overwhelmed. It's also one of the very few locations with a large stock of manga, magazines, games, books, and other media in Japanese. Value-wise, not too bad! I actually despise a lot of other Book Off locations for pricing still common, on the market prize figures for way over their actual MSRP. Think $60-80 for a prize figure that's second hand and opened that you can get for $20-30 online, unopened. This one had some prize figures for $30, which I kind of don't agree with, but with inflation, cons pricing prize figures at this cost too, and not paying shipping, I guess it sort of evens out. Though my friend's husband was able to get Japanese manga for like $3-4 which is a steal, so make sure to shop around and do comparisons. I think manga and printed material is probably way more worth it value-wise than anime goods like figures, etc. Service is friendly and efficient as all Book-Off's all.
