With the resurgence of Vinyl, this record shop is coming back into its own. His collection specializes in 70's rock and all manner of jazz, sole, r&b, and it's a place where you can easily eat an hour or more up just cruisin' his fantastic collection. And I guarantee there is always some manner of surprise waiting you within his stock. I'm yet to go through his .45 collection, it is h-u-g-e. I feel his pricing is pretty spot on and I think it's a downright true value shopping there. It is easy for me to give this record store five stars because amongst 15 different stores here in the LA area I have been to this store has the best prices. Approximately half the price of other record stores and while going through his selection of Records I was interested in almost every record was in very good scratchless condition which is what I look for and will only buy myself. My first trip there and took me two hours because I looked at everything he had the prices were that good I didn't mind being there. Ignore all the negative reviews here. If your serious about getting good records in good shape at a fair price this is the place to go. I almost don't wanna write a review to keep this hidden gem just a little more hidden but that wouldn't be fair to all the owners that truly do try to deliver quality that won't break ur budget. I got a total of 13 records for just over $70 which was an amazing deal for artist like pretenders, Rolling Stones, Beatles, U2, squeeze, psychedelic firs and more. This place is for real. A real vinyl store for real vinyl junkies. Lots & lots of LP's & 45's to sort thru and always something to find no matter what mood you're in. The place looks kind of seedy and unorganized but that doesnt really matter. There is some kind of filing system and the owner is helpful. Personaly I prefer to be left alone and just go wild in there. I like that there are listening stations where you can listen to and play-test your finds, quite helpful when it comes to choosing your selection. The best part about this place is the Low, Low prices even for "rarer" hard-to-find collector stuff, Man i wish i had discovered this place sooner. You can tell the owner buys quality when people come in to sell their records and rejects the garbage. I would assume you should keep that in mind if you do intend to sell your collection here. I found everything I had on my want list for today. the quality of the used records I bought today was great and worth their sticker price. I feel I actually got a great deal on some of the selections I made, since i was familiar what asking prices online are. It's your typical layout of tables of records in an empty room, but the quality of his collection puts this shop near the top of my list for best record shops in LA. So glad I found it. read more

I've been going to Record Recycler about once a month for the last 5 1/2 years and in that entire time I don't think I've ever left the store empty handed. If you're willing to look you'll come up with something you want every time. Always reasonable price-wise. Totally perplexed by the one star reviews. Only thing I can think of is that the owner has been in the game a long time and doesn't want to put to put up with your s**t. If you're a crust luster or shifty or a generally difficult person you'll probably get clowned/called out. I just got a record player as a birthday present, so I decided to go to a record store. Record Recycler was recommended to me by a friend, so I decided to go. I had very little money with me, so I had no idea what I was going to be able to afford. The owner was very nice, and after a few minutes of searching I found the album I had been looking for: Boston's first album. Although the album was used and the cover was kind of beat up, the record itself was in fantastic shape. I figured he would ask for $10, or even $15-20. But he told me I could buy it for a SINGLE DOLLAR! I took home the album and it sounds flawless. I also bought Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers for $2, a Santana double album for $3, and Led Zeppelin IV in near mint condition for $15. It was a great experience shopping at Record Recycler - I can't wait to go again on my next trip to L.A.! read more

I've been coming to this place for a few years now and I have always come out with some true gems for some truly incredible prices. Everything here is sorted by genre and in alphabetical order. The rest is up to you. The best thing about this place is that you can spend hours here looking and not be bothered by some annoying looming employee or rentacop like some other bigger record stores. read more

Stopped by looking for a specific record and help with replacing the cartridge on my record players needle. Got a new ortofon replacement cartridge. Owner was rude and sarcastic about it and made me feel like an idiot for asking. I usually spend at least $100 when I go to a record store all he had to do is at least show me how to do it. I would not reccomend anyone doing business with a place that doesn't know how to do something so simple and treats their customers with no respect. read more

Roy runs a no-frills emporium focusing on one thing and one thing only. Records. Miraculously he keeps an incredible selection of outstanding used jazz, rock and soul flowing through the door on a regular basis. If I make the trip down to Torrance from L.A. every 2 weeks or 2 months I know it will be well worth it. Roy's prices are beyond fair, they favor the buyer at every step. From the conversations I've had with him I think he's now going on 30 years in the business. That experience shows in what the business is about on so many levels. If connecting with the history of records is important to you, then you should go to Record Recycler. Meet Roy. He's the real deal and one of a vanishing breed. If you just need a shiny sealed copy of a Fleetwood Mac repress, I'm sure an Amazon drone is standing by, ready to deliver to your doorstep. Been wanting to give this record store a try but some of the comments scared me away. My fascination with vinyl led me to give the store a try anyway. Honestly, I am so happy I visited this business because there were so many Soul records here that are hard to find other places and at great prices. Most of the records range from $1.99 to $10 and every vinyl I looked at waa in great condition. The owner kept to himself (which can be a problem for those who need direction or someone to talk to) which I loved because I was not bothered and it gave me time to dig. There were too many times I wanted to scream because I found something rare to me, for $5.99. There were so many records I bought online here in better condition and at lower prices. Great record collection at good prices. However, this guy has major issues. I inquired for multiple album purchases is their a discount, as with most shops. I was berated and sworn out while stuffing his face with a sandwich. I was told "buy some records"....I had 200$ to spend o vinyl and he was an asshole. Reminds me of the record stores I used to visit in Hollywood like Aarons record store. I'm looking forward to visiting this store again. The owner is definitely a quirky guy - socially strange - the type Id rather just do business with and not try to chat up. Anyways, the store is no frills and full of vinyl on shelves. Records are split by genre and then alphabetically so thats helpful. Not much new stuff, although there seem to be bulk orders of lesser known artists sitting on the bottom shelves. Its about 2/3 rock and 1/3 jazz/blues. Mostly everything is marked, and prices on the things I was interested in were a few bucks more than I was willing to pay (Queen: Day at the Races, Flash, and Jazz were $7-$10), although they seemed to be in VG+/NM condition. Theres one testing station that actually has a decent headphone. Ended up with a VG+ Michael Jackson and VG+ Van Halen for ~$7. read more

this place is sweet because it's one of those hole-in-the-wall places with records stacked in all corners, and i'm guessing you could probably find some rare records, and there's definitely some good bargains to be had. it's not so sweet, though, because it's not organized (which is probably an impossible task at this point). i'm guessing the people working there would probably be helpful if you had some specific questions or knew what you were looking for. unfortunately, i'm usually just aimlessly browsing so it can be a bit overwhelming. it's kind of like going to a record garage sale, so if that sounds cool then you should hit this place up. read more

Just visited this place for the first time today and walked out with about 10 records. 9 of them motown/soul and one random Italian record. I was pleasantly surprised by the number of more obscure motown I was able to find - picked up three or four albums by Syreeta (Stevie Wonders former wife and collaborator, she is the female voice that sings background vocals on "If You Really Love Me" ) and one by Kim Weston in addition to two Temptation Christmas. I am not usually in this area but I'm glad I was able to come today. Will most definitely be back. read more

Ok I've read some of the negative reviews here....don't believe them. I visited for the first time today and found the store to have a great selection and very fair prices. Let's say that I'm the type of person with just too many records and have visited most of the record stores in LA and Orange County as well as collector shows, garage and estate sales etc. Roy keeps his store reasonably well organized, priced, and the records are clean all in plastic protectors. Overall the used record quality is very good + and above to mint condition. I hardly ever feel compelled to write record shop reviews...but this is an exception. Roy is a sharp guy and professional. This place is fantastic. This is my favorite place to spend a few hours looking through records in peace. I go in a couple times a month and always find some gems. I see a lot of negative reviews and I have to disagree. The owner just doesn't want to put up with crap. Don't come in trying to weasel anything out of him and you'll have a great experience. For example, I came up to the check out with a couple records that I had hid the week before. He called me out on it and asked me not to do that anymore. In my opinion, that's totally fair and I appreciate that he didn't make a big deal about it. He knows his stuff and is on top of his game. One of the best retailers for used vinyl LP's and 45's in southern California. Ive been collecting classic rock and jazz for several years and always manage to find at least one or two hidden treasures burried in a large inventory. The proprietor is knowledgable and honest about the pedigree of his merchandise. Two turntables with headphones are available to assess any potential purchase. I' ve been to about a dozen stores from ventura to orange county and have never been able to have pre purchase listen. Prices are fair and reasonable or even better. if your looking for a "high end" establishment along the with inflated prices then by all mean stick to shopping online or elsewhere. Came in just to check out the store with my wife and it reminded me of some of my younger years living in NY and visiting used record stores. Awesome collection of some of the music from my youth. The records I did browse seemed to be clean and free from any glaring scratches or marks. This place even have a couple of listening stations to listen to the record before buying it. I didn't do any serious looking since I only had 15mins to spare and my wife was with me. I ended up getting a few LPs and my wife picked one too. But I will check out the collection when I have more ample time. read more

this dude is a real a-hole. one weekend i called ahead to see if he was cash only and he had a real bad attitude. i show up 2 weeks later, a little after 11am and the store is closed. i call to let him know i'm outside of his business ready to spend money. he comes outside to tell me he's closed today and that he's only taking trades. i was'nt happy, but if he's closed during hours he has listed as open on his website and phone, he's not interested in my money. after 3pm, i go to the ralph's on the corner and i see a gentleman coming out with vinyl. i was pissed! i called to give hula hula from the laffalympics a piece of my mind. i hope he files chapter 11 before the end of the summer and i can pick over those same items at going out of business prices. read more
