I'd never heard of group therapy outside of a rehab setting, but the combination of individual attention and working with others in a group has made it easier for me to recognize how my own reactions are received in others. Going to Deep Eddy feels so indulgent because I am taking the time solely for working on myself. However, the time I spend here has improved my outlook, my self image, my attitude, and every single relationship in my life. I highly recommend Charlotte or Jev (or anyone they recommend) to those who are ready to spend time and attention on themselves.

I reached out to Deep Eddy to schedule a appointment with a PA or NP of psychiatry for medication…read moremanagement because I was finishing up a 12 week program at Meadows outpatient Center. I really only needed them to manage 4 medications (lithium, Quetiapine, lamotrigine and propranolol) no controlled substances. The dosages were already figured out. All the work had already been done for them. I also listed a bunch of other PRNs that I had tried while in treatment that i wasn't currently taking. Again no controlled substances, they were trazadone, gabapentin, hydroxyzine. I've been a RN for over 12 years, I was the supervisor on the first acute care floor in central tx to take on covid. The first wave really did a number on me that caused a lot of my PTSD. Anyway, what im trying to say is I tell people when they haven't been honest with me, to avoid being resentful toward them. When I tried to set up this appointment to see a PA for medication management I was denied because I was too "high acuity." What happened before that was me giving Christopher Keener some honest feedback on his response time. They wouldn't confirm the appointment until they had a credit card on file. Before I could put my husband's credit card on file I had to fill out a release of information form. Which made me feel like a criminal that had to prove my innocence. Credit card information has nothing to do with HIPAA. I have never heard or been asked to do this before. I was told I would be called as soon as it was in. I did it right away, waited, emailed to see if he received it, waited a little longer, tried to access my portal to enter the card but it hadn't been set up, I called back got someone different they said they sent him a message and he would be calling back in 20mins, it never happened that day. I wanted to get it done because I was finishing up treatment the next day and wouldn't have my phone on me. They would only hold the spot for 24hrs and i was worried I'd loose it. No attempt was made to reach out to me for clarification, no doc to doc was requested. Just a refusal. The corespondance is copied and pasted below. Notice the times. I gave him some honest feedback about response time at 11:46 and the refusal was sent at 11:52. I think somebody(Christopher Keener) may have got in their feelings and did this passive aggressive lash out. I'm really surprised that a therapist(Christopher keener) could have such thin skin. In my brief time as a patient of Roots Behavioral Health, I have received the worst treatment I…read morehave ever experienced from any establishment, medical or otherwise, in my entire life. For context, I'm currently taking two common psychiatric medications (bupropion aka Wellbutrin and duloxetine aka Cymbalta). Both of these drugs are highly physically addictive and cause horrendous withdrawals if you stop taking them. In fact, Cymbalta's withdrawals in particular are so infamous that they even have a name: Cymbalta syndrome. We're talking shakes, chills, sweats, dizziness, tics, palpitations, diarrhea, puking... definitely not a state that's conducive to being happy or productive or even functional. This practice dropped me like a hot potato, with no warning and no recourse, while I was dependent on these incredibly addictive drugs. And this was just the cherry on top of a long list of rude, dismissive, and sometimes outright disdainful behavior from these people. To start with, communication with this practice is nearly non-existent. If you are the type of psych patient who needs to be able to communicate with your clinician, tough luck. During the short time I was seeing one of their clinicians, the practice could only communicate with patients through an incredibly janky portal program called Klara. Klara requires three-factor authentication (not a typo) every single time you log in. Its minimalist user interface is just a plain white void with no settings or options, so it's not like I had the ability to make it any easier to use. Due to the jankiness of Klara I ended up missing appointments with these folks three separate times - twice because Klara has some kind of final step to finalize my appointment that I somehow did not see, and once because their scheduling system straight-up deleted my appointment. Three times I logged on for my appointment and nobody showed up. To their credit, Roots has since switched to an easier-to-use portal software called Athena, but this isn't without its problems, either. Way back in September they sent out messages saying that they would stop using Klara on October 1st, 2024, and that all patients would have to make Athena accounts before then. I tried several times to set up an account but Athena kept throwing up error messages. I have other doctors who use Athena and I don't have the same problem accessing my accounts with them. When I sent a screenshot of the error messages to the Roots folks, they had no solutions other than to try using my phone instead of my laptop to access the portal (not an option since I have motor skills issues that make it very hard for me to type on a phone). They also confirmed that use of the Athena portal was mandatory in order for me to remain a patient. Since it looked like this was not going to be possible, I sent them several messages requesting help in finding another med management practice whose communication options were more accessible. Big mistake. Unbeknownst to me, Roots has something in their fine print that says they will automatically dismiss anyone who makes noise about looking for another doctor. Something about "ensuring continuity of care". Seems like dropping people without a backup plan is the opposite of continuity of care, but what do I know? I'm "crazy", after all. I don't have enough information to speculate on how this could possibly be legal, but evidently it is. My requests for help finding another practice went unanswered for weeks. Instead, one (1) business day before my next scheduled appointment with Roots, I woke up to a text that said I had been discharged from the practice and that no further communications from me would be answered. They did reply to my frantic messages on Klara enough to explain about the fine print that I had violated, but stopped replying after that. And that was it. Cut loose while dependent on two highly addictive meds, and no way to get more. So now, at nearly 40 years old, I'm having to worry about crapping my pants in public due to the combination of GI symptoms from my untreated anxiety and GI symptoms from medication withdrawals. I have since found another practitioner, but NOT with any help from Roots. Avoid these people if you can. Utterly psychopathic behavior from people who purport to be in the mental health business. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

If you don't, you won't be able to get to it and see your account, billing, balance etc. Here's my experience: I went to Anew Era for 5 years. My psychiatrist was knowledgeable, understanding, and helpful. I was manually paying my standard balance each month. And the office people were great. But this place changed in early 2025. Suddenly, my psychiatrist of 4 years was gone, I started getting auto-billed really high amounts I'd never seen before with no explanation, and I was matched with a new psychiatrist I did not choose for myself. I was done when my balance showed $100 right before an appointment--an amount I've seen countless times before. I didn't pay it ahead of time, so they cancelled my appointment, which is completely understandable. But a few days later, I went to pay that $100 balance, and it had jumped to $400. Mind you, I hadn't had an appointment in those few days, the office told me there would be no late fees applied, and my medication was not refilled. How does my typical $100 balance suddenly soar to $400. I have never been charged that much before, so I checked my payment history and it was wiped clean. Why could I not see my previous statements all of the sudden, when I was able to for the past 4 years? I was going to call the office about it, but remembered when I called and asked about odd amounts they auto-charged me for in the past, they were rude, defensive, and wouldn't explain those strange charges. Keep in mind that for four years, my insurance did not change and I made consistent manual payments without a single issue. So recap: out of nowhere, my psychiatrist was gone without a word. They start auto-charging my card without my consent and prior notification--and the amounts are astronomically higher than anything I've paid over the last few years. On another note, the office people who answer the phones are just so awful to deal with. They're always angry, dismissive, not helpful, and rude to the patients for no reason. (I can only assume they're fed up because their phones are ringing off the hook due to all of their company's mistakes, billing discrepancies, sketchy practices, and lack of communication with patients) But office people, do not take your frustrations out on the patients, look at the bigger picture: the company you work for is causing all of these issues that you then have to deal with over the phones. I can only hope most of them are getting new jobs at a reliable company or health group, because they are not having a good time at Anew Era. Don't go here :)

There were occasions where sessions were rescheduled and, to my understanding, not later made up, while I was still billed. When I raised concerns about this, I felt that my perspective was not fully acknowledged or resolved in a way that felt satisfactory to me as a client. The program places a strong emphasis on client accountability, which can be valuable. However, from my point of view, when I asked questions about whether certain paid services had been fulfilled, I felt discouraged from continuing the conversation rather than supported in seeking clarity. I also perceived what felt like inconsistent flexibility among clients, where some individuals appeared to receive more leeway than others. When I attempted to hold the organization accountable as a paying customer, it seemed to create tension rather than collaboration. I want to add important context to my experience. At the time, I was newly sober and navigating early recovery, which for me involved vulnerability, past trauma, and difficulty with trust. Because of this, confidentiality and emotional safety were especially important to me. Hearing that information I believed was shared in a private, one-on-one coaching setting later appeared to be known by others within the organization or recovery community was deeply upsetting for me on a personal level. Regardless of intent, this affected my sense of trust and emotional safety during a critical period of my recovery journey. In addition to working a 12 step program, ARH connects each individual with a personal trainer and nutritionist. I'm thankful I was surrounded by such strong women during such a vulnerable time.
