Best to have reservations on Thurs-Sat night, as the place fills up rather quickly starting in the 5-6 range. As a fan of Asian cuisine, this little start up was a serious welcome and happy addition to the palouse. Spicy pork bulgogi is now an addiction. Sushi is flown in 2x a week, so uber fresh for those of us with discerning tastes. Prices are close to unbelievable, especially for the quality and size of the portions. Lunch special starting at 4 bucks a plate, dinner at 6 bucks a plate. What?! Need to be aware that sushi sometimes takes longer than the rest of the meal, as only two people are rolling, but worth the wait. Just look at your bill at the end of the meal, and be satisfied. Atmosphere could use some work, the only draw back. Too bright, not enough music (could use more authentic asian music to increase mood.) Service is good, warm people, happy 'tudes. top picks - spicy pork bulgogi, bibimbop, edamame, and of course the bento plate for which this restaurant is named. For sushi in a small town in Idaho, it doesn't get much better than this! Consistently yummy, reasonably priced and the service is always friendly and helpful which is a plus when considering a more adventurous dish, this is our go-to place for last minute not in the mood to cook meals. We definitely recommended but consider making reservations for big parties especially on weekends! read more

Some of the best sushi I've ever had (and I've had a LOT of sushi). Portions are generous, the teriyaki is phenomenal and (usually) service is pretty fast. They need to updated/clean up the inside a bit, but it's my favorite spot for sushi/Asian cuisine. Definitely would recommend it. read more

Ordered Bimbim Bop. First the egg was fried till the yoke was hard if I ordered it again I would ask them to prepare it runny, too much rice as a filler and overall the dish was a little sweet, but not bad. Had the 208 roll, octopus tuna snapper deep fried. I enjoyed it. Terrible service when we tried to leave. One girl took our card didn't come back and when we went to the register the girl that took our card said someone else needed to run it...ten minutes later we finally settle the check. I usually have enjoyed the food here, to the point that I'll come during my work breaks for takeout. The waiters are so kind when they do have the chance to interact with you. However, the customer service (on the part of management and overwhelmed staff) sucks so badly that I don't plan on returning. More often than not, my order is wrong and sometimes is so spicy I can't eat it without choking (after asking for very low spiciness). The waitstaff is always overwhelmed and tend to ignore everything around them as they have so many tasks to complete. The past few times, my dining companions were done eating by the time someone noticed me trying to get their attention (not to mention I hadn't touched my food in a half an hour). My visit last night is the reason I am giving this place a one star review. I ordered sushi and was given something entirely different than what I ordered and tasted nasty. I asked the waitress if it could be fixed, and she said I could buy a new sushi roll but must also pay for this one. I spoke with the manager who told me no one has ever complained before and implied I was lying while also saying I must pay for this gross and wrongly made order. And then she waved me away. I never, ever complain to staff or send dishes back--i am painfully shy. Thanks, manager--telling a customer, who politely asks about fixing a mistake, that I must be lying to get out of paying for it is ridiculous and unprofessional. You turned a request into a personal insult because you can't be bothered to fix a five dollar order. Congratulations, your customer service has turned me off from what used to be my favorite restaurant. read more

We started out our night waiting for over an hour to get our food, which should have been a sign for the rest of the night. Once we finally did get some of it, it was then spilled all over us, soaking my lap with water and my friend with salad and dressing. If that wasn't bad enough, one of our party had been waiting another half hour to get water that hadn't been filled since we arrived so she walked up to the station to get some and never did before we left. On top of that water that hadn't been filled, the water that had been spilled all over my lap was never replaced and I had to go to the kitchen to ask for boxes since we hadn't been spoken to since we received our spilled food. Finally, we got our check after getting quite excited that we could leave our disastrous night, but unfortunately we had to once again wait because I had been charged for food that I ordered but never was served, and to our surprise, we were still being charged full price for the food because "we had already eaten everything". I thought this was interesting since it required 5 boxes to take our leftovers. To end this absolutely terrible experience at Red Bento, we were offered a measly 10% discount. When I said that this was unsatisfactory, I was promptly told that if I was not happy with it then I would have to pay full price for everything. Needless to say, I recommend that no one goes to this awful excuse for a food establishment unless you want to be charged extra, have food and water spilled all over you, and wait at least an hour to get your food. read more

Terrible service!!!! We have been here many times before, I would say that we are loyal customers. But tonight they completely ignored us and we sat there for 30 minutes wondering if they were going to acknowledge us and take our order. We even asked them if they could come to take our order and they proceeded to ignore us for 10 more minutes. What really did it for us was when they took two other groups orders (who got there 15 minutes after us) before us. After that we got up and left. Ordered the lunch of "spicy pork bulgogi" thinking that name was written out for people who don't know what bulgogi is. Turns out that was my warning, as what I got was not spicy nor Dae Ji Bool Gogi nor anything resembling any Korean dish. It was incredibly sweet, couldn't have had any gochujang in it and when I asked for some sort of hot sauce one of the owners told me that "bulgogi means sweet and spicy." The meal came with w deep fat fried, tasteless gyozas and 4 pieces of also tasteless California rolls, that included pickled ginger composed mostly of cheap scraps (really!) and what appeared to be wasabi reconstituted from powder. There was a lettuce salad with a bit of shredded carrot on top. The lettuce was very fresh but the Japanese style dressing was overly sweet even for being Japanese. At 1:30 in the afternoon, the service was very slow despite few people in the restaurant. I never got my bill, no one inquired about my meal or if it was okay, or if I required anything else. I was so disappointed when I went to Red Bento. I went to visit family in Moscow and wanted to treat everyone to dinner, so I went in for take out. The woman at the counter didn't speak English well, so I tried to be very clear with her about my order. She was in a rush to take my order, as they were understaffed, and although I ordered two Bento box dinners, I even held my fingers up to show her I wanted two, she only gave me one. My two full sized sushi rolls were put into one box, even though they were supposed to be for separate people, and we weren't even given two servings of wasabi and ginger. She told me it would be 15 to 20 minutes, it was 27. When I checked my order before leaving, and (after I asked for more ginger and wasabi from the young waitress, she was very helpful) I told the younger woman working there that the order was wrong. She tried to explain to the older woman what happened, the woman told me I ordered wrong, and told the younger girl, SSSHHHH! I tried explaining why I held my fingers up to show her I wanted two orders, and she told me I was wrong, it was my fault, I ordered wrong, and had no reason to be mad just because I was the customer. I asked how long to just get one more order, she said 20 to 30 minutes, wouldn't even consider trying to put a rush on it. I am so disappointed because the food was actually pretty good, I'm just not used to being treated so poorly. I was super pleased to find another better place on Washington Street, and it was way less expensive, but I strongly urge no one to subject themself to this kind of abuse. read more

Do you know that when this place first opened in Moscow years ago, we were their first customers? The people that worked there knew us well and were kind, detail oriented and offered very tasty food. I especially liked the chicken breast teriyaki. We left town for a few years and returned last summer to find there are different owners, or perhaps they're family of the previous owners? The ambience has changed some for me. It seems more chaotic there now and every time I have come here since returning, it seems they're training someone new, or perhaps that is just how poorly some of their employees perform. I was sad to see today that when I went to go order my once favorite chicken breast teriyaki, they no longer carry it. I asked if it was white meat and she couldn't give me an answer. I ordered anyway, crossing my fingers.. it was dry :( I could probably make a better teriyaki (white meat) at home, but takeout is for those nights when you're too busy to cook. If you're gonna pay for good food, you expect GOOD food. I think they just need to fine tune the ambience, employees and food and the place would be great. My buddy and I came in for dinner a few Sundays ago. First, we stood up front for ten minutes before being greeted by anyone. Then we waited another 10 minutes before anyone came up to the table. We had to stand up and ask someone to take our order. At that point, we decided to take our food to go. Then the server said if we're doing it to go we can go up front to order. The service was so bad we didn't want to stick around so we drank our beers and got our food and left. We arrive home to find we didn't get our soups or sushi rolls. After about five minutes on the phone they tell me our server forgot to put it in the bag. We told them we were on our way back to get it. We arrive back to find out they gave our food away and had to wait for a new one. When I asked about our soups she says oh that's a dine in only thing. Well the menu doesn't say that. We ordered bento boxes and it explicitly says soup included. So I ask why didn't anyone bring us soup when we were sitting for 20 minutes without any service? The cook finally brings out our rolls and I asked about the soup and he goes I don't know what you're talking about. I said we were supposed to get soups but we never got them. He tells me you're going to have to go find a server and ask them. That's when I said, excuse me what kind of place is this? I do not need to go find your employees and find out where my food is that I already paid for. You work here. I don't work here. Why would I get up and go behind the counter to find out where my stuff is? Will never eat here again. Will never recommend this place again. From what I've heard ever since they moved it is just crappier than it's ever been in its life. Not a single person I know who's tried it has had a good thing to say. Get out of the business while you can. Quit wasting money and quit wasting this communities time. I left my number to be contacted by an owner or manager and haven't heard a word. read more

Yay! An affordable place to get decent sushi in the Pullman/Moscow area! I was so excited to try this place. We've only been once and we ordered to-go, so I can't really speak to the service, but they did let us sit at the sushi bar and gave us miso soup and water while we waited for our order which was very nice. The roll selection isn't great, it seems like most of the rolls were just california rolls with different stuff on top, and they had a lot of cream cheese and deep fried rolls which is unfortunate, but we're not exactly in a big city here so I'm not going to complain too much about that. This place is definitely as good or better than Tokyo Seoul (same owners?)and about half the price. The menus are strikingly similar. The only real difference I could see was that Red Bento's menu is about half the size as is the restaurant itself and while the prices aren't quite half those at Tokyo Seoul they are noticeably less. It's definitely worth the drive from Pullman. read more

Whatever server was picking up the phone was a completely challenged person. Even though he was American and spoke fluent English I would have been better off speaking to the owners whose first language isn't English. I could understand maybe missing me saying bento box the first time. However after clarifying it he still struggled to grasp the concept. I've ordered plenty of times before ordering a bento box with x and y. Never before have I not had them then clarify one or 2 sides after I named 2 and then somehow order 2 boxes instead of the one which by his own words he explained came with 2 sides. Somehow not grasping that the definition of something with x and y literally means not 2. If I had wanted 2 boxes I would have said...2 bento boxes one with x and one with y. Now all this aside I get it new, or maybe you misheard sure but to then tell me I need to order it correctly? How much clearer can a dinner bento box with x and y be. Leave your attitude for the people who want to ignore you not the ones paying your wage. read more

We've loved Red Bento for years. Sadly we will no longer be patrons of your business and it's not because of the food. We had a $50 gift card and after our meal we were told that it "expired" because of a new system (without any warning of expiration.) The supervisor said she would not honor it. Sadly, not only did you "steal" that $50 gift card from us, but you also lost our business for life. Very disappointed by the way we were treated over this. Not honest business. Very dishonest. I placed a carry out order. I asked the girl at the counter to double check the order because they have shorted it before. She said I already did. So I got home and I was short all of the salads and a Spicy Tuna roll. I called them and asked if they could refund some of our money on my card and they said no. She tells me there is a board that they write all of the names of the people with screwed up orders on. This way they can get credit the the next time they come in. If you need a board on your wall for messed up orders maybe you should fire someone. I won't be going back. read more

I would give 0 stars if it was possible. My boyfriend and I were excited to see the new place, but it was the worst restaurant experience either of us have ever had. We barely got a greeting, then it took 20 minutes just to get us water. When they finally took our order, we got my main dish 30 minutes before we got our appetizer, which came with my boyfriends dinner, so it wasn't even an appetizer anymore. There wasn't any more than 5 or so tables so it's not like they were just busy, and everyone else seemed to be having a bad time as well. People were having to get their own menus and chopsticks, and we overheard multiple orders were being messed up. We didn't even get one of our appetizer orders, and when we asked about it the waitress just said "there must've been some miscommunication", like it was our fault. They also bumped the prices up by a lot, but the food isn't even good anymore! We used to go all the time but we will never be going back. read more

The food was good, but the service was awful! When I walked up they asked to help me??? I've never been asked to be helped at a sit down place before. When my order was taken I asked for an appetizer to share with my family, it didn't come. Then they didn't bring me my entree and brought me the appetizer as my entree. Those are all honest mistakes. This was the worst experience I have ever had in a restaurant!! I got the Phad Thai with pork and one star. It was so spicy it burnt my entire mouth and I couldn't even eat it. My mouth still burned 20 minutes after I took a bite. I asked the waiter if I could get it remade and she looked at me and said no. I told her they could just take it because I was not going to eat it and she said I still had to pay $10 for food that I wasn't even going to touch. I would not recommend. I love Red Bento's food but today's service was absolutely terrible. We got seated within 5 minutes of arriving, place was busy because of Valentine's day but there were always empty tables. Once seated, we then waited for over 20 minutes before I asked for a server to take our order. We got our appetizers with 2 of our sushi rolls and then we waited for over an hour for our remaining 2 sushi rolls. After being told multiple times that our rolls would be 10 minutes out, we asked for our check and just to have our remaining rolls to just be boxed up. After waiting another 45 minutes we were told that 1 roll was done (and apparently just sitting there for 30 minutes) and the other roll would be another 15 minutes. After I complained about having to wait the waitress then brought out the roll that was sitting around and still said the last roll would be yet another 10 minutes. After being here for over 2 hours I finally requested a refund for the half of our food that we never got. Even though it was Valentine's day, Red Bento was in no way ready for the mediocre crowd that they had. They were busy, but there was never a full house. Most people in the section that we were seated in all waited over an hour for their food. read more

We ate there last evening. We arrived at 5:25 there was only 3 other tables with costumers. We ordered at 5:35, and only ordered a salad an order of egg rolls, and 2 Sushi rolls. As there was no one else to speak of my wife and I thought we would be served shortly, waited and received our egg rolls and salad at 6:02 and was asked if we wanted sweet and sour sauce. About 6:05 our waiter was standing and talking with other employees, and my wife went to ask and he said I'm sorry I forgot your sauce. At 6:18 I told my wife if we didn't receive our rolls in 6 minutes I would ask what we owed for what we received, pay and leave. We were served our sushi at about 6:22. I felt the food was ok, but the service was not. I see the waiter playing on his phone, and sending out take out orders, and the cooks going in and out of the kitchen and still no food. I wanted to leave a penny for a tip, but left no tip, as I was very upset! We have been loyal customers in the old place for years. The food quality is down and the service horrible! We have eaten at the new place 5 times, only once was the service acceptable! The food is getting better, and the service worse! Don't think we will return! read more

I was a huge fan of the Moscow and pullman locations. Then they opened this location and wow opened way to early. First time we went in it took 1 hr on our 1 hr lunch break to get our order so we had to leave. Every time I call it takes 20 plus rings to get them to answer. Customer service is horrible and they still haven't updated there menu online and no to go menus. I will never return to any red bento location and I highly recommend every one stay away. read more

Normally don't write bad things about restaurants but was so annoyed by the service. I wasn't even dining in, just picking up an order. I called in an order and they told me 20 minutes. I showed up 25 minutes after I ordered and when I came to the front counter I was told to take a seat as they were working on my order. I could see a to go bag sitting on the counter and thought it must be someone else's order. After 15 minutes I asked about my order and was told they are working on it. Finally, about 10 minutes later, the only waiter they had working asked what my name was and pulled the to go bag off the counter that had been sitting there the whole time. The fact that they feel they must hide negative reviews makes me wonder how many more negative ones they have hidden. As a Moscow college student I will admit I used to order carry out from this cafeteria, that is until they added the straw that broke the camal's back. Prices. A meal that used to cost $5.50 now costs $8.50 and a California Roll rose from $2.50 to $4.50 and for what? The new addition of the Chinese menu that even the employees have difficulty speaking positively about. In addition to the recent price raises, Red Bento shows no support for their local college crowd, the ones who probably generate more than half of their revenue. They provide no coupons in University of Idaho's "College Survival Guide" and have recently let go employees who are unable to work a full-time schedule-AKA college students. Now where should I start on the actual taste of the food... Some of their sushi rolls are good I will concede. However, with the recent price increase you are much better off going to Tokoyo Seoul as the prices will be competitve and you will actually be recivieving a roll that reflects the price you paid. Although the portion sizes of thier chicken, beef, ect. are decent, the quality of the food is sub-par. A close friend of mine, another college student/previous Bento advocate, recently recieved close to RAW chicken in his take-out order. To add insult to injury, he stated, "It was like pulling teeth to get them to give me another meal.." even though he brought them back the entire meal to prove their poor preparation. Although this may seem like a bit over the top, I assure you it is all accurate. As mentioned, I used to eat out at Bento somewhat regularly until I finally decided that the poor food, high prices, lack of local support, and poor employee treament was more than enough reasons for me to not support them. If you want good Asian food check out Tokyo Seoul. If you are looking for awesome BBQ food with a twist try Loco Grinz. Ordered the Katsudon, and they brought a Katsu Udon. When I told them about the mistake, they said I needed to order the Katsudonburi, even though it says Katsudon right on their menu, nowhere does it say Katsudonburi. So they just stuck me with this bowl of soy sauce flavored water with pieces of soggy fried chicken swimming around in it. Will never go again. read more

The first time I visited this restaurant it was fairly new. We came in because we were craving sushi and been told of this new place. The person that recommended it failed to mention not to come during peak times, like lunch or dinner. We had to wait about 15 minutes for a table because seating is limited. The atmosphere was fine but the waiting area could be slightly improved. After being seated, we waited a few more moments for out waitress who stopped by to inform us that if we were wanting to order sushi, it would be an hour and a half wait at least. For a sushi restaurant, this is not ok. So our craving got the best of us and we decided to wait. Little did we know that the main sushi chef was out sick and the back-up was slow and didn't know how to make all the rolls. To make matters worse, after waiting almost 2 full hours, we received sub-par sushi and an ok but not cheap price and it wasn't made correctly. This may be a good place for a pick-up order, but don't go during peak meal hours unless you have a long time to wait. I don't think this is a place I would go back to as there are better options in the area at the same price. The food was ok, I have had better, and the service was slow and not very friendly. Maybe it has improved since their opening but I can't say I am willing to pay to find out. For a good alternative, Tokyo Seoul in Pullman is where I would recommend. read more

I don't even know where to begin with this mess of a restaurarnt. First, the service was slow. Not in a reasonable manner. We did have a slightly large group of 7, but our different orders came out 45 minutes. I know my family was all raised to wait until everyone was served, so my cousins were patiently waiting to start their meals to, when the waitress came over and asked if we needed boxes. Um, 2 people at our table still hadn't received their food. She promptly went to check on our orders, but apparently only checked on one, because my cousin's meal came out and I waited an additional 5 minutes until another server came near us. I told him my meal hadn't come out, and the rest of my party was almost done with their meals. He said he would check, and came back to tell me that my waitress hadn't had the time to check on my meal. A couple minutes later she comes over and blames the printer on the kitchen never seeing my order. I should have cancelled it, because when I did receive my food, it was bad. I chose a bento box with spicy chicken and the spicy tuna roll. The chicken basically was just coated in sriracha sauce, no real flavor. The spicy tuna roll wasn't spicy and I couldn't taste any tuna. There was weird, flavorless edamame in the box, but it was so bland I just left it. For $13, I received a horrible meal and horrible service. I've had better sushi from grocery stores. I don't plan on ever going back to Red Bento, but if I do, the only thing I will order is water. read more

I was extremely disappointed with my experience at Red Bento. We decided to try it out on a Saturday. For a sunny Saturday they were surprisingly not busy. We waited a long time before anyone came and took a drink order and this seemed to be a recurring theme. We waited 30+ mins for our food and only then did we recieve one of TWO meals. We waited 15 mins more, all the while food getting cold, and then walked out. Still never having seen one of the meals we ordered. We also listened to a conversation with another table whose orders had been messed up and watched a 4 top near us receive one dish every 10-15 mins.
