Debatably the worst food I've had in years. Flavorless. Bland. Not cooked all the way. Not what I ordered. The attached picture is what I received after ordering fried rice... it's just white rice, boiled chicken, and no seasonings or anything else. I tried to call the restaurant after to see what happened and the owner wouldn't even get on the phone, instead he was talking in the background saying it was my fault to the hostess. We had an absolutely delicious Chinese dinner here! So much better than what the weird Spokane scene tries to pass off as Chinese food. My Hubby was ecstatic that they had a secret menu, and he went straight for the pork belly. They have Phoenix & Dragon which is one of my faves, and it was sooo good. The potstickers are the kind we love, and have sort of a thicker dough quality with generous sausage stuffing. Stopped by for lunch and the place was completely empty (not uncommon these days, we often dine alone). I was told there would be an upcharge for plating my food so that the sweet & sour didn't run in to the chow mein. Since they put all the food on a single plate, I asked for the rice to be the middle - to catch the sauce from the sweet and sour shrimp. Sorry, that's not a substitution, my guy. That's just a simple request...especially when your restaurant was void of any income at that moment. Good luck New Garden! If your going to spend your hard earned money these days for a treat of something good this is not the place. I love Chinese food and this was the worst I've ever paid for. I stopped by on my way home and thought I would try New Garden Restaurant. I ordered the dinner portion of house chow main with shrimp and beef only Plus an order of egg rolls. The 3 egg rolls were dripping grease with a smell like the grease hadent been changed in a while. You could literally squeeze out a couple paper towls of grease from each egg roll. I picked one out to eat on the way home and it dripped all down my shirt. The dinner portion of chow main had a whopping TWO pieces of shrimp. Not to mention I could have bought better in the frozen section of the grocery store. There is nothing authentic from what I purchased at New Garden Restaurant. It's a treat to go out to eat for me and I will NEVER stop at New Garden Restaurant again. Including the tip the cost was $30. Really disappointed with my meal. I ordered for pick up the szechuan chicken and the chicken had fatty pieces all over it and was very chewy. Also, it was $17.95 and online it was listed as $13.95 and they failed to mention the new price until I got there and explained that last week they raised their prices. I would not have ordered here if I knew it was going to be that much for one dish which wasn't even good! Last thing, the food leaked everywhere in the bag on the 5 minute ride home and was a mess to clean up. Will never order here again. read more

Best Chicken Nuggets with Gravy ... evah!!! The Almond Chicken dish at popular New Garden Chinese Restaurant in Pullman, WA held one of my biggest food discoveries ever. If you get only one dish at New Garden (and I can't fault you if you do), that dish should be the Almond Chicken. Sure, it may not really be "Chinese" or have "Almonds," but it's breaded tender Chicken Chunks smothered with creamy White Gravy ... and its' the best ever! As for the other Chinese food, well, it's not the best ... nor the worst ... so three stars at best. I also tried the Hunan Beef, Stir-fried Mix Vegetables, and Barbecue Pork (Char Siu). I wouldn't really order any of them again, but you're in Pullman, so, take whatever Chinese food you can get, right? Just make sure you get the Almond Chicken ... aka the best Chicken Nuggets and Gravy ever. Trust me, the 12-year-old in you will totally love snacking on McNuggets like a grown-up. read more

A very old fashioned type of restaurant. Interior was a little outdated. The food was not the best Chinese food I've had but it wasn't the worst. The service was impeccable. The young ladies that were there were extremely attentive to their customers and were very polite and courteous towards me. My daughter and I started off with the pot stickers and the dumpling it was served in was a little gummy and chewy. The meat inside, I have no clue if it was pork or beef. They weren't very tasty. I ordered the general Tso's Chicken(Orange chicken) and it was a very large portion. The chicken came out in a dish and was almost submerged in orange sauce(which wasn't very appetizing). It also had small stalks of broccoli around the edge of the plate which weren't very tasteful as well. The chicken was pretty flavorful but nothing out of the ordinary. Our waitress brought out rice(which I didn't eat) and what my daughter ordered which was the lo mein noodle dish. Again, very large portion. She didn't seem to like it too much. However, she is 5 years old and can sometimes be pretty picky with food. Honestly, the service there is what makes that place. The staff was very nice and courteous. The restaurant looks a bit dated but it's spacious and clean. There's a waterfall outside, which is pretty random haha. Their fried rice has a similar distinct smokey taste. A restaurant in my hometown in Hawai'i has the same taste so it was huge surprise when I took my first bite of their kim chee fried rice! Their hot and sour soup is one of the best I've had in the mainland and the best I've had in Pullman. I wasn't impressed with the mapo tofu and the sauce boyfriend's sweet and sour pork just tasted like ketchup but I'd come back for the fried rice and hot and sour soup, and to try other items on their menu! I need to update my review. I ordered pot stickers and a large Hot & Sour Soup. The soup had shrimp in it. This is not disclosed on the menu. Fortunately, I don't have a shellfish allergy but personally, I don't like shrimp and i CERTAINLY don't like discovering shrimp in my food especially when it's not disclosed on the menu. If someone has a shellfish allergy and they order this soup thinking there's no shrimp in the dish, that could be a potentially serious problem. If you dine at this restaurant and you have food allergies, you need to think two or three steps ahead and ask them SPECIFICALLY about this because they're not going to tell you. Don't assume that just because you don't see a risky food item that it's not in the dish. The best Chinese place following the Red Bento. If you need cheaper food than what you can get at the Red Bento then go here. They have reasonably priced dishes and portion sizes. Avoid the Emerald Chinese restaurant because this restaurant is better and the food is more flavorful than at the emerald. I can't count how many times I came here when I went to school here. It's a relatively small place but the food was always excellent and I didn't mind drinking RC Cola. I know it's hard to believe that the best almond fried chicken could be from this cozy Chinese restaurant in the metropolis that is Pullman, Washington...but it is the truth. Being from "the coast" where Asian food is abundant, I have had my fair share of ah-mazing Chinese om nom nom goodness. But, I hate to admit that my small-town, picky-as-hell boyfriend was right...the food here is just frikkin' amazing. It really is the BEST almond fried chicken that I have had since that small Chinese place (where my parents took my sister and me to just about every weekend when we were kids) by the Seattle Ferry Terminal closed down about a decade ago. I recently tried the broccoli beef dish and that was super yummy, too. Gah. And, that sweet n' sour chicken...can't get enough of it. The prawns and vegetables? Winner. We like to buy the special/combo/something to eat-in and then a dinner entrée for take-out just so we can have more when we get home. If you are seeking traditional Chinese food, where you get broiled snails or pickled pig-ears, then maybe this place isn't your style. I usually get the beef broccoli combo. This place is really delicious; but it is American Chinese food. Not authentic Chinese food. Just know that going in. I love the food portions they give you. The only thing I would complain about is the pork fried rice being a bit dry and tasteless. The entree itself is pretty good but the sides aren't that great. The waitresses are very friendly and genuinely are trying to do their best. They are college students like myself and I think they're doing a great job. Cream Cheese Wontons are delicious and the Kung Pao Veggies are great... just ask to add Tofu. Their portions are generous and you simply cannot beat their lunch menu! It is totally worth it. The portions are large, and I usually have left with leftovers. My usual - chicken with cashews (I ask for it to be made spicy) or one of the combo dishes.
