Visiting with kids age 10 and 12, wanted to book a bike tour to see the sights but avoid too much walking. This was perfect! Our guide Paul was attentive and informative and fun. The route was fine for my least coordinated kid and family of almost-never-bikers. They put us with 2 other families with younger kids (youngest was 8), which was smart. Because we were in the tube, didn't get their attempts to contact us by phone, text or mail. When we got out of the Tube, we got a call from Chris; they waited for us! We were about 10 minutes late and I felt so bad but I give them credit for making the effort to accommodate us. Our guide, Heath did an excellent job giving us the Grand Tour which I would highly recommend. He knows his History of the city well and weaves in interesting story lines with intrigue and humor.

The bikes were a bit older, not the best shape, but they were very smooth and worked well. We were given excellent instructions along the route on how to follow him for utmost safety. We hit all the major stops, which I'll spare you the details. Our only critique would be a little shorter on the stops & a little more time riding. If we cut maybe a minute or two from each stop then we could've built in three more sites perhaps. As some of the stops were pushing 15 mins. Overall good value for the amount of time spent.

For the longer version... We met at Bermondsey tube and walked to the pub that would be the start and end of our trip The Old Justice. Ian, our guide, along with his sister, Jacquie, set us up with bikes and helmets (optional) and we set off on our tour of Hidden London. As an Eastender myself, this was a great tour of areas I've never had an opportunity to visit on both sides of the river. The tour hits destinations like the Mayor's office, Tower Bridge, Tower of London, Wapping, Shadwell, Canary Wharf, Canada Water and Bermondsey. I'd hate to give it all away, since these special places are 'hidden' for a reason so you can go on this tour and feel like you must be the only one to know about them, appreciate them and understand what it is that makes them so special. (I do!) What makes the tour even more special is that you really get a unique view of the city (forget the hop-on-hop-off) and cover so much ground in a relatively short amount of time. If you have questions, both Ian and Jacquie are filled with an amazing amount of knowledge about the areas. Occasionally, Ian would pull out an iPad and supplement our view of the area with historical photos or paintings. It really puts things in perspective on how much London has changed. If you are debating on whether this is the tour for you (or any of their tours for that matter), may I just say that this is an incredible value for the money. I've been on plenty of day trips and the cost for mileage, knowledge, and fun cannot be beaten. I would suggest any one of the tours to my visiting friends for a great day out and I'll definitely be signing up for the Greenwich tour in the near future!

Ginette met us at the Richmond tub station and walked us to a quiet street were she had our bikes…read moreready. She fitted my family and I and we took a little ride down the street to get comfortable. Then she led us on a few quiet city streets to Richmond Park, where were looked at the remains of Richmond Palace. Ginette was very knowledgeable on the history of the area and England in general. We rode along the Thames to Kingston, where she suggested a place to grab lunch, then we ate it sitting next to the river. We made two stops at pubs for a drink and cakes. Our ride ended at Hampton Court Palace after riding through the lesser-known park behind the palace. It was great to get out of the city and experience the English countryside, and Ginette was a great guide!

He knows Cambridge inside out, and it was great to get a fresh, insider's perspective on the city. The cycling wasn't too taxing - 90 minutes, fairly flat - but there was enough of it that you felt you had done some exercise. Anthony kept the chat going - interesting and fun facts - of which Cambridge has plenty. The equipment was good quality, the routes interesting and, all in all, it's hard to think how it could be any better. Oh, and afterwards we went for a sensational lunch at the Free Press pub round the corner. A great day.

BEWARE!!!! Conned me out of $125!!…read more I requested a 6pm tour for myself and my daughter via their website. However when I arrived at their offices, I was told that because there was insufficient people for the 6pm tour they had changed my time to 3pm and I had accepted this when making payment. This was not clearly advised to me, otherwise I would have canceled and not wasted my time showing up at 6pm. When I ask for a refund they refused as...get this...I was a no-show for the 3pm tour!!! I have contacted the police to make a formal complaint.

That deal currently doesn't exist on the Big Bus Tours site. I find it helpful doing a bus tour in a city that you are visiting for the first time. I've done such tours in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Shanghai, and London. Of course, it's also fun to take a tour when you've been in a city before. New York comes to mind. Anyway, I decided to get a ticket from Big Bus Tours when I was doing touristy things in Piccadilly Circus. I am normally a planner (I got a city pass to various tourist attractions), but for tours, I show up at the stop. There's a reason why I do it. You can often get a deal. I ended up getting a three-day pass, but I only paid for two days. It was nice to get an extra day for free. There were three different routes that this bus company offers. I did all three, which was great. You get a pair of headphones and you listen to the audio detailing what you are seeing. It's informative and fun. You can choose the language that you want. You hop on a double-decker bus that allows you to hop off to visit a touristy site (Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park, Big Ben, etc.) and hop back on when you're done. Naturally, if you want to stay for the full tour, it's cool, too. Top floor is best for taking photos, which I did. It was December when I was in London. I recommend wearing a hat, a warm coat, and gloves to keep warm. It can get a bit windy, but I was fine. It did rain on my last day, so I sat inside. Taking photos was fine, but you deal with the window in front of you and potential glare. It was comfortable and a great learning experience as a tourist. Then when the driver did arrive he stopped briefly well before the spot and immediately took off. A group of us all had to run after him. In fact the sales guy told us to run. Wtf?!? When I complained to the driver, he yelled at me like it's my fault. 2nd stop, we waited again almost an hour for the red line. When I complained to him he also yelled at me. Horrible drivers. Horrible experience. By the way, we saw multiple buses coma and go from the other companies as we waited. Don't use Big Bus!!!! Ted, the 3rd driver was nice. Ted, I'd suggest switch companies.
