My wife and I took the Royal London bike tour with Jamie and had a great time. It's an efficient way to cover many of the major sites in London (Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, the Royal Parks, etc.). Jamie is a true Londoner and did a great job mixing in historic facts with appropriately-corny jokes. The tour is about 4 hours long, and includes a 30 minute lunch break at Trafalgar Square, which is about enough time to grab a sandwich and coffee from one of the many Pret locations on the square, but not really enough time to eat at a sit-down restaurant. There is almost no on-street riding on the tour route, so it's a very easy ride, but still covers about 7 miles from start to finish. At the time of this review the Royal London tour is only £22 which is easily one of the best values in the entire city.

Most perfect way of spending an afternoon in London!

If someone were to ask, "Describe your absolute DREAM vacation?" I wouldn't hesitate to say, "Go BACK to Fat Tire and take *another* bike tour of London!" Is there any better feeling in the world than gliding on your bike with the sun gently kissing your skin and the wind running its fingers through your hair? YES! Having that same sensation under a brilliant London sky and rolling past the opulence of the Royal Gardens and other London landmarks. The tour is extremely informative with an engaging and fun tour guide! Your tour will include stops at Buckingham Palace, Kensignton Palace, the gilded monolithic Albert Memorial, the giant lions in Trafalgar Square that were the inspiration for Aslan, and many more! Fat Tire bikes are of excellent quality and I felt safe and secure the entire time even if I was heavily visually distracted by an overload of flora and gorgeous architecture! Fat Tire is also respectful of upholding the law. We were told walk our bikes in a certain Royal Park. While we were doing so in elderly British man came up to our group and said to our tour guide how he commended us for obeying the law, not many bicyclists do and he appreciated our compliance. The tour also gives you a fantastic bearing for the city if you want to return later on to further explore the dazzling sights! The Royal Gardens were the highlight for me and after the tour we ate Gelato under a shady tree in Kensignton Park. Life couldn't be more perfect. London is FUN and the best way is to see it by bicycle! The tour was certainly one of the best things I've done in England.

My husband and I actually did the Classic London Walking Tour with Fat Tire Bike Tours. To our surprise, we were the only ones taking the tour that day. Yay for a private tour! Our guide David was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. He's one of those guys that you'd definitely want to be friends with. He mixed in some fun facts with all the historical stuff. We got to see the Tower of London, Shakespeare's Globe Theater, Tower Bridge and much more. We ended the tour with a Fish & Chips dinner at a small restaurant that was a bit off the touristy path. I would highly recommend taking this tour. Well worth the money.

I can't say enough great things about this outfit. I've done the Fat Tire Bike Tours in Barcelona and Paris and was eagerly waiting for the London tours. We participated in the river Thames at night and the royal London tours. Both are stellar and neither one overlap each other. Jamie and Rhodie were fantastic tour guides and really enjoy what they do. This is a family affair-most of the employees are related and you can tell they really want their business to thrive. For £20-30, its the best deal in all of London.

I went on this tour last week and had an awesome time!! Our tour guide, Max, did a great job. The tour lasts about 4 hours, and has one 30 minute stop for lunch. They do a good job of splitting the tours up into small groups so no one gets lost. The tour mostly runs through the royal gardens on bike paths, so you don't have to be a professional biker or anything. You also go pretty slow, so it is good for kids. The best part about the tour is that it is very informative! Max added some great information about all of our stops that you wouldn't hear anywhere else!!

A bit boring and too many people on the street to bike comfortably. Would probably find another way to spend 4 hours...

And you can't beat the price. £1 for 24 hours, though you can only use the bike for 30 minutes at a time with 15 minutes in between. Great for seeing parts of the city you wouldn't otherwise see. And for someone like me, who tends to get a tad lost, you get to see even MORE of the city. I picked up one bike near Hyde Park Corner and rode it to South Kensington. Then a second from South Ken to Sloane Square. And a third from Sloane Square to Victoria. The downsides: - You must have a "chip & pin" card to rent. American "swipe & sign" cards are not accepted. - It's quite frustrating when you do finally manage to find a cycle rack to return your cycle and all the slots are full. While you can add another 15 minutes of riding time for free, you're not where you want to be. - The three bikes I've rented had an annoying tendency of shifting gears at the most inopportune times. I nearly banged my chin with my knee when it slipped one time. Also, the bell didn't work on any. - The fenders are great, but you will still want to lift your feet when you go through a puddle. The upsides: - Price! - Convenience! - Health! - Very easy to operate. Slide the seat to the right level and off you go. Would I rent again? Yeah, I think so. Tips: - You really should get a bike helmet. No, they're not stylish. But then, a fractured skull won't win you Project Runway. - Set a count down timer on your phone for 20 minutes so that you know when it's time to start looking for a cycle rack. It would be really great if there was a decent iPhone app for this!

Boris's bikes have got to be one of the best things to happen to London in a long time…read more On a Friday I went on an adventure at lunch. I picked up a bike at the back of Smithfield Market and rode it to Covent Garden. The journey was quicker that it would have been on foot and far more pleasant then taking the Tube. On a Saturday I borrowed a bike on Clerkenwell Road and rode it to Spitalfields. On a Sunday I hired another and went to St Paul's and over to the Southbank. All of these are journeys I otherwise would not have taken, or at the very least would not have been nearly as enjoyable as they were on a bike. I find myself now waking up at the weekend thinking about where I'm gonna ride. With more than 300 hire points located throughout central London and 5,000 bikes in total, I have high hopes that it will help London become a kinder, gentler place. The bikes feel a bit better than the Paris Vélib' and the front basket with its elastic cord held my purse snugly. They're still ironing out the wrinkles in the scheme but with the exception of one small snag, I've ridden these bikes at least ten times without incident and enjoyed the experience tremendously.
