One of my favourite things to do on a summery Saturday morning, is to pack up the kids and head to the Red Deer Farmer's Market. We find our place to park and make a bee line for some mini donuts for the little squirt and a sausage in a bun for me. Then we take a seat on the steps of the ice rink, listen to the pan flute and watch the crowd. The Red Deer Farmer's Market, is large, it is filled with a variety of vendors, from food to pottery, to jewelry, clothes, fruit and tons of buskers ready to entertain the masses. Going there is like a ritual for the locals as demonstrated by the large crowds it attracts. I love the atmosphere. As much as I love the market, I have to admit, I loathe the parking. Even with this negative, it doesn't detract me from loving it entirely. read more

I was lucky enough to sneak by here while we were setting up for Gran's 90th birthday party at a nearby lodge. I was also lucky that we parked at said lodge (which was blocked off to the public) as parking for others was indeed a nightmare. This market is huge! I ran over there in search of a cold beverage and came back with a delicious egg and bacon sandwich. I only had 15 minutes to run over there before I would get caught so I only saw 1/4 of what they had to offer and boy did it look fun. Amazing fruits and veggies, food vendors galore, homemade wares and entertainment. One could easily spend hours poking around and eating. The egg and bacon sandwich was on an incredibly fresh roll and had a generous amount of thick cut bacon on it. Thankfully the line moved quickly as the cooks operated as a well oiled machine - this was a popular stand and offered many different varieties of breakfast - you could get the traditional or back bacon for $7.50 CAD. Drinks were $3.00 CAD so I didn't have enough for both - bacon always wins! read more

The start of Spring in Red Deer is the Farmers Mkt- all the smells of breakfast, sausage, mixes with all the fresh vegetables on hand.. people mingling up and down with each open section between the booths, there are clothes, jewelry, fresh bread and everyone knows that this is the Saturday all of us have been looking forward to..
