The fact that JP Davies is…read morean independently owned chemist coupled with the fact that it's in West End's hub of Boundary Street make it a really lovely chemist to visit when you're feeling sick and want to be served promptly by helpful, friendly staff. Boundary street in West End has a very neighbourhood villlage atmosphere, and JP Davies has been around since 1885 so its customers are loyal and JP Davies returns the favour by being reasonably priced, and full of pharmacists and sales assistants who seem to genuinely want to help you. They don't just help you with your purchase or putting your script in, they're also happy to assist you if you have any questions about what medications might be best for your symptoms or if you're after any other advice. They'll even check your blood pressure for you. JP Davies sells a nice range of cosmetics along with their healthcare range and you can get Natio, Revlon, and other brands there at a pretty good price. They often have specials as well. I like to support the few remaining independent chemists and I know that whenever I go into JP Davies I'll be well looked after whether I need over the counter medication, a script filled, or just some sympathy and advice.

I was thrilled to discover a certain brand of coconut shampoo and conditioner here that I've never seen in Australia before. They do have a great range of stuff and plenty of it was on sale while I was there. I'm not sure how often that happens, but if it's a common occurrence then I will definitely be returning to this place. As soon as I finish the shampoo I'm working on now.

You know how sometimes you get sick in the middle of the night but it's not life threatening so you'll get triaged to the bottom of the emergency pile. If you're lucky, sometimes the pharmacy will have the medication you need allowing you to bypass emergency. This is why I appreciate Malouf pharmacy in Mt Gravatt so much. After Terry White at Coorparoo, this is probably the latest opening pharmacy on the south side of Brisbane. It shuts at 9:30pm six nights out of seven and opens public holidays. There's also a bulk billing doctor surgery next door and a QML pathology in the same shopping complex. It usually has decent gift lines but honestly, where there's such a hardworking health team, not having a make-up counter or cheap perfumes isn't a deal breaker.

This is a nice quiet pharmacy, unlike some of the busier ones you find in shopping centres. The best part about this is that it allows the staff to really discuss your medication and what is best for you. You get given the time of day here. They make sure you know what you are taking, the side effects to watch out for. They ask about your general health and I always feel very confident when I leave. The pharmacy itslef has only a small selection of other goods (such as shampoo etc) compared to others but the service with prescriptions is extremely good.

What I think makes this chemist stand out from the crowd of many chemists is the fact that every Wednesday there is a Baby Nurse there. She is a lovely hippy trippy lady who used to be a midwife, and does free consultations for your baby provided you book in advance! How cool is that. She even gives your baby a bit of a special massage after to relax bubba for the car trip home. She weights your baby, measures head circumference... examines baby for ailments and answers any questions you might have if you are a clueless new mother like I was and sometimes, still am! She is a big fan of natural therapy and you don't have to follow her advice 100%, but how good is it to have a free service like this one? It's awesome.

You can enter…read morethis chemist via two doors on the outside, one closest to the carpark and one near the entrance to Coles, or you can enter this chemist via the Jindalee Care Medical Practice as it is connected. The prescriptions counter is conveniently located near the Medical Practice so as soon as I'm done with my appointment, I go straight there to pick up my prescriptions. The Pharmacists there are very nice. I have had queries to do with different brands of medicine and they were quick to answer with helpful information. They are discreet so if you have any questions which you feel are quite personal, they handle the queries with the upmost professionalism. I like this chemist for their professional and friendly nature, the great stock they have and the convenience of being next to my local GP.

Full of the usual chemist ware, this place has everything from exfoliating gloves and band-aids to prescriptions and cough lollies. Once you get inside and can't see the fancy, old fashioned sign that differs greatly from the glaring, distasteful ones often decorating chemist doorways, you would think you were in any other pharmacy. Bath and body products, make up, medicine and all those fun things you find in a chemist inhabit the shelves here as well. There's nothing too exciting about this place, apart from the more neighbourly customer service that often comes with an independently run place.

As well as being saving graces for allowing you to purchase cold & flu tablets with the good stuff, there's cosmetics, handy travel size products, vitamins, and all other kind of chemist-y things lining the shelves. Having popped in on several occasions from needing something to hit a flu on the head, filling scripts or an ointment to clear up a severe reaction to a face cream - the staff at the Brookside Terry White Chemist are generally cheerful and eager to help (yes you'd think this is a given but one should never assume those in retail are willing to help!).

Indeed you can spend quite a lot of time here waiting for your script just looking at the goods on display (there's aisles and aisles of stuff). For me, I like to check out the make-up, hair accessories and jewellery - and there's an ample supply of that here. People waiting for scripts can also pass time by browsing through Brookside Shopping Centre, the home of this Terry White Chemist. Generally I haven't had to wait on scripts for too long here, however, despite the fact that it seems to be always bustling with customers. However there are enough pharmacists and stuff employed at the chemist to make sure that everyone pretty much has their needs served to as soon as they approach the counter. It's a well-oiled machine, and you can tell. I also found the staff here to be very friendly in a genuine way. (The sort of people that foreigners appreciate and return home saying, "Australians are so NICE. Even the people working in shops are nice to you.") This level of high respect and friendliness is at odds with some of Brisbane's pharmacies where you feel like you're getting the third degree for asking to purchase nasal decongestant or cold and flu tablets. I understand that pharmacists can ask these questions, but there's asking and then there's the third-degree. All in all this is quite a gem of a pharmacy, including a wide range of household staples such as dental care products (I love my White Glo toothbrush and toothpaste pack) at prices below the chemist average.
