Our fireplace opening was not standard size so we had to do custom ordering. Francois came to our house with his iPad loaded with all different options and looks for fireplace doors. He made the measurements and explained how it will be installed. The doors at Home Depot and Lowes require drilling but the ones from Red Hot are tension mount ones. Drilling is not recommended if you have a real firewood burning fireplace and you plan on using it quite often. Margot took care of the paperwork and everything was done electronically which is great because I hate how you get piles and piles of paperwork and they just get lost in the pile. It is also more green :) I just think that it's the right way to run a business because we're in the 21st century. Let's get rid of paper when possible! We ordered the door right before Thanksgiving. The door arrived two days before Christmas and Francois's team came to our house to install it the day before Christmas so we can use our fireplace! The installation crew was extremely courteous and the installation took only a little over an hour. They also kept everything very clean so we didn't have to do a big sweep after they left. Also, most places in the Orange County area require a deposit before they come out to measure your fireplace which I thought was ridiculous. Red Hot did not require a deposit and their service and knowledge was way more superior to the other nearby fireplace stores. read more

We first met Frank when he checked and repaired a fireplace we had in our rental, he was so meticulous, hard working and efficient we decided to ask him to solve a problem with our fireplace at our home. Our fireplace needed to be replaced, the chimney had rusted out but we did not want to disturb the brick facing and the mantle. Frank said he could go in through the outside wall and replace the entire unit that way! Which is exactly what he did!! Once the old fireplace was removed and the new one installed Frank had the wall repaired good as new!! What an amazing service run by Red Hot Hearth and Home. I own a home built in 1946 with the original masonry and there was a rusted over damper that is completely jammed open and I figured it needed to be replaced. Frank was very nice over the phone at 8:30 in the morning (returning my phone call from after hours the night before) and without upselling gave me my options. I could repair the damper or install a chain pulled top damper that would ensure no air flow came through my chimney. This was the initial issue since it was FREEZING in the winter in our living room and face of the sun hot in the summer. Jason came out at 2:30 as promised and let me know my options. He also advised that I should probably redo my entire 67 year old chimney but it wasn't necessary that day and could be done later. Jason was done in about 45 minutes and the pricing was very fair. I had a handyman come out and he couldn't determine the problem, thinking possible thermocouple, etc. Francoise pin-pointed the issue immediately - no parts needed, just good ol' fashion expertise and fixed it in 30 minutes. What I like best is that if there was a major issue, he could've tackled that too. I have no doubt that the staff and owners know their stuff, however when I received a emailed quote from Frank ( the owner) for a competitive gas fireplace, he would not "Meet or Beat Any Competitors Price" as is clearly written on the quote bid sheet they will give you. The difference for in price was only $115.00 and since the item I was purchasing was a commodity, I was absolutely looking for the most aggressive price. When I called Frank he flat-out refused to honor the lower price although it was clearly written on his bid-sheet. That was it for me. I purchased my unit, supplies and hired the installation contractor from the competitor in Culver City, called Armands. They were more than willing to work with us. Hard to find good help when it comes to fireplace repair - but YELP props to Francois! I tried to fix my failed electric siwtch gas igniter on my gas fireplace, and bought the suspect replacement part on EBAY, installed it, but then it still did not work. I called out Francois who quickly assessed the situation, and verified that my fix was correct, but the part from EBAY was non-functional. It was supposed to be new - but it was a defect. Anyhow, Francois had the right part with him, and was able to make the repair. He gave me a fair price - especially since I was hoodwinked by the EBAY part seller. I called to have an estimate done for remodeling our fireplace. We had received an estimate from them previously, but extenuating circumstances caused us not to proceed at that time. I was ready to sign a new contract - the old one was for over $5000 by the way, not a small job - but needed an updated estimate. I was referred to Red Hot Hearth and Home from 'Angies List'. As a first time customer I didn't know what to expect. I couldn't be happier with my decision! I spoke with Frank (the owner) about installing a new direct vent fireplace in our home. Frank gave us great ideas about the fireplace choices and installing a stone face around the fireplace and adding a beautiful mantle. The finished product was simply amazing. We settled on a Valor Horizon fireplace and Frank did the mantle and stone work. I don't even have to put the heater on as the fireplace sufficiently keeps my living room and hall nice and warm. The fireplace has a thermostat to keep the temperature constant and the flames can be adjusted with the remote control (free remote). Frank worked well within my budget and had some cost saving suggestions. My neighbor saw my fireplace and immediately called Frank and got a chimney sweep and bought a direct vent insert fireplace that fit perfectly inside his old fireplace. We called for a sweep and Hood. Installer came and was continually looking at his watch, telling us our sweep was taking him too long, making him late for his next customer. He would not climb the ladder to measure the hood as it said it was too high???. When I called the owner Frank, he immediately got onthe phone with a defensive anttitude and said " ok, lets hear your side cause I already talked to my guy". Frank told us his guy rarely has complaints, didnt apoligize at all and stated he stands by his employee. The installer was nice, but Frank was rude and unprofessional. We ordered a fireplace insert from Red Hot after visiting their showroom and discussing it with Frank. They made sure that it was delivered before Christmas last year. Then, after a year, we had a minor problem. They came out to the house and fixed it for free. Then my wife wanted the logs re-arranged to match the original setup. I worked with Frank, Francois, Jason and Margot at Red Hot and was pleased with all they did for us! These guys are experts and can do anything related to your fireplace! We initially had them clean out our fireplace and add a chimney cap. Then we had them create a custom fireplace mantel made out of distressed wood. Francois came over on time and as planned, helping to pick out the stain and style. His team installed the mantel quickly and most importantly, cleanly and with no damages to our walls. I was super impressed. During the process they found that there was combustible material around the box that needed to be fixed. Even though I was sad to find out we'd have to redo the stone work, Francois and the Red Hot team made it much easier than I expected. I would use them again in a heart beat. They give you a quote and then stand by it without any later add-ons. The second install was just as quick and clean. I think the most important thing is that with Red Hot's help now, we know our fireplace is up to speed and we are ready for some great cozy fires in our living room. Mike and Frank were very friendly and anxious to help until after they cashed my check. I was having my contractor install my purchased unit, however not all the pieces were there. After they checked their inventory they realized that I did have parts missing. So I had to drive 30 miles each way to pick up my missing pieces. In addition, the remote that I purchased for an additional price wan't any good, so they ordered me a new one. However when it came in they charged me "home call" to bring the remote and check the unit. They told me the unit was not put in correctly, turned off all gas and said they would get back with another estimate to reinstall, but the home call would go towards the price. This was in July! Since that time I have called and left messages at least 3 times and even spoke to Mike again personally. I explained that my contractor had been ill and passed away and that I could not use the unit until someone comes out and checks it. He assured me that he would talk to Frank and get back. Well, it's been another month and nothing. Finally I went to another dealer. They came out within a few days and said the unit was satisfactory, but the remote that Mike had brought was no good, so once again I had to replace it. I usually do not write negative reviews, but I think they could have been more accommodating and professional with each situation I encountered.
